As this evening the undefeated bullpups at 3 and O on the season get ready to take on the Ferris Saxons who come in with a record of 1 and 3. Larry Ware back in the saddle along with Paul Sorensen this week. Thanks to Greg Talbot last week for filling in with Paul as you two watched me defeat Ferris by the score of 26 to nothing. Now the Saxons get to take on the top team in the GSL in Gonzaga Prep. And due to the vagaries of the schedule, Ferris.

Ferris playing here at Gonzaga Prep is actually the home team tonight because remember, the GSL lost their home field advantage when Albi, you know, went under reconstruction. Slash relocation depending on what happens, you know, with with the Albie presently in terms of the situation where they're at or the downtown potential stadium, depending on what happens to the Spokane public schools. But make a long story short, last week was a little bit of a surprise, you know, for Ferris. They came out Mead ran a new offense. They came out kind of surprised him a little bit.

A lot of wildcat, a lot of motion, you know, just doing a lot of different things and, and really, you know, kind of sprinted out to a quick lead. They were up to 16 to nothing the first eight minutes of the game. And, and then I think Ferris got some composure as well and kind of slowed some things down. But still, that was a tough night. 26 Nothing was the final score.

You know, in that game, Mead looked really good. Ferris was kind of a little bit out of their sink initially and then, then kind of rallied. And I expect them to be a little bit more seasoned. They've got good athletes on this team and they could present some problems at Gonzaga Prep tonight. And so when you look at this ferris team, they're 1 and 3 in the last two games, they've scored one touchdown combined. And so tonight we're going to see a change at quarterback. You really are. A. J.

newcomb is going to come in and replace Preston Page. That young man's a transfer. Page was from Oregon City and, you know, showed some pretty good stuff, but he turned the ball over too much. He had some open receivers that, that he didn't connect with. You know, he was able to kind of get the first couple of games in under his belt.

But Tom, year out and staff are shaking some things up. They need to score some points and they want to see if they can get a spark. They're going to bring a new quarterback in and see if that makes a difference. They have a tall group of wide receivers here to work with Ferris between Jide Olajoyabi, Anthony Aguirre, Dan Crumley, Alec Roland, Kobe Smith, these guys are all 6 3, 6, 4, 6 5. So throw it up and let them go make a play.

Well, that's just it. You know, they had chances to do that and the ball is either under thrown or thrown to the wrong side or. It just didn't seem like they were in sync last week. They were, you know, either the receiver ran the wrong route, broke off the route. Quarterback didn't put it, you know, where you're supposed to put it.

You could just tell it was a timing issue. And that has a lot to do with the fact that they hadn't played football in 15 months. You didn't have all the, you know, the accoutrements of summer, you know, the winter conditioning, you know, the fall that they normally play at. So, you know, this is an offense and it takes some time for an offense to get some rhythm. And I think you're going to see Ferris offense get better and better as the season goes on, but they're running out of season so they better get going fast.

Now you go to Gonzaga Prep, that's an offense that knows what they're doing and they're one of the best in not only the city but in the state. Well, and a completely different they can throw it, but they would rather run it. And they've got a bunch of good running backs and a quarterback that makes it all go. Oh, they really do. Ryan McKenna 1 what I like about him, the coach's son, he is by far the best quarterback on this team and in the league right now.

And 6 foot 180 pounder, but he's also a hockey player tougher than heck, you know, and has a chance to play college hockey if he wants. So you're going to get some leadership from that young man. And they've got Ortega, who's just a big, strong, real deal tough running back and also Christian Hilborn, another young man that, that plays well. Collier is another guy that can come in and give them some, you know, some good minutes as well. But they can run the ball and then what happens?

Defenses creep up and try to stop the run. You've got to stop that a gap and you know, all the way out. And if you don't, they're going to have a big play. And that's the thing that makes they get that defense to suck in. Then they fake the run, they throw the ball downfield for a big play.

It's a breezy night here in Gonzaga Prep. So what will that do with the Ferris passing attack? We will have to wait and see. It will not affect the triple option one little bit. Here's what is ongoing tonight. First off in the 3A 4A ranks, Central Valley will play at Lewis and Clark and Cheney will play at Mead. Mount Spokane vs U High was canceled because of COVID protocol today 2A shadow park Pullman canceled because of COVID protocol. North Central is at Othello. Rogers hosts East Valley.

Clarkston is at West Valley Tonight in the 3A 4A standings, Gonzaga Prep the only undefeated team. They're at 3 0. Central Valley and Mount Spokane are both 3 and 1. Cheney and Mead are both 2 and 2. Ferris and Lewis and Clark are both 1 and 3 and University's at 03 on the 2A standings.

West Valley and Shadow park are both 3 and oh, Pullman, Othello, North Central and Clarkston are all at 2 and 2. East Valley's at 1 and 3 and Rogers is at 0 4. So that North Central Othello game will be big tonight. The Clarkston West Valley game is big tonight as well. And those are really probably the games of the night in the 2A race.

Volleyball Mount Spokane won the unofficial GSL championship. Now, the GSL is not recognizing champions this year, but when they do, they're all going to get some wonderful T shirts. Actually, they're still going to get wonderful T shirts. Oh, they are going to get the wonderful T shirts anyway. They're still going to honor all of the 3A, 4A, 2A levels.

That's KC Enterprises that does that. And that's kind of new this year. So everybody that wins a championship, whether it's official or not official for this year, this spring, will have that opportunity, which is kind of cool. And they're a new sponsor coming in. On the two way side of things, Pullman was 10 and oh this year, Shadow Park West Valley 6 and 3, Clarkston 6 and 4, North Central 6 and 5. Othello 4 and 8, East Valley 2 and 10. And Rogers was oh and 10. Girls soccer Gonzaga Prep 6 and 2 CB. So volleyballs over in Denwood.

They're still playing? Yep. Soccer. So on the 4A 3A side, Prep and Central Valley are both 6 and 2. Mead and Mount Spokane are both 5 and 3.

Lewis and Clark's at 4 and 3. Cheney 3 and 4. Ferris 1 and 7, U High 1 and 7. Leading into Monday schedule, a big Mitt game. Mount Spokane at Central Valley.

Cheney is at Lewis and Clark. Ferris visits Gonzaga Prep. Mead is at U high on the 2A side. Shadow and West Valley are both 7 and 1, North Central 6 and 2, Clarkston 5 and 3, then Pullman, East Valley, Othello and Rogers round out the second half of the 2A rankings. And then on Tuesday is the 2A soccer it's West Valley at Clarkston.

That'll be a big match. Shadow park at East Valley, Othello visits North Central and it will be Rodgers at Pullman. We're at Gonzaga Prep High School getting ready for Ferris against Gonzaga Prep this evening. It's time for Paul's Keys to the Game and they are presented by Children's Choice Pediatric Pediatric Dentistry. Yes, they are.

And let's start with Gonzaga Prep, the visiting team here at Gonzaga Prep tonight, which is always interesting because of the way the schedule shaped up and home fields being worked on under construction for prep. Ryan McKenna, the offense runs through him, the junior, the young man at 6 foot 180 pounds can run the football, he can throw it, he's tough, he's very smart. He's also a great leader. And I think the keys for Gonzaga Prep is to control the line of scrimmage on both sides of the the ball. They're going to go up against a very large Ferris offensive line and defensive front, so they're going to have to be able to manage that.

But once they get going and if Ferris is not able to stop the A gap, I will say one thing. Malik Robertson, who is the defensive coordinator for Ferris, has done a great job the last couple years when they faced this prep team in terms of stopping that attack up the middle, making them go wide and kind of taking Prep out of their game plan. Prep needs to be able to control the line of scrimmage, control the tempo, not turn the football over, control the clock, which you can do when you run the football. Make this a short game. And when they get their, you know, their chances, take their shots for Ferris.

They cannot turn the ball over and they can't make bonehead penalties which happened last week against Mead in that 26 to nothing loss. They've got to be able to hang on to the football, maybe steal a couple possessions from Gonzaga Prep, get a fumble or pick something along those lines, get a big play in special team, something they can rally. And then also they've got a coaching staff that's done a great job. Tom, you're out. And a couple of his assistant coaches were on that Lewis and Clark team that won a state title.

So he knows what it takes to get to State. Well, so does Gonzaga Prep. They've won a gaggle of state championships over the year and I think Coach McKenna has done a great job assembling a really good staff. This is going to be a tough game, but it's going to be a game where you cannot turn the ball over. Can't make too many penalties.

If you do, you're going to lose. Alrighty. There is Paul's keys to the game for you this evening. Both teams out on the field warming up prior to the start of this game. Ferris will be in their gray uniforms and Gonzaga Prep will be in the white here this evening playing on their home field, but they will be the visiting team.

com Paul A very experienced prep offense with nine seniors, but their defense is a very young bunch and they've been very good this year. They really have. And this junior class, Larry is very, very strong. They've got some athletes in here. They're going to get a looks.

Ephraim Watkins, the nose tackle is really good. He's only a junior. Kaz Meltzer is coming back. He tore his ACL in the offseason and this is his first game back and he's a guy that at 6 4, 240 pounds can really do some good stuff. They just have guys up and down.

They only have three seniors on this defensive team. The rest are juniors and sprinkle in a couple of sophomores and McKiernan and Luke Miller as well. This is a very good defense. H. T.

higgins has been one of the best defensive coordinators in this region for many, many years and he continues to turn out excellent defenses, making it tough for GSL offenses to get on track. Six juniors, two sophomores, three seniors on this prep defense. They've allowed eight points a game so far this season. So this is a very good Gonzaga prep defense and a very young Gonzaga prep defense. This portion of our pregame show brought to you by Dr.

And on the other end of things, what you you'd almost think that what Ferris wants to do is grind the ball with this huge offensive line, but that's not how they've been doing it this year. No they haven't. They want to make big plays and they try to throw the ball downfield. They have you know, a nice route tree that they can, they can run.

They've got big tall receivers. It's just been getting time for the quarterback. He's not had time to throw the ball. At least that's what happened last week against Meade and you're going up against of defense and prep that's even better. So I think the quick passing attack, screens, draws, take a couple of shots downfield to try to back them up and hurt them.

