We are at Gonzaga Prep tonight as the Bullpups coming off their game down at Inglewood last Friday or last Saturday rather in California, return home to take on the Ferris Saxons.

It is so great to have you with us tonight. We'll be joined by the great coach Adam Shackelford in just a moment, but for what it's worth, I'm Greg Talbot filling in for the great Larry Weir. Tonight on your Play by play for this Ferris Gonzaga prep game and at the top of this pregame show we are joined by Paul Manfred, the great Gonzaga Prep Athletic director. And Paul, as we get ready for this first big game, let's take a second to talk about the great adventure you guys got to have last weekend going down to Inglewood. Tell us about how that trip came together and what they took away from it.

We were really fortunate to be invited to play in what was called the First Responders bowl down in California last week at Moorpark College and was an incredible experience for our kids to be down there, see different See different things. They took a day and toured Loyola Marymount University, the Reagan National Library, the Auschwitz Museum. In addition to, you know, commingling and getting to know some of the folks, some of the kids, some of the other schools that were in the, you know, taking part in the first responders ball. So ended up being a great experience for our kids. Really cool that so many high school football teams the last 10 years have started playing out of state games early in the season.

Is that something you guys are. It seems like it's something you guys are hoping to do more because you went back to D. C. last year, too. We try to do it every opportunity we can.

It takes a heck of a fundraising effort to put it all together, and so we raise the money to do that. And so there's a lot of coordination that goes into that. So huge hats off to our advancement team and our coaching staff. Coach McKenna really spearheads that as well as the kids. The kids do the bulk of the work to be able to do that.

So it's an organized effort in order to make those opportunities happen. But they really are special. The kids remember them. The things we got to do were much more than football. Here with Paul Manfred, the Gonzaga Prep athletic director, as we gear up on the pregame show for G Prep and Ferris at the top of the hour.

Paul, obviously football, always a standout sport here at G Prep, but what else is going on in terms of fall sports with you guys this year? It's a busy fall. Tonight is our prep pride night. So it's our version of homecoming where we've got a little fair and carnival out front on the other side of the school. There's jumpy castles, face painting, all the snacks.

You can all get snacks you can want. And it's a beautiful night for it. So a real festive atmosphere out here tonight. So expecting a lot of folks as far as our fall sports go. Really, the big thing I've noticed is the number of kids that have turned out at all levels, from freshman C squad all the way up to varsity.

We have more kids, it seems, out this year than we've had in years. And so that's a tribute to kids just wanting to be a part of something, it seems. And we were talking with the Mead athletic director, John Barrington, about this on our broadcast last week. It seems like for the first time since COVID people are really back to getting a ton of after school activities. And then the kids are really showing out for it.

They are. And, you know, I think, you know, being away from really the kids are a part of something and they're desiring to be a part of something, you know, feel, feel a part of their commute, their school community. And they're doing so in sports. And I think the schools have responded in providing that opportunity that is more of a place of belonging than just volley soccer or whatever the sport may be and any non sports things you want to pitch that's going on here at G Prep the next couple weeks.

You know, we've got our big fall play. The play, the play that went wrong is coming up in a couple of weeks. And so they finished up auditions last week and so they're starting rehearsals. So we've got, we've got a lot going on. The beginning of the school year is always a lot going on.

Ferris Saxons at Gonzaga bullpups. Both of these teams tonight coming in with a one and one record trying to get on the right side of the win column. It is a beautiful evening. Both teams are out on the field. Nice crowd for the PUP Pride ceremony celebration in place of the Gonzaga Prep homecoming this year that we just heard from the Gonzaga Prep athletic director Paul Manfred in our pregame show interview a moment ago.

But once again at the top of the hour we have and Gonzaga Prep coming your way here on 700 ESPN and 105. 3 FM. Meanwhile we have a bunch of fun week three games around the rest of the Greater Spokane League. So let's tell you what else is going on tonight. Freeman at Rogers getting started early, then Cheney at Central Valley.

Cheney has played both of these teams already. Came up on the losing side. East Valley will play Clarkston. This is a fun game. University High School at Post Falls over on the other side of the border.

The other game that might be sneaky competitive tonight. And we'll watch the highlights tonight on KHQ and SW X is Mead at Ridgeline. And to talk a little bit more about that game, let's bring in the great coach Adam Shackelford here onto the pregame show. Coach, we have two fun games up in the Mead district tonight. Meade out at Ridgeline, a team that has gotten better since they introduced football.

Also Mount Spokane at Lewis and Clark. Those are fun early season games. Well, I think anybody who knows the situation in Central Valley when Ridgeline opened up probably just could be a matter of time until they got things going. These are kids that have played together three years, start off very young. They've got some upperclassmen now.

They're very well coached. I think that's going to be an interesting game. Mount Spokane and lc, you know, early in the season, you never know. But you know, LC doing some good things this season and Mt. Spokane year in and year out, just a very tough program and very well coached.