Just a little sliver of sunlight left here at the Gonzaga Prep football field here this evening as we're getting ready for action as Farris takes on Gonzaga Gonzaga Prep in the Arby's GSL Game of the Week along with Paul Sorensen and producer engineer Steve Pry.

I'm Larry Weir. Getting ready to kick off. Gonzaga Prep will handle that. They will move from the west to the east here which would be to the from the right to the left. As we look at it, Ferris will return the game's opening kickoff.

They will have Cruz Wheeler back deep to receive for that and they also have back there with him Anthony Aguirre and ready to put the ball on the tee for Gonzaga Prep is Evan Duchaine and we're getting set for football. And the game's opening tip off is presented by Papa Murphy's. Tell you what a great view here, Larry. Kind of looking out, you see the sun setting, but you have a nice view. Kind of looking back into Spokane up on the south hill.

Beautiful location here and fans in the stands, which is absolutely awesome to see. Congratulations. Ball on the tee at the 40 yard line. Here's the boot downfield and running away tonight. Nice hand over end kick.

With a win behind it. It's aguiar from the 5 yard line running to his at the 10, trying to get outside at the 15 and will be stopped, it looks like short of the 15 yard line by the Gonzaga prep return kick return team. And so Farris is going to start out deep in their own end inside the 15 yard line. Special teams has always been an emphasis at Gonzaga Prep. They want to win all three aspects, offense, defense and special teams.

Great job of staying in their lanes. Aguirre went sideline to sideline. You got to take that ball, plant that foot, get up field, go straight. You're not going to outrun this team because they're so disciplined in their coverage. Ferris from their own 14 yard line, Ball on the left hash mark.

They have olajoy Agbe, the one wide receiver split out to the right side. One man wide to the left as well. Here the quarterback Newcomb will hand it off and not much there in the middle. Probably a loss of yardage there for the running back. That was Cruz Wheeler and I don't think he got back to the line of scrimmage.

He didn't. Cruz Wheeler's already had a hundred yard game a couple weeks ago and I think he had about 90 yards rushing last week. Did a nice job of running the ball, but he toted it about 22 times. And that's one thing prep is good at, is defending the run. They see it in practice every single day.

You've got to be creative, A little play action, quick passing attacks, try to get outside, you know, and play a little one on one with his prep defense. Loss of a yard, second and 11. Now ball on the left hash at the 13 yard line. Out of the pistol formation. The quarterback will fire it out to the right side on a little slant, has a catch.

That is a guire. He will get out over the 20 yard line to about the 23. That'll be a gain of about 10 yards, but it looks like they'll be a Little short of a first down. That was just a nice slant. A little, little zone coverage out there.

They're just playing a little cover three. The, the strong safety went to the flat corner, was over the top safety came over, but he was able to fit that ball in there. The lefty. That's usually a tough throw, throwing from his left side to the right side. It's a lot easier to throw left to left.

But he's, he feathered that ball in there nicely and that's the confidence that he'll need to have a good game. That's Newcomb. So third down and a yard for Ferris. They will have two wide receivers and two tight ends. One receiver split to either side.

And again the pistol formation in there. Gonzaga Prep with three players down on the line. Here's the handoff. And Wheeler will be denied the first down. He was stuffed by that Gonzaga Prep defensive front.

Kaz Melzer was there. Also in there on the stop that time for Gonzaga Prep was Luciano Reynolds, I believe. And so it'll be fourth down. Well, then Prep is doing exactly what they want. They're getting a three and out.

They're going to get the punt the ball and get the football back. And this might be a situation where, you know, Ferris, that was tough, just ran right up the middle, but really no place to run. That front four is very stout. Luciano Reynolds back deep to receive, standing at his own 44 yard line and backing up a bit as Ferris gets ready to punt it away. And the snap back and they'll boot it away.

And it's a short kick off the side of the foot that's going to go out of bounds somewhere in the neighborhood of the 35 yard line. So that's only going to be about a 10 or 11 yard punt there. And Gonzaga Prep is going to get outstanding field position. Where are they going to put this? I don't think it broke the 40.

Well, I didn't think it broke the 35, but they're gonna put it at the 40 yard line, so they'll get a little break there. Well, that's that similar situation last week against me. The center snapped the ball over the punter's head, ended up going in the end zone, getting a safety there. And so a little bit of the yips I think right now for the special teams for Ferris Backlin the punter. And so Prep has it at the Ferris 40 to start their possession here.

And they hand it off to Ortega, bounces outside on the left side and is tripped up on a nice Tackle by Mason Backland and a flag is down. A couple of them actually as that run gets to the 37 for three yards. But in likelihood it's going to come back well. And I also thought that Ferris jumped off into the neutral zone, but maybe didn't go far enough to break the plane. But I think they're going to move that back.

Ortega is one of the better athletes. At 6:1, 215 pounds, a senior, really good football player, has a chance to play at the next level physically. He's just got to be able to, you know, have that good season. And that's the thing that's great. Even though they're only playing seven games, Larry, they're at least getting seven games in where you get a chance to finish off your senior year playing.

Eight yard penalty from the line of scrimmage. The ball marked off in the spot of the foul. So it's first and 18 now for the bullpups at the Ferris 48. Again the wings and now the option to the right side. McKenna will keep it and get down to the 45, maybe to the 44 yard line.

We'll see where they put him down. Gain of the four yards down to the 44 that time. For prep, the defensive coordinator, Malik Roberson that time brought an all out blitz. He had both his linebackers on the inside and outside backers break through there. So if McKenna is able to break that initial surge, there's not going to be many guys layered over the top to stop him.

Second down and 14 at the Ferris 44. Ball near the center of the field. Shotgun formation now, motion coming from the right side and the quarterback will keep it. McKenna off the right and he gets to about the 42 and then is run back from there by the Ferris defense. Nice job by that Ferris crew out there.

It looked like it was Darian Riley leading the charge that time from his linebacker spot. Well, right now prep is kind of playing behind the sticks. When they had that holding penalty that moved it back eight yards, that's not what they wanted to do. They had a positive five or six yard gain, you know, on that first down and that's what they want to have. But they've been playing behind it with nothing.

Be surprised to see them try to throw the football here, maybe a little play action, pass and try to hit a slant or maybe a sluggo, a slant and go third and eleven now for Gonzaga prep at the Ferris 41. Out of the pistol. McKenna fakes the handoff. He does want to throw on the right Side of the sidelines, leaping try through the hands of the intended receiver. I think it was Duchene.

It was. And the pass incomplete. And over there on the coverage for Farris looked like it was Jacob Tanani. Yeah, Tanani's probably their best cover guy. You mentioned the two interceptions.

He had won a touchdown. He had a couple of pass breakups last week against Mead, I thought did a really good job, you know, on pass coverage. He also had an interception in that game as well. So fourth down and 11 and they're going to punt it away here. Good stop.

Good surge by the Ferris defense to keep prep from getting that first down. So Deshain will punt and standing back inside his 10 yard line to receive. This is Ola Joy Egby, I believe. Here's the boot downfield. This is going to bounce back inside the 10, inside the five.

Do they save it from going over the end line or not? I believe they did. And it'll be Ferris ball down at the one yard line. And so a great punt that time and great coverage by Gonzaga Prep's kick guys to get back there and keep that from going into the end zone as we have 737 remaining. First quarter in a scoreless game.

They have really nowhere to go backward if they can't make a yard here that any tackle for loss will be a for a safety here. Pistol formation. Newcomb the quarterback and he's under pressure. He will roll out and just barely gets across the goal line. He was trying to pass but there was nobody open and there were all over him.

And so he just able to tuck it and run over the right side and he barely got across the goal line. 2nd and 10. Ola Joy Eggby was open. He ran a little curl route down about 12 yards but. But unfortunately the quarterbacks running for his life didn't see him.

He dropped his head down. Good quarterbacks keep that head up. Keep looking downfield. He had an open receiver down about the 12 yard line. Just couldn't get him.

The ball couldn't see him. So second and ten now for Ferris with the ball at their own. It's inside their own one yard line and they've got one wide receiver Split to either side here and the quarterback again in the pistol. The running back Wheeler behind him. Newcomb calls the signals, wants to throw lefty, fires it out on the left side, leaping try through the hands of Ola Joy Egby.

And so it'll be third down and 10 for Ferris. And that was not a bad throw. It was right there. Just kind of a little bit high there, but still a good job. One step got rid of the football, kind of eliminated that, that pass rush.

Huge third down here, not only from a standpoint of having to kick because you're gonna have really limited room to kick the football. And they're kind of squidgy a little bit on special teams after what happened last week. So I think this is really crucial to get some positive yards to at least punt the ball. Give yourself a chance. So 3rd and 10.

Olajoy Egby is split to the right side. Aguirre is wide to the left. Again, two tight ends in the game and Newcomb operating out of the pistol formation and he will hand it off this time it's a Wheeler and he'll get some positive yards out across the five and stop short of the first down as he gets to about the seven or eight yard line.

So he's going to gain six, maybe seven yards on the play and will bring up fourth down and about three or four as Devin McKiernan was there to make the stop. Ferris needs to be careful on this snap. The punter, if he goes down to a knee and he touches that knee in the end zone, that's an automatic safety. And last snap was low. The punter had to go down and try to try to recover that thing.

So the snap and the kick is going to be crucial here. So on fourth down from the eight yard line, fourth down and three, Backland, a little rugby punt. This time it's a kick down field. It'll be fielded at the 40 yard line and getting a block, getting inside the 30. Down inside the 25 yard line is Luciano Reynolds.

And Gonzaga prep will have pretty good field position here. After a punt of about 32 yards, a return takes it down to the 25 it looks like. And that's where prep will have it. Nice job by Reynolds that time, Larry, because it was kind of a low kick but he had a chance to go right and I think they set up the return kind of middle and he just along the Ferris sidelines broke a tackle, Got some really good positive yards.

Great field position for the bullpups. Right now we are down to 556 remaining. First quarter of play bullpups with it at the Ferris 25. And they fake. No, they do hand it off.

Ortega dives in over the right tackle and gets maybe 2 yards on the play and that's about it. Ferris has been very stout defensively so far and that's why Malik Robertson's done a nice job with this scheme and that those 2D tackles are doing a nice job of playing the A gap and forcing everything to the outside. That allows your pursuit to kind of run downhill and make plays. That's what Prep wants. They want to be able to hit that A gap quickly.

On second down and eight at the Ferris 23, they hand it to Ortega this time off the left side between the left guard and tackle. And he might have gotten to the 20 yard line. DePaulo was there for Farris, the big 270 pounder at the bottom of the pile. It'll be third down and right now Prep is not moving that defensive front off the ball. So Ferris is doing a nice job, you know, of kind of holding their ground there and building a wall, which is what you want to do against this option attack.

Gain of four. Third and four now at the Ferris 19 from the left hash. They fake the handoff. No, they do give it away. And Ortega, I believe, will fall a first down.

They had him by the ankles. It was Preston Newcomb that had him by the ankles, but Ortega was able to fall forward and that's our first first down of the game. And that was just great individual effort by Ortega. Doing a nice job of showing that power and, and that strength. And that was enough, as you mentioned, probably by the length of the football to get that first and 10 prep at the Ferris 15.

They fake the handoff. Option run right side. McKenna breaks one tackle. DePaulo's got him and help to. He got some help to drag him down as he gets down around the 12 yard line or so.

They'll put him at the 11 for a gain of four. Paulo's doing a nice job. The senior at 270 pounds, plays both ways. Gets a little bit fatigued in the fourth quarter because he has to go on both the offensive defensive side of the ball. But he plays really well when he's going full speed.

Second down and six now at the Ferris 11 yard line. Movement up front as DePaulo flattens the center of the guard one or the other. And that's going to be a five yard penalty on Ferris. Yeah, that was offsides big time and poor center didn't do anything wrong. And he gets ear hole knocked backwards and you know, gets a turf burn.

But his teammates came over, picked him up, brushed him off and sent him back into the huddle. Good job. And the referee was given a talking to to Depaulo after that. That's a no, no. That could have been a 15 yard, could have been a half the distance.

Unsportsman like if they wanted to call it. So a five yard penalty on Ferris and will bring up second and one now for Gonzaga Prep. They run option to left side, pitch it to Ortega, gets to the left corner and rumbles into the end zone for a touchdown. Jayden Ortega takes it in for a six yard rushing touchdown for our first score of the ball game for Ortega. That is rushing touchdown number five here on the young season.

And the Bullpups take a six nothing lead in this ball game with 4:12 remaining. First quarter. That was just a nice job. Well blocked on the left side. Great block by the wide receiver to kind of free up the corner.

Safety got pinned inside. It's just a nice job by Ortega to break the line. So Ortega with the run, Deshain with the point. It is good. We'll take a timeout.

Gonzaga Prep 7 fairest. Nothing better than four minutes left. First quarter. This is the Arby's GSL game of the week on 700 ESPN and 105. 3 FM at Papa Murphy's.

Ortega had four of the five runs for Gonzaga Prep. He had a six yard rushing touchdown and it's seven nothing. Prep with a lead high short kickoff end over end. This will be fielded by one of the up men at the 15. Running laterally from the left to the right is not going to get much across the 15 yard line as Prep has been kicking it away from how the return has been set up.

And both times Ferris has been running laterally and neither time did they get much as far as yardage. Go Aguirre that time and they stop him at about the 17 yard line. So basically Prep is winning the field position battle. They've had two possessions inside of Ferris, you know, 40 yard line. One good defensive stand by the Saxons.

Two excellent offensive series by Gonzaga Prep to get that touchdown by Ortega. So now it's up to Ferris. Can they counter and put something together? First down and 10. Four wide receivers, two to either side here for Ferris, Newcomb, the quarterback, the southpaw, the junior gets the snap and gives it on a fly sweep as they run to the right side.

Getting across the 20 and getting out to about the 22 yard line is the ball carrier Ola G. Ola Eggh Ola Joy Egby. And he gains about six. Well, let's call it five yards, six yards. And that's what you want to do.

You want to stretch this defense from sideline to sideline, make them widen their gaps a little bit and then you might be able to hit, hit some stuff up between the tackles. You might be able to get some short passing attack in here. You've got to spread this defense out. If they stay packed inside, they're going to have their way with this offensive line from, from Ferris ball. It's a 23, we'll call it second down and four out of the pistol formation.

McWide receivers to the side. Holcomb will throw fires to the sidelines and his man fell down. Ola Joy Egby went down at the 30 yard line trying to make his cut and the ball flutters harmlessly out of bounds. It'll be third down. That was a timing play and that was not the quarterback's fault that time.

That was just a slip by the receiver trying to make a speed out there. And that's where you got to come to balance. You watch the good receivers, Larry, when they run their routes, you know, say a Cooper cup as an example in the NFL. He gets those defensive backs to lean, to go one direction they don't want to go. Then he makes that break and that's what, that's what they were trying to do in that particular case.

Ferris looking for their first first down of the ballgame. They have it third and four at their own 23. Aguirre and one other receiver split to the right. Ola Joy Agby and another goes to the left. And they will actually handle a fly sweep to Olajoy Egb run into the left side.

And he will, I think, be short of a first down. We'll see where they mark it. They'll put him near the 27 yard line, so it looks like he'll be a little short of a first down. You know, that's where you've got to know where that, that, that marker is. And he, he kind of danced around there a little bit.

If he had just planted his foot, put his head down and drove up field, he would have got that extra yard. And that's the timing we're talking about right now. But I think he did enough, Larry. Nope, he didn't get over there. He was able to get over there.

And at 6, 3, maybe that makes a difference. You got a short and squatty guy like me, you got to put your head down and blow somebody up. He does it. So a Damon Orthodontics. First down for Ferris, their first of the ball game.

And they just do give him the first down at the 27. I thought it was going to be close. The official on the far side was signaling fourth down, but they all got together, eyeballed it and said, nope, that's good for a first down. And so Ferris has it at their own 27. They have trips now to the right side and one receiver wide to the left.

Again, the pistol formation behind the quarterback. Newcomb, who takes the snap, wants to throw out to the left side, has a catch out across the 30 yard line and getting run back immediately. Is Ola Joy Egby out there and do we have a marker on the field? I hear whistles. They do too.

And they're moving Ferris back. Yep, there was a hanky down on the far sideline over there. So somebody may have lined up in the neutral zone or had happy hands. So a five yard penalty, they'll walk it back to the 22 yard line. Second penalty on Ferris so far, good to 10 yards.

And Larry, those are the kinds of things last week that really hurt them. Against me, a decent play, they'd have a hold. They jump off sides. You had a guy wide open. I mean just those kinds of little mistakes are enough to kind of derail this offense.

Those are the things they have to take out of their playbook right now and play a lot cleaner. Well, they were first. It would have been second and five. Instead it's first and 15 here. Trips to the right, one man wide to the left.

And there's the snap back and a throw on a little screen. And this is a guire. And he will get to about the 25 yard line. So it gets. Get three yards, it looks like, or so on the play.

It'll bring up second down and long. You know, Guy or that time was coming across on the wide side of the field to the inside. It's one of those jailbreak screens where the linemen are sprinting downfield and you're running kind of against the grain. The problem is the defensive line is running with you and you're going to run into a wall of a lot of angry Gonzaga prep defensive linemen, which is what happened there. You want to kind of plant that foot, get up field and not go sideline to sideline.

You want to go vertically, get going that way. Second down and 12 for the Saxons at their own 25. Ball near the right hash mark. They'll have four wide receivers, two to either side. Prep has three players down in the line and a fourth on the line and back to throw it as Holcomb.

He throws deep on the right side and it's overthrown. Incomplete. And Newcomb's intended receiver there was Stanton. Huddleston overthrew him. So it'll be third down.

Well, that's the thing you try to teach a young quarterback. If you're going to make a mistake, make it vertically, downfield. Don't throw it out of bounds. You have no chance. Your receiver can't make a play.

He's running on the numbers. You can make that adjustment to the wide side of the field, but throw it down the numbers and let your wide receiver adjust towards the field, not towards the sideline. We're down to 103 remaining. First quarter, seven nothing. Gonzaga Prep, third down and 12.

It'll be Ferris at their own 25 and they will have an empty backfield with five wide receivers. Newcome alone in the backfield. Prep again now. Four men down in the line and the play of Swiss will dead. I think they probably took too much time here and they had a little quarterback run set up there that looked like it had a little opening there.

It did. But the wide receiver, Oil Jigby, jumped off sides and that's. That's the thing that drives coaches nuts, you know, what the count is, hold your water again. You probably could have had a decent play because you were going to run it up the middle. They were going to maybe, you know, bring a blitz.

And if you can get through that, you've got a great chance to get some positive yards, maybe even a first down. Now, again, you're playing behind the sticks and that's what Ferris cannot do if they want to beat prep. Ball at the 21 yard line. Third down and 16 now for Ferris again. Three receivers go to the left, one to the right.

Holcomb to throw deep down the right side overthrows his man. Looking for OLO Joy Egby. And pretty good coverage there for Gonzaga Prep on the play by Brandon Kelly. And so it'll be fourth down for the Saxons. And Kelly was really smart.

He basically was man to man coverage that time. That ball was about five yards out of bounds when it landed and he just walled the wide receiver off and just ran him right out of bounds. Very smart play. Good man to man coverage that time. And again, quarterback, maybe the wind's pushing it a little bit, but make that mistake in towards the field, not out towards the sideline.

This whole first quarter has been played on the Ferris half of the field. Here's the snap. Back to Backland. A roll. He rolls to the right for a rugby punt.

And this will be the first play that will be taking place on the Gonzaga Prep. Into the field is good. Boot downfield. And it goes out of bounds at the 41. And Gonzaga Prep will have it at their own 41.

And they will throw it on. First down, McKenna under pressure, is hit and sacked. Two players got through there. The second guy cleaned it all up for Ferris. That is Jide Olajoegbi.

But also they had DJ Romero that was in all over him. He kind of spun away from Romero, but Ola Joyegbi cleaned him up. Back at the 35 yard line for a loss of five, it looks like. And we also have a flag down that came in kind of late, so I wonder if there was a face mask or a hit, a high hit. Something along those lines.

Because this is a 15 yard face mask is the call. Yeesh. And so the loss again. Another biggie, Larry, in terms of a play that Ferris made. But then they got penalized for it and now it's giving the advantage back to Gonzaga Prep.

So the loss of six on the play and then the penalty marked off from the end of the foul or the end of the run. So it's first down and a yard and back to throw it. McKenna fires deep over the middle, had a man wide open with nobody around him and he overthrew and holy moly. He had a man running free right down the middle of the field and just threw it too tall. And that sometimes is the hardest throw you're gonna make when you have a guy that wide open.

The safety actually blitzed and came right up the middle, but nobody picked him up. The linebacker's probably supposed to run with that guy. Somebody was supposed to pick him up out of the backfield. Never happened. And he was wide, wide open.

It was Robert Collier that was open. Second down and a yard. They will hand it off this time. And a first down run here by the running back. Breaking tackles.

No, that's the quarterback, McKenna all the way down inside the 25 yard line and he has finally spilled down at the 24. That is a huge gain of 26 yards and a first down. Couple of broken tackles when he got outside there. Just a nice job of cutting back up field, showing that toughness. And that's the end of the first quarter.

They will run it to the left side off a fake. McKenna gets down inside the 20 to about the 19, maybe the 18 yard line. He is taken down on the play by Preston Newcomb as he gets down to the 18. We'll call it for a gain of 6. Newcome's been a busy bee out there as well.

You know, Barry's had a nice game. Wagner's been flying around, you know, the junior defensive end. There's some guys up front that are making plays. Second down and four for the bullpups out of the pistol and McKenna will fake the handoff run the option to the right side, gets hit, gets run back and the officials blow the play. Dead forward progress at the 20 yard line.

And Ferris was all over in that time. Cruz Wheeler was among those that hit him first, I think was Cruz. They hit him first and ran him backwards for a loss, you know, and that sometimes you got to be careful. We had a, we had an early whistle in an eastern game on that interception return. They blew that play dead as well.

So sometimes, you know, it looks like they're going backwards. You got to be careful on that whistle, make sure the play's bit little A over, loss of two. Third down and six now for the bullpups high snap. Here's a fake of the handoff. McKenna runs right, burrows forward and gets short of the first down.

But I'm sure they'll go for it on fourth down. They'll have about two yards and a flag comes in late and I'll bet you that's going to be another roughing call on Ferris here. That was DJ Romero that was in the middle of that, that made that tackle. Doing a great job. He's playing both ways right now.

And another face mask. Yeah. Wow. So they had McKenna stop short. That's a first down a half the distance and so that'll be tacked on to the end of the play.

Just bulldoze his way down there. I thought he might have been able to stretch and get that ball over the the end line, but his knee hit down. Good call by the Fish officials over here on the Ferris sideline. So second and goal they put him. Well we'll call it the one.

The ball between the one and two yard lines here. McKenna claps his hands and hands it off again. Ortega this time off the right side. He is into the end zone. Touchdown.

Gonzaga Prep Jaden Ortega with his second rushing touchdown of the ballgame, his sixth of the season. This coming from a yard out and early here in the second quarter with 10:08 remaining to play, it's now a 13 nothing ballgame. Also remember Larry, there were two face mask penalties on this drive that help keep this drive alive. When they look like they had some good plays, Ferris came in and made some mistakes. So a 59 yard drive, the point after is booted up and good by Deshain and we'll take a timeout.

Took a 1 yard rushing touchdown by Ortega to make it a 14 nothing ball game for Gonzaga Prep. All right, Deshaun ready to kick off. Two men back deep inside their five yard line.

Here's the boot downfield. It is short. It'll hit at the 20. Bounce straight up in the air. Nobody's after it.

Gonzaga Prep's got it at the 23 yard line. Ferris guys all stood around it like it was a grenade. Nobody went for it. And Gonzaga Prep recovers at the Ferris 22 yard line. Wow.

And I think that Wheeler was there looking at but there's somebody else kind of came over. I couldn't see his number. Looked like he was going to feel it. So it's just a miscommunication. Huge turnover.

Another opportunity now for Prep to get great field position on Ferris 22 on a special teams blunder. And so first down and 10 for the third time in four possessions. Prep starting in Ferris territory this time at the 20. Two receivers to the side, wings to either side. McKenna the quarterback takes the snap, runs to the left side on the option, pitch it to Ortega, gets around the corner, inside the 20 to the 15 and is knocked out of bounds over across the way at about the 10 yard line, maybe the 11 yard line.

That's going to be a gain though of 11 and be a first down run. Nice job that time pitching the wide side of the field. They got a little bit of an angle. Good job by the corner for Ferris to come up on the outside. Kind of force Ortega to bounce it to the outside.

They were finally able to knock him out of bounds. But a nice, nice first down run there and got a first down. First down and 10. They hand it to Ortega this time off the right side. No, it's McKenna keeping off the fake and he gets inside the 10 down to about the eight yard line it looks like before he is wrestled off his feet.

In on the tackle that time for Ferris was Josh Bine. That's what prep does so well that makes this offense so difficult to defend. They hide the ball. It's hard to find the darn thing. So you kind of have to tackle everybody.

The fullback, if he goes through the quarterback, you know, with it and then rally to the pitch guy. So you've got to find the football, identify who it has at that time it was difficult and it's really hard when there's a light pole in the way. Here's a run. It's Ortega off the right side and he'll drive into the end zone for his third touchdown of the ball game. Jalen Ortega takes it in from 8 yards out this time he has runs of 6 and 1.

Earlier in the ball game, Ortega's third rushing touchdown makes it a 20 to nothing game. Great blocking on the right side that time. He hit the hole perfectly. Excellent read by McKenna. He saw that he had that, that opening between the guard and the tackle.

He handed it off perfectly. Just well blocked and tough to defend. And again you turn the ball over in the 22. That doesn't bode well for your defense. Point after by Deshaine is up.

It is good. We'll take another timeout. We are down to 9:20 remaining to play in the first half. But no, they don't. They fumble it. And Gonzaga Prep has it again. Wow. The second straight miscue on a kickoff.

This one was just muffed by the return man. It falls on the ground and Gonzaga Prep recovers back inside the Ferris 20 yard line. Gregory Flynn, number 21 is also defensive back. Came hustling down there in special teams and boy, I tell you, when, when things start going bad, they go bad quickly. But that was just great hustle by Flynn and he just ripped the ball out of the young man's hands.

And great field position once again for prep at the Ferris 19 yard line. First down and 10. McKenna out of the pistol, takes the snap, fakes the handoff, runs himself to the left, gets inside the 15 and lowers his shoulder and drives his way down to about the 11y. Pick up 8 yards on first down. Again you have to, you know, try to figure out how to stop that fullback.

And then you've got to get your eyes to the quarterback. He does such a good job. This is really, you know, a routine thing. He sees what they're, what this defense has given him. He's taking advantage of it.

Second down and along two ball spotted between the 12 and the 11 yard lines. McKenna takes the snap, fakes the handoff, runs to the right side, gets inside the 10 and dives to the eight. And that should be good for a first down for Ferris, Darien Keller, Darian Riley there was on the stop. Another, another nice first down. Now you know, they spotted.

Oh, they do give him first down. I'm sorry, Paul. No, that's okay. I thought it was close. And then.

So anyway, good, good run. So a gain of three yards. The ball spotted at the eight and again the tackle. Depaulo wipes out the center before the play. I think that was on prep.

Somebody moved. Yep. Unfortunately, the center got ear holed this time. Legitimately. He didn't move.

Somebody else did. I would make sure whoever did that went up and apologized for that poor young man getting pummeled. They spot the ball back at the 14, so now it'll be first and goal from the 14 yard line. Ball on the right hash mark. Receivers to either side.

McKenna takes the snap, fakes the handoff, wants to throw over the middle looking for Deshain. And he got him in the back of the end Zone, but he couldn't hang. Pass incomplete. So the ball, that was a perfectly thrown ball. And Deshaun, he has caught three touchdowns this year.

That should have been the fourth. And he can't believe he didn't make the catch. You know, I think in one of those situations, this is not an excuse, but he's looking for that back end line. And the one thing you need to do when you catch a football is look the football into your hands. I think he took a peek and that's why it bounced off him.

Second and goal now for prep at the Ferris 14. McKenna takes the. Well now he'll look to the bench as they have plenty of time on the play clock here. Milken, a little time off that clock. The clock stopped obviously with the incomplete pass.

And they will run option to the left and McKenna will keep it inside the 10, breaking a tackle down inside the five. And he'll finally be stopped as he gets to the four, maybe the three. So a gain of 10 or 11 yards for the junior quarterback, Ryan McKenna. Just a nice job of kind of stretching out this, this Ferris defense. They're big between the tackles.

It looks like they're going to take a timeout and so they will take the timeout and we will keep it here on third and goal at the three yard line with 756 remaining to play here in the first half. There's the snap and they fake the handoff. McKenna rolling out to the right side, throwing into the back of the end zone, diving try. And it is caught for a touchdown. A touchdown for Gonzaga Prep and it's Arias who hauls it in. So Arias with a receiving touchdown from McKenna, his seventh passing touchdown of the ball game.

And for Arias, his second receiving touchdown of the season. McKenna's seventh passing touchdown of the year, I should say. And it's 27 nothing now and that was just a nice job. Good roll up to the right side. Great route by Arias and he looked that ball in, went right to the ground.

That was a nice play. Point after is up and it is good. We will take a timeout. Our score here in the second quarter with 752 remaining. It's now 28 nothing Gonzaga Prep and we'll take a timeout on the Arby's GSL Game of the Week on 700 ESPN and 105.

Here's the run forward in the kickoff now for Gonzaga Prep. High end over end, pretty deep downfield. This will be grabbed at the seven yard line by Aguirre. Up the left side, gets across the 15 and gets to maybe the 17 yard line. And that's where Ferris will start.

First down and 10. Our STCU touchdown drive. Recap. Four plays, 19 yards cat by the three yard pass from a Canada area, it is 28 nothing. Gonzaga Prep last two touchdowns set up by special teams, fumble recoveries that gave them great field position.

So an excellent job by prep. They're winning the defensive battle. They're shutting out Ferris right now. They're winning the special teams. They forced two fumbles and the offense is doing what the offense does.

They put the football in the end zone with four touchdowns. Well, one wasn't even a fumble. They never even. And there's another penalty on Ferris. Holy moly.

I know that's gonna take them back to the eight yard line. It's not like they've had good field position they can, you know, rely on. It's been really tough sledding for them. So first down and ten now for The Saxons back of their own eight on the right hash. Three receivers go to the left, one to the right.

Newcomb, the quarterback takes the snap under pressure, runs and gets dropped for a loss at the six yard line. So that's going to be a loss of about 2 yards on the play. And so it'll be second down and 12. I think that was McKiernan, the outside back of 42 that came in there. The sophomore doing a nice job.

They're rushing four and they're blocking five, and they can't block those four up front. So just a nice job of staying in his lane, seeing the quarterback, you know, take off. And then he came off his block, made the tackle. Nice job. Loss at 2.

Second down and 12 now for the Saxons. They're moving right to left in front of us here in the second quarter. Again, trips to the right side. Two men wide to the or. Two men wide to the right, I should say.

And three men wide to the left. And they will run it. Newcomb thought. The ball pops in the air. Another fumble.

But I think Ferris recovered. Wow, that ball popped up in the air. I think Ferris did get it. Or did they? Prep says they have it, but the officials are the one that that counts.

And they're saying that Ferris got it back. And so Ferris keeps it at the eight yard line. So they gained two yards out of all that. So it'll be third and 10. There's a movie where this one guy fumbled in a game and the coach made him carry the football around for the entire week.

I think, Tommy, you're out. May have to do that a little bit for a couple of these guys. They've got to hang on to the ball. Ball possession, you know, carry the ball out there like a loaf of bread. Somebody comes in and rips the arm, that ball's gonna pop straight up in the air.

Just like that happen. You've got to secure the football well and six penalties as well. So Ferris is doing everything they can to hurt themselves here. Two receivers go either side on third and 10 at their own eight. And Newcomb will throw, fires it out to the right side.

Diving try incomplete. Would have been right near the first down marker as Ola Joy Egby was the intended receiver there. And so it'll be fourth down. And he was open, Larry, he was there. Great route, little speed out.

He knew right where the sticks were. But that ball just sailed a little bit on him. The wind has died down. It's not as bad as it was about 45 minutes ago. But that's, that's a ball quarterbacks got to put in Olive Egby's chest and let him catch that because he's got a chance in to plant that foot, get up field, get some more positive yards.

So Prep will probably get it in Ferris territory again here after this punt as Mason Backland will rugby punt this downfield. The deep man stands on his side of midfield. Here's the boot. Nicely done downfield. And this will be fielded at the 43 yard line.

Luciano Reynolds now running to the right side 35 trying to get outside inside the 30 and has finally stopped at about the 28 or 9 yard line. So Reynolds is going to get about a 15 yard return there after a punt of 35. But again Gonzaga Prep with great field position this time at the 29 of Ferris. I think there's been one possession where prep has started outside of Ferris 50 yard line and they still drove the ball 59 yards down the field for a touchdown. So you just make it easy when you cut this game in half in this field in half.

And that's exactly what's happened here. Prep has started the Ferris 40, Ferris 25, own 41, Ferris 22, Ferris 19. And now at the Ferris 29. On first down, McKenna runs option left side. Inside the 30 he goes minimal gain.

Looks like he gets to about the 28 and that'll be a pickup of a yard, maybe two and it'll be second down. So they'll, we'll call it. They started at the 30 and he gets to the 28 for two. So it'll now be second down and eight. McKenna hands it off to Ortega off the left side, hit and drop for a loss.

That's going to be about a 1 yard loss on the play there. And I believe that was Collier on the run and I believe on the stop for Ferris it was Peyton Barry. Might have been Cruz Wheeler. Cruz Wheeler. Okay, so a loss of a yard there on that run.

So now it's third down and nine and again they hand it off into the middle and having a first down run. This is Collier inside the 20, to the 15, inside the 10, inside the 5. And he's finally run out of bounds down at the three yard line on a third and nine play. Collier took off to the left and then bellied back to his right, all the way to the right sidelines for a gain of 26. Johnny Talarico was finally the defensive back that knocked him out of bounds.

Just a nice job of, you know, seeing the field, seeing that he had a lot of running room to the right side. He just bounced it. Showed some good speed. Talarico saved the touchdown. First down, goal to go.

Now from the three yard line, Collier is the running back and he will get the call. Straight up the middle he goes and he's into the end zone for a touchdown. Collier straight up the middle between the center and right guard and he's able to drive into the end zone. Got spun around and he end up sitting right at the goal line for his three yard rushing touchdown. And it's now 34 nothing.

Gonzaga prep here in the second quarter and they're just doing it with great field position, excellent specialty teams forcing turnovers. Ferris defense has not played that bad, Larry. They've made a couple of mistakes but they've been put in just brutal field position to try to defend here in the first half. And the touchdown drives have been 25, 59, 22, 19 and now 30 yards point after is good. And it's now a 35 to nothing game here in the first half with 4 minutes and 53 seconds remaining to play here in the first half.

Well they've had four touchdowns Larry since the 10:08 mark of the second quarter. 927, 52 and now you just mentioned 453. So lickety split. When you don't have to go that far, you can score awfully quick. And they're blowing Ferris out right now.

And Ferris has been their own worst enemy in this game with penalties and Turnovers. Let's see here, 84, 106, 125, 155 yards is all they've driven for five touchdowns. So that's an average of 31 yards per per touchdown drive there. Alrighty. Coast to coast turf.

He had a 29 yard or 28 yard run earlier in that 26 yard run. Excuse me, earlier in that drive. And so he runs it in from three yards out and it's now 35 nothing. Here's Aguirre from the nine yard line running to the left side at the 15. Belly's all the way back inside the 1215 and has stopped at the 12.

I'll tell you what it comes a time where you just got to run the ball up field. And they have spent almost all of their time on these returns running laterally, not up the field. And now they're stopped at their own 11 or 12. And that's where you just have to have a coach tell, you know, show them exactly how it's done and they'll be able to see it on film. It'll be a great, great example in terms of what's going on film wise.

So Ferris now at their own 12, they've started their own 14, their own one, their own 17, two kickoff return muffs then at the eight and now at their 12 here. And they will run it on first down. Cruz Wheeler bounces outside to the right side and he might get to the 15 yard line and it looks like that's where he will get before he is stopped. So a gain of about three yards there. And for Gonzaga Prep, if the young man will turn around so I can see his number, I'll let you know who made the tackle.

It was Andrew Chan who was in on that stop. So a three yard run that time for crew and it's second down and seven now for Ferris at their own 15 here 35, nothing in favor of Gonzaga Prep. Ola Joy Egbi is the receiver wide to the left side. Aguirre is wide to the right and the quarterback out of the pistol takes the snap, hands it off. Wheeler off the right side, will get to the 17 and he is knocked down there as that time for Gonzaga Prep it was Kevin McKiernan on the stop.

You know, this is a situation where Ferris just needs to get some lightning in a bottle. A big play, something positive. How about a first down, you know, something Larry, to get them, you know, a little bit of a lift here before halftime. You got 3:40 to go. They've got time.

They can put together a drive, get some points here, stop a little bit of the bleeding, take the pressure off their defense. And their sp. Ferris has had one first down so far in this game. They have Ola Joyegbi out to the left side, Aguirre out to the right, third and four at their own 18. Newcome out of the pistol, wants to throw does and that ball is incomplete.

I don't know whether Aguirre stopped his route and the quarterback wasn't expecting him to or not, but that ball led him too far and was nearly picked off back there by Luciano Reynolds. It was a good route, I thought. Just a situation where, you know, sometimes you try to get a little too fine and feather that in there. You've got a big body and a guire. Hit him right in the chest.

You see him throw the ball, hit him in the numbers. Reynolds stands back around midfield to return this kick from Backland as Farris punts it away again here. Another three and out for the Saxons. Backland gets the snap, runs to the right, boots it downfield. Not a good kick.

Squibbed into the sideline, hits at the 31 yard line, takes a right hand turn and goes out of bounds at the 31 yard line. And so Gonzaga Prep again starts in Ferris territory at the 31. That's 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6. Six out of seven possessions. Gonzaga Prep has started in Ferris territory.

So first down and ten for the bullpups at the 31 yard line of Ferris. One receiver splits to the right side. That's Duchene one to the left. The quarterback McKenna takes the snap, fakes the handoff, wants to throw, does has a catch. That's COLLIER Inside the 20, inside the 15 and he has wrestled out of bounds at the 14 yard line it looks like for a gain of 17 yards and a first down.

That is their first passing completion of the ball game for Gonzalez Prep. The 17 yarder to Collier gives them a first down. And that is a Damon Orthodontics first down at the 14 yard line. They had that one touchdown, Larry. Remember the little three yarder on the rollout?

Oh, that's true. That was okay, thank you very much. All right, here's the fake of the handoff and a pitch. Now this is Collier on the left side and he gets inside the 10 and is struggling his way down. Looks like to about the five yard line before they finally wrestle him down.

That's another nine yard pick up. So it'll be second down and a yard now after that nine yard Collier run. Second down and one here and they will fake the handoff. McKenna runs to the left side and he burrows toward the end zone. Will be stopped short of the goal line.

But he should have enough for the first down, I would think. Yep. And he will have a first down it looks like. Down to the one is where they will put it. And that's exactly where they mark the ball.

First down, goal to go. And here's another run. McKenna again and he takes it in. And there will be a illegal shift called here on Gonzaga Prep. So that'll cost them five yards and there will be no touchdown.

That just keeps the clock running here at 2:07. They keep burning the clock here and you know, again, just a situation where, you know, some things that Prep can work on. They've made some mistakes as well and you know that they'll, they'll straighten that thing out. But you know, I. This is a tough deal for Ferris.

They're trying to just stop the dam from breaking right now because they've just been put in awful situation. So first and goal now from back at the six yard line. Ball on the left hash mark. McKenna takes the snap, fakes the handoff, keeps it himself off the left side, dives inside the five and will be run back as he gets to the four. Run back by about half the Ferris team, if not more.

So a lot of gray shirted Saxons were all over that play. It'll be second down and goal now from the four yard line. DePaulo was one of the guys that was running backwards giving forward progress down to the three. Last time they were down here, they ran a little roll out action to the right side for that three yard touchdown. Let's see if they try to get wide, try to keep Ferris tight inside with a fake run up the middle and then get to the outside, let one of the receivers cut across the middle.

So second down and goal now from the three ball on the left hash mark here. McKenna takes the snap, fakes the handoff, runs to the right, keeps it himself into the end zone. Not even touched until he hit the end zone. Ryan McKenna with a running touchdown. That is a three yard run.

That's his first rushing touchdown of the ball game. And Gonzaga Prep now takes a 41 to nothing lead here in the second quarter of play. And we are down to a minute eight remaining to play in quarter number two. Excellent drive. And they're capitalizing on the mistakes that Ferris is making there.

They're putting it to them right now. They're doing a great job. And the point after is good. And that makes it a 42 to nothing ballgame here with again a minute eight remaining to play here in the first half. So McKenna, the one yard rushing touchdown, or excuse me, the three yard rushing touchdown makes it a 42 to nothing game.

That is dropped and picked up down there. Running it back to the 15 yard line as Stead and Huddleston dropped that kickoff. But he was able to grab it before Gonzaga Prep could get to it. But again the third, the second muffed kickoff and the third and then there was another one not fielded by Ferris. And again they start deep in their own Inc.

At the 15. Wow. It's just when the Rock keeps on rolling. They just can't stop the bleeding right now. And this is where somebody on this team has to step up and make a play, Larry, and just get some confidence back on the Ferris sidelines are just having a tough time right now and Prep has taken them out of kind of their, their wheelhouse a little bit.

Two receivers split to the left, one to the right and Newcomb, the quarterback operates out of the pistol and they hand it off. And that ball is fumbled as the handoff was never completed between the center and the running back or the quarterback and the running back. But I think Ferris recovered was I believe Darien O'Reilly who recovered that fumble. And it'll end up being no gain on the Play. Down to 45 seconds left, so probably the last play of the half here and they're just going to have to go in and try to regroup and try to calm down and you know, just to get something positive going here in the second half.

Second down and 10, two receivers left, one split to the right and again the pistol formation. And they will run it again. This is Riley gets tripped up in the backfield for a loss of yardage back at about the 12 or 13 yard line as that time for Gonzaga Prep it was Luke Miller with the tackle for loss. Back to the 12. It looks like Prep is just getting great penetration up the middle.

It's just a tough time right now to try to block them. They're teeing off on this, on this football team, doing an excellent job. Good gap defense and that ends the first half of play. And what a first half for Gonzaga Prep as they took over 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 drives in Ferris territory and they score on five of them. All but the very first one here in the first half of play.

Gonzaga Prep took over at their own or at the Ferris 25 and that was led to the first touchdown and Ortega six yard run. It was seven nothing at that point.

After another punt we start the second quarter of play. Ortega caps a 59 yard drive with a one yard run 14 to nothing. Then nobody caught the ensuing kickoff for Ferris. Gonzaga Prep recovered at the Ferris 22, Ortega an eight yard run, 21 nothing. The next kickoff was fumbled.

Gonzaga Prep recovered at the Ferris 19. McKenna Arias a three yard pass, 28 nothing. A three and out for Ferris. Collier a three yard rushing touchdown capped a 30 yard drive. 35 nothing.

Another three and out for Ferris McKenna three yard rushing touchdown and it was 42 nothing in favor of the bullpen pups. Ferris had one first half first down. Gonzaga Prep gets six first half touchdowns. We will have a running second half clock. Gonzaga Prep 42, Ferris nothing.

I mean you can't hand the ball over on the 19 yard line, the 22 yard line, the 30 yard line, you know, like they did and, and, and expect your defense to keep this offense that Gonzaga Prep has out of the end zone. So just take care. You, you mentioned it too, Larry, in the, in the first half about running sideline to sideline instead of getting up field, just calm things down. They're trying to make too much plays, trying to get outside the box a little bit, Just, just settle down a little bit, put together some drives, get some first downs, give your defense a chance to rest a little bit.

They were on the field an awful lot here in the first half in brutal situation. So terrible first half for, for Ferris, Very good first half for Gonzaga Prep. Now it's time to calm down and turn this thing around a little bit and try to be positive, get something good to happen. Get something positive and build on that. And so Ferris will kick off to start the second half here to Gonzaga Prep.

And this will be. Ferris will be defending the goal to our right here, the goal to the west. And so Gonzaga Prep will send two men back deep to receive. And our second half kickoff brought to you by Papa Murphy's Mason Backland will boot. It looks like Luciano Reynolds is one of the deep men and I think Deshain is the other one for Gonzaga Prep.

Here's the run forward and are underway here in the second half with a running clock. It's Deshain from the 16 yard line. He runs straight up the right hash mark, crosses the 25 and gets to the 30 and is stopped there. And that's where Gonzaga puts Prep will have it first down and 10. Big difference between that kickoff return and from Ferris.

Yeah, exactly. And he took the ball, went right up the middle. Now he didn't break a big play, but he got it out close to the 30 yard line because he went straight up the field. Good job that time by Ferris. They stayed in their lanes there.

A nice tackle in the open field. Now it's time for the defense to try to get a stop, get some positive field position, you know, give your offense a chance to put something together. McKenna still in there at quarterback. Ortega will be the running back back. And we are ready to roll here at their own 30.

On the right/Mark McKenna moves Ortega over to the left of him and he claps his hands, gets the ball, hands it off to Collier from the right wing position, running to the left side. And he will be stopped as he gets close to the 35 yard line for a gain of about four and a half yards there on the play. And it was Ola Joy Egby on the stop. Yeah, he's been busy. He's been all over the field on offense, trying to catch passes, running the ball.

And on defense he's been flying around, playing both ways. He's played hard out there. It's just been a tough day. Gain a four second down and six ball on the left hash this time around. And they will run it again.

Fake at the handoff and McKenna will go. He dodges one man, gets out across the 40 and will be spilled up at about the 45 yard line. After a gain of about 11 more yards on that play. About three or four Saxons were in there on that stop, including Darien Riley. Yeah, that's just a design play to get outside that time the fullback was leading on the block.

Did a nice job of kicking out the end. That gave McKenna the edge there so he can cut up field. First down and 10. They will run option to the left side. McKenna gets hit from behind this time and brought down.

He might have lost a yard. I think that was Devion Walter that ran him down from behind that time. Yeah, that was a nice play by Walter. He did a good job of flashing right down the line of scrimmage. He defeated the block up front.

Then he just went parallel down the line of scrimmage, was able to catch up to McKenna. That was an excellent play. Very good defense. That's what you want. You want to have pursuit.

You want to be strong at the point of attack. And looks like we've got a penalty here going against Pratt. Yeah, a chop block. So that'll be 15 yards from the spot of the foul. And so that's going to mark it all the way back to about the 30 yard line.

He's out over the 40, 45, 50. There he goes down the right hash mark of the 40, 35, 30, 25, 520. 15 to the 10, to the 5. And he's in for a touchdown. Mason Backland had a try at him at about the five yard line, but it was too little, too late.

So after the penalty it was first and 25. And McKenna rips off a 70 yard run to start the second half and it's now 48 to nothing. Great blocking up front. Excellent job on McKenna. He saw it and then cut back.

He was right on the hash mark. Then cut back to the outside of the field. Just outran the safety from Ferris and showed some really good speed there in the open field. Nice blocking up front but his speed was a difference as he took that all the way. Big play and so the point after now from Deshain as the clock is running early.

Third quarter we are down now to 8:04 remaining in the quarter and here's the point. It is up and it is Good. Deshaine is seven out of seven. Here's a good return up over the 20 yard line and Ferris was some of their best field position to this game as that time they did just take it straight up the hash and no fiddling around that time and on the return that time it was AJ Newcomb who's actually the quarterback and he's able to return up to the 24 yard line.

Looks like we're going to have a quarterback change they're going to bring Paxton Page back in. Who's been the starter. He's a transfer out of Oregon City, so he's coming in to play qb. And so Page starts the second half of play. So this could have been a disciplinary situation of a half football.

Or maybe they decided they were going to make a change and decided now it's time to do something different. And do we have a timeout? We do have a timeout. So we'll take the break to 49 nothing. Gonzaga prep back in one minute on the Arby's GSL game of the week on 700 ESPN 105.

On first down after the timeout, Page throws quickly out to the left side, has a catch by Aguirre and he is knocked off his feet as he gets to the 31 yard line. That's a gain of seven. And so it'll be second down and three. That's Paige's favorite target. Aguirre has been his go to guy.

They were both at Oregon, at Oregon City together and transferred in. So you know, Ferris did a nice job of getting two pretty darn good football players. Two receivers split to the right side and Paige takes the snap and fades back, looks to the right, throws deep on the right side and that's a jump ball situation. And who came down with that? Nobody.

Pass incomplete. Good defense as he was looking for Aguirre. We have a flag down in the backfield here. Looks like it's going to be on Gonzaga prep. The referee, when he signals the penalty signals to the press box.

It was on the other side of the field, so his back is to us. We couldn't tell what the penalty was, but it's going to be a big walk up, 15 yarder, 15 yarder and take it up to the 46 yard line. Could have been roughing the passer, could have been late hit. Could have been hands to the face. Who knows?

I mean, you just couldn't see. We need Superman vision, be able to see through. So the 15 yard penalty gives them a first down. That is a Damon Orthodontics first down. And it's first down and 10 now for just their second of the game.

And it's first down and 10 up at their own 46. One receiver to either side, a tight end and a wing in the game. And back to throw it as Paige has time. Nobody open though. Now he will run.

Dodges one man, bounces outside to the right and gets stopped right at about the line of scrimmage. Kaz Melzer was there for Gonzaga Prep among those in on the stop. And it looks like they'll put him at the 46. And that might be a loss of a yard. I think Page might be a little bit better.

Runner does, does a nice job. He's had to avoid pressure in the first couple games of the year and he's had a couple of big runs. So if he can get freed, he might be able to kind of shake some things up here. This is by far the best drive that Ferris has had, aided by that 15 yard penalty. But they're moving the ball a little bit.

There's a little bit of spark, little life here in this Saxon offense. No gain on that play. Second down and 10. Now Ferris has not. This is the deepest penetration they've got in the game.

They have not yet crossed midfield in this ball game. Game one back in the backfield. That's Huddleston. And Paige will throw, throws it out to the left sidelines incomplete. Threw up, led his man a little bit too far.

Kobe Smith. But that was pretty good coverage out there for Gonzaga Prep by Gregory Flynn. Yeah, Flynn does a nice job. He's. He's a good cover guy and I like the way he plays.

He's a young man that probably can go on and play at small college ball somewhere. And you know, there's some eyeballs on this, on this prep defense, especially some of the juniors on this team. They're gonna, they're gonna have a good recruiting class. Coming out when that. That group's a senior.

It is over 40 points here. And so the clock running continuously, even at incomplete passes. And it's third down and 10 now for Ferris at their own 46. Wide receivers to either side, a wing to the right and Page to throw. Looking to the right, throwing to the right.

And that ball was incomplete. I think it was two. I was gonna say it was either tipped or it slipped out of his hands a little bit. One or the other. And the pass is incomplete.

So it's fourth down. I think there was pressure that came from the back side. That was Kaz Melzer who came in. I think he got a hand on the ball when he was trying to throw that because that thing looked like it kind of came out. Just went straight to the ground, almost knocked down.

And so Backland is on to punt and Luciano Reynolds stands back inside his 25 yard line here. Wind has picked up again here at Gonzaga Prep High School. And here is the boot away. Low line drive downfield. That'll hit inside the 30, bounce back inside.

Well, only to the 25 and is killed there. And that's where Gonzaga Prep will get it. At their own 25 following that punt. First down and 10 yards to go. It is 49 to nothing in favor of the bullpups.

And we are down to 221 left. Third quarter since 1902. State back northwest with branches in Spokane Valley. Garfield, no, Spokane have proven they are full service banking on a first name basis. State Bank Northwest, your local community bank member fdic.

Well, let's see who's into the ball game here. It is still McKenna at quarterback. He's got Ortega with it in the backfield here from their own 25 on the left hash. And they will hand it off to the wing. That's Collier.

Big opening across the 30. Bounces outside on the right side over the 35 and is dragged down from behind as he gets to the 39 yard line for a gain of about 14 yards. Newcomb there to bring him down. Little fly sweep action. They brought him in motion across and just handed the ball off in front.

But very good blocking on the right side by that offensive line by Gonzaga Prep. Nice job. First and 10 at their own 39 here for prep. Ball on the right hash. They will hand it off again.

Fly sweep run into left side and a nice defensive play stops the ball carrier, I think for a loss of yardage. Khalil Lindsey was there on the stop of Nick Banke, the ball carrier. And that'll be A loss of yardage, there gonna be a lot more people you're gonna see kind of emptying the benches on both sides. Good chance to get some experience here, a chance to play some of the backups and see what they can do. And the officials giving back to the 39 for no gain on the play.

And now they'll run the option to the left side. And this play will get across the 40. It'll be stopped out at about the 41 or 2 yard line. It's Banky again. He is a load.

He's a 220 pounder and he runs low to the ground. So he's not easy to tackle. I mean, he's, you know, you've got to really center up, square up on him to try to knock him down. That's not an easy, easy play. So third and eight now at their own 41 for Gonzaga Prep.

Clock counting down. Where they have 22 still on the play. Clock here, here, 49, nothing. Gonzaga Prep. And they will run it.

McKenna keeps it himself. First down and more across the 50, 45, 40. There he goes. Foot race. He's gonna win it again.

20, 15, 10, 5. It's a touchdown for Gonzaga Prep. McKenna, another long touchdown. This one a 59 yarder. And that comes with the clock counting down here in the third quarter.

That comes at the end of the third quarter. A play. McKenna's third rushing touchdown. He is thrown for one as well. And so now it is 55 to nothing.

And we'll get the PAT and then the end of the quarter. So McKenna with 70 and 59 yard runs here in the second half. He just did a nice job of finding that cutback lane. Larry and Ferris over pursued a little bit. He planted that foot cut back and won the foot race.

Snap back, ball spotted, kick up, kick is good. And we'll take a timeout. Recap. 75 yards capped by the McKenna 59 yard rushing touchdown. It's a 560 game and I should also tell you the third quarter was presented by Tiorama. So now Gonzaga Prep will kick it off with the ball on the tee from the 40 yard line and Ferris will have the ball. See what they can do offensively here in the fourth quarter as they trail 56 to nothing.

Now here in this ball game, and here's the kick, and this is angled toward the sidelines and it's going to bounce out of bounds. And that means Ferris will have their best field position of this ballgame at their own 35 yard line. Well, they show they could move the ball a little bit on that last drive, Larry, and just, you know, it's too much. McKenna, right now for Gonzaga Prep, the defense is getting tired. They've been on the field a long time.

Now it's time for the Ferris offense to put together a drive and they showed they could move the ball a little bit. Now be consistent, continue that, put the football in the end zone. Because the way they're going, they lost 26 nothing last week. If they don't score, that's two shutouts in a row and it's 7. 2 in the game before that.

So it's been a little bit of a drought on the offensive side for the Saxons. And that's where the timing comes into play. Just trying to get to know your teammates and work together. I have McKenna 218 yards rushing here in this ball game for Gonzaga Prep. So first down now for Ferris.

They have it at their own 35. And there's the snap. Back Page looks to the left side, throws to the left side, has a catch across the 30 and he gets to about the 32 yard line or so as Johnny Talarico was the receiver. I said that they started 35, so they got up to the 42. So that was a gain of about 7 yards.

Just a little curl route Nice job. Talarico went down, turned around, found a space and ball hit him right in the numbers. Good job. Good catch. Good defense because he was right there.

Defender knocked him down. Good pursuit by Prep. Second down and three ballet there on 42 as they getting it toward the center of the field here. Two receivers to either side. Page the quarterback out of the pistol, takes the snap, throws it out to the left side, has a catch and up the sidelines with a good first down play.

And out of bounds, I believe was Ola. Ola. Ah, shoot. Ola Joyegbi. There you go.

When I don't say it for a while, I get out of the rhythm of it. So Ola Joyegbi with the catch all the way down. And it's a Damon Orthodontics. First down to the 41 yard line. The first time fair Ferris has been in prep territory for best play of the day for Ferris and just a nice out route.

Great catch and then excellent job of tight roaming down the Gonzaga prep sidelines to get that first down and move that ball. So 17 yards to Ola Joe Egby and it's first down and 10 now at the 41 yard line. Low snap and Page will just have to fall on it back at the 47 yard line. So they're going to lose about six yards. Low snap.

He couldn't cover it and he just went down. He couldn't field it cleanly and he just went down to the ground and covered it at the 47. Last week against me, there were several of those that kind of messed up the timing for the offense. So that center quarterback exchange has been problematic all season long. Center's got to get that ball up that was down by the ankles.

That's tough for a quarterback. Trying to line everything up. Looking downfield to see what the defense can do and then the ball hits you in the shins. So second down and 16. Two receivers to either side.

Snap back and here's a throw to the left sidelines and a catch to the 40 yard line. Trying to see who that is on the receiving end there for Ferris. It looks like it was Daniel Crumley. 40 yard line. And so it'll be third down here.

Think he just ran a little speed out there, but there were so many prep defenders on him, I couldn't see who caught it either. So they get it down to the 40 yard line. So they got the yardage back that they lost of seven yards. So it's third down and 10 now back to throw it. Firing out to the right sidelines.

There's a catch and a break and a tackle inside the 35 to the 30. This is Talarico inside the 25, down to the 21 yard line. And Farris is knocking on the door of the red zone here after a nice 19 yard play. And another Damon Orthodontics first down. He also got an excellent block from Anthony Aguay who came down and kind of broke that play open for him, Allowing Talarico then to spin inside and get another seven, eight yards.

Very nice job. Good heads up play by his wide receiver mate there. Okay, I don't think this is Page. I think this is Tyler Waldo in at quarterback for Ferris. That's number eight.

Yep. Instead of six, so eight. Tyler Waldo rather than Paige is the quarterback here. And Waldo takes the snap, looks to the right, throws to the right side. And the pass incomplete.

Overthrown, looking for olajoy Egby. And so now it'll be second down. A little altercation here between the Ferris and Gonzaga Prep. There was Ephraim Watkins, I think, on the Gonzaga Prep side and Depaulo on the Ferris side. And the officials get them separated and Watkins will come out of the game.

I think that was a little trying to protect the quarterback. Might have been a little bit of a late bump there, but QB was trying to hit the receiver, running a little corner route. He just let him too far and, you know, was too wide to the outside. But he had the right guy. He's identifying the open receiver and it's getting the ball.

This is good experience. Good time for him to get some snaps. And so Waldo looks to the left, throws, has a catch down at the 15 yard line. That was Talarico again. He's really had a nice drive.

He's been very impressive. You know, the ball's in the area. He goes up and snags that thing and catches it and he's tough to bring down. Gain of four down to the 15 yard line. It'll be third and six now, or, excuse me, third and four after that six yard gain.

So third down and four with the ball at the 15. They need to take it down to the 11 for the first down. The clock running. It's 56 nothing. Gonzaga Prep here in the fourth quarter of play.

Running clock in the fourth quarter, third and four. Waldo takes the snap, looks left, throws left to the sidelines, has a catch. Inside the 20 or inside the 10, I should say. And getting run out of bounds is the receiver. That was Ola Joy Egby again.

And Again, down to the six yard line, it looks like. And they picked up another first down. That was not an easy conversion. Nice job. And I like this young man that's come in and he's kind of showing some poise back there.

And I think Tom Urott's looking to find himself a quarterback. So a gain, a nine. It'll be first down and goal to go now for Ferris. We're down to five, 10 remaining to play here in the fourth quarter. Three receivers go to the right, one man wide to the left.

Waldo fades back, pressure coming, throws the ball out and the pass incomplete intended for Talarico. And so it'll be second down and goal. Good pressure that time. By prep, they just ran a little slant and were able to get pressure on, you know, on the quarterback. He had to roll the right side, have a lot of time to throw.

He actually threw the ball, found the right guy, but just a little bit too low, couldn't pull it in. They lost a yard in the spot. The ball is at the 7 rather than at the 6. The Ferris fan, the students down below saying, let's go Waldo. As opposed to where is Waldo?

Well, I suppose you could say that it kind of rhymes too. Let's go, Waldo. I like that. All right, second down and goal now from the seven. Waldo catches the snap, throws incomplete.

Looking left side once again, trying to get it to his receiver there. I believe that was Huddleston. So it'll be third down. And that time I think that was McKiernan, the outside backer over there was in coverage and got there pretty quick. That was close to PI.

But just, you know, his timing was right. That ball was just a little bit overthrown. A big third down. Like to see Farris get the ball in the end zone. Get them some positive things to happen here.

Break the shutout, you know, get them something they can work on for next week. Well, and we need to take a timeout too. So we need to score a touchdown to get a timeout. I was being a little selfish there. Thank you.

Third and goal now from the seven yard line. Four wide, two to either side. Waldo to throw, under pressure, running for his life. And he sacked all the way back outside the 15 yard line at about the 18 or so. Luciano Reynolds was there.

And also in there for Gonzaga Prep was Jin Woo Choi. So they were bringing the secondary that time. They brought pressure. H. T.

higgins likes to do that. And you know, third down situations, he's gonna basically say, my defensive can get there. You're not gonna have a lot of time to throw. We're gonna make a big play. And if you make a big play, congratulations.

That time Prep did so. Fourth and goal from the 17. Prep wants this shutout. They do. Yeah.

So fourth and goal from the 17 yard line. I see. I don't believe prep has a shutout yet this year. They do not. Back to throw.

Gonzaga Prep, guilty of a penalty, pushes the ball back to the seven yard line before they run their first play. Here's a drop snap by the quarterback, dropped again, picked up, now knocked into the end zone. And this is recovered by Farris for a touchdown.

Two times the ball got knocked away from McKenna and then it was recovered by Darion Riley in the end zone for a touchdown. And the Ferris defense, how about that? Gets a touchdown for the Saxons on the fumble recovery and it's now 50. That was just. That was just great hands there by the Saxons that time.

Kind of a bobbled snap. But then the prep quarterback picked it up. He started to his left and somebody came in and ripped at his arm popped that ball straight up in the air and a couple of prep players had a chance to get it. But Saxons ended up converting and getting a touchdown. Good for them.

And so Ferris was not really ready for running up conversion here. They weren't expecting to score a touchdown. And the clock running now just over 30 seconds and now the clock will stop as we're down to 30 and a half seconds and we will take a timeout here. We'll take the break. Our score is 56 to 6.

Waldo fires to Oligabee and he makes the catch for the touchdown. Or not the touchdown, but the two point conversion. And so now it's 56 to 8 with what do we have 16 and a half seconds remaining to play. So Gonzaga Prep does not get the shutout and their defense is playing probably fired up about that. They're grumpy because that was on the offense turning the ball over.

But give Ferris defense credit. They came in, got pressure. I think that was McKinnon. I don't know if that was McKinnon. Yeah, that was McKinnon and he had that ball out there.

Somebody ripped at it, stripped the ball, popped it up in the air. You know, couple of people had chances to get that football but Ferris ended up recovering in the end zone. Excellent job by Riley falling on that thing for the touchdown, then the two point convention. So there's some positive things they can build on for next week. Prep has played a great game but Ferris has really given them every opportunity to do what they've done.

So the fumble recovery, defensive touchdown, the two point conversion to Ola J. Olajay Again, you don't say it for a while and I lose my momentum on it. Ola Joy Egby got put that Joy six to eight game. Did you need to read one more of those things? Yes, I do.

The GSL Postgame show comes your way next. All Gonzaga prep here this evening. Bullpups roll out to an easy 56 to 8 win over Ferris. They stay undefeated. They go to 40 Ferris Falls 21 4.

Let's get our game recap in here. Presented by Village Center Cinema. Ferris got the ball to start the game. They went three and out. Gonzaga Prep took over at the Ferris 40.

They went three and out, but they punted the ball down to the Ferris one. Saxons were able to get it out from under the shadow of the of the goal post. But they could not get a first down. But they had a bad punt. Gonzaga Prep took over at the Ferris 25.

Five plays later, 25 yard drive capped by a Jaden Ortega six yard touchdown run. Seven to nothing. Ferris punts. Their next possession, Gonzaga Prep takes over at their own 41. It was a 59 yard drive.

Eight plays, a one yard rushing touchdown. Bar Ortega 14 to nothing. Ensuing kickoff hit it about the 20 yard line and all the Ferris guys acted like it was a grenade. They all stayed away from it. And Gonzaga Prep recovered it at the 19 yard line and.

Sorry, at the 22 yard line. Excuse me. Ortega. An eight yard rushing touchdown. That made it 21 to nothing.

Capping that three play drive. Ensuing kickoff. A fumble on the kickoff return. And Gonzaga Prep takes over again, this time at the Ferris 19. McKenna Arias a three yard passing touchdown.

And just like that, Ferris hadn't run an offensive play. Paul and Gonzaga Prep's lead doubled from 14 to 28. Well, they got to work on some special team stuff because that was really. And even when they had returns, they were running sideline to sideline instead of getting up field. So there's a couple of things that they're going to need to really focus on.

Hang on to the football. Little bit better strategy on the return return game. Ferris took over at their own 12. They had to punt. Gonzaga Prep took over at the Ferris 31.

McKenna three yard rushing touchdown. And that brought us to halftime. It was 42 to nothing at that point in favor of Gonzaga Prep. Gonzaga Prep gets the ball to start the third quarter. A play.

And they have a 70 yard drive. They went forward a little bit, then a penalty took them back. And this play is our play of the game. Sponsored by Lamar Outdoor Advertising. Ball back at their own 30 yard line now.

And they will run it. Collier. Nope. This is McKenna off the fake. He's out over the 40, 45, 50.

There he goes down the right hash mark of the 40. 35, 30, 25, 20, 15 to the 10, to the 5. And he's in for a touchdown. Mason Backland had a try at him at about the five yard line but it was too little too late. So after the penalty.

It was first and 25 and McKenna rips off a 70 yard run to start the second half. And it's now 48 to nothing. The point after is good, 49 nothing. Ferris punted this time, a 75 yard drive for Ferris and it was capped by a 59 yard McKenna touchdown. That made it 56 nothing.

Ferris drove down into prep territory, turned the ball over on downs inside the red zone. But on the ensuing possession after a penalty, Ryan McKenna had the ball knocked out of his hands, went backwards into the end zone where it was recovered by Damon Riley for a touchdown, or Darian Riley rather for a touchdown. And Ferris gets on the scoreboard. Two point conversion. Good.

Final score. Gonzaga Prep 56, Ferris 8. And that was just all prep. And they did a great job. They took advantage of the mistakes.

That's what good football teams do. They move themselves to four and oh, they continue to be perfect in GSL play. Ferris has got some things to work on. They're one and four. But they're going to have the battle of South Hill next week against Lewis and Clark on a Thursday night game that, you know, Tom, you're out.

Oh, he have these troops fired up. But still you got to give prep a lot of credit because they took advantage. You know the situation and when you present that many mistakes against a really good football team, you end up giving up 56 points. But I was happy to see at least Ferris got on the board. Good job by Riley to recover that fumble in the end zone.

Let the defensive score. They were out there, you know, pretty much the entire game. And so that gives them a little bit of hope for next week. We will have more of the postgame after this timeout. 568 Gonzaga prep the win on the Arby's GSL Game of the Week on 700 ESPN and 105.

And you know, he really was the guy that, you know, that led this prep team to the victory. And on the other side, how about Darion Riley recovered a fumble in the end zone and on defense he got a defensive score and that was the only score of the game for Ferris. I had Ferris 6 rushing yards, 78 passing yards and 84 yards of offense. And prep with 311 rushing yards, 20 passing yards, 331 yards of offense.

Cruz Wheeler, the top rusher for Ferris, I had him at five carries for 12 yards. Newcome passing was two out of eight for 13 yards in the first half. And then we're not sure whether Page played a little bit in this one or whether it was Waldo the rest of the way because it's hard to tell between six and eight in the, in the numbers there with the way Ferris's numbers were.

But I think Paige was in there for a little bit and he completed passes for 31 yards. And then Waldo came in and threw for 34 yards in his time in. He was two out of six, I believe. And Paige was four out of six in the ball game. Leading receiver Talarico had three for 32.

Aguirre had three for 20 and Ola Joy Agaby had 26 receiving yards for Ferris. For Prep, Ryan McKenna, I had him at 19 carries for 200 and 11 yards and three touchdowns. Jaden Ortega eight for 43 and three touchdowns. Robert Collier seven for 55. McKenna passing two out of four for 20 yards and one touchdown.

That to Arias. And Collier had the other catch for 17 yards. Ferris turned it over twice, Prep turned it over once. And those turnovers though were different in terms of where actually led to touchdowns because Gonzaga Prep was able to convert those two fumble recoveries on kickoffs for easy scores. And of course Ferris only score was the fumble recovery in the end zone that broke the shutout.