Mount Spokane coming in this year. The scouting report has been that they have got a great quarterback, a great halfback, a great receiver, but the defense could use a little bit of work. And even though Lewis and Clark has not been in that top tier of the Greater Spokane League the last couple years, it seems like they've always had a couple skill guys. So Elsie might at least be able to put a little fear of God into them, right? Well, they've always got good skill guys.

They've graduated a few and they're going to probably have some new ones that they're going to roll out. Scoring 40 points against Ferris, you know, in, in week one shows that they could certainly put light up the scoreboard a little bit. But Mount Spokane, you know, outstanding program. I'm sure defensively they'll get it figured out. They always have the ability to score offensively until they do, no doubt about it.

So those are the two other big games happening tonight. Meet at Ridgeline and Mount Spokane at Lewis and Clark. The last GSL game the night on our scoreboard is Sheetle park out at West Valley here in week three. So again the games Freeman, Rogers, Cheney, Central Valley, East Valley, Clarkston U. 3 FM. I'm Greg Talbot joined by the great coach Adam Shackelford, ready to broadcast this game for you in just a matter of minutes. Time to get to our keys of the game in this segment of the pregame show is brought to you by State Bank Northwest in Children's Choice Pediatric Dentistry. Okay Coach Shaq, so obviously coming into this game, Gonzaga Prep, although they've lost a bunch of guys, they are still the clear favorite tonight. Ferris is a smaller team, they've got great skill guys but Gonzaga Prep will be Gonzaga Prep.

This is a team that is made deep runs into the state playoffs the last couple years. If you're the Ferris Saxons, what are your keys tonight to at least try to keep this game close? Well, I think the biggest thing is you try to keep this Gonzaga Prep offense off the field as much as possible. The three and outs, the things that teams that struggle early in the season like Ferris has at times the 15 yard penalties, don't dig yourself a hole. Make sure that your offense is staying on the field and playing a little bit of field position.

I think the second thing, if you're going to play three quarterbacks, we expect to possibly see three quarterbacks tonight. You're going to have to find the guy who's got the hot hand early and then stick with him and hopefully he can put some points up and move the ball for you. And I think the third thing is tackling tonight. There's no secret that prep is going to come out and run the football. They run the veer, they're going to run the dive, they're going to run the quarterback if the quarterback makes the right read.

It's a very assignment football defensive scheme that Ferris has to have. Can they do it tonight against the Bullpups? Coach, one of the notoriously, and it's been this way for 100 years in terms of American football. One of the hardest things to do is be playing all these spread teams week in, week out, play these I teams, these multiple formation teams and then all of a sudden you have to learn to play an entirely new style of defense against the option.

How do you train high school kids to do that that fast? It's an obstacle it and any coach that says it's easy is lying to you because you know it's the reason teams like army and Navy and College still do what they do. And you see every couple years those teams compete in games they probably shouldn't compete in. Notre Dame, USC over the years, those kind of games, because it is tough. You're asking young kids to not only do what they're told every time, but believe what they see and stay inside the responsibilities.

And the minute you don't is when they break the big run. They're very good play action because they run so much. They like to use those slot receivers up the middle of the field off the play action off the veer offense makes it very difficult. So that's the Ferris Saxons. What about the home team and the clear favorites, the Gonzaga Prep Bullpups?

Well, I think, you know, you need to win a game that you're expected to win and sometimes that's tough to tell a young group of kids. Listen, don't look at Ferris record, don't look at what they're doing offensively. We're not going to care who's at quarterback for them tonight. We need to go out and do our job. They had a long trip last week.

They traveled probably all day Sunday or Monday, probably a Shortened week of practice, probably a different schedule. How do young kids handle that? My guess is the coach, they have them prepared. And then the other thing is limit penalties when you run the football as much as you do the holding calls, getting yourself in third and long when you're not a passing offense, those things are obstacles too that you need to overcome and stay away from.

No doubt about it. So those are our keys to the game here on the pregame show. Once again, these were brought to you by State Bank Northwest and Children's Choice Pediatric Dentistry. Coach, one last question about this Gonzaga Prep team. Obviously they're the favorite tonight.

Ferris is a much smaller team. They've been playing together not nearly as long. But for Gonzaga Prep as well as they played in the second half against Englewood last week, they kind of got their tail handed to them. How do you, how do you coach up a group of young kids who do not have a lot of varsity experience, especially to bounce back after something like that? Well, I think you talk about the experience of the trip they got.

They had an opportunity to go down as a locker room and as a team to experience something a lot of high school kids never would. And that's fly to a football game and play a football game in a different state. Obviously we listened to the athletic director a little bit ago talk to us about how they experienced some really cool things. You know, they didn't win the football game. They did play well in the second half.

You also find out a lot about your football team. Can they bounce back? Can they forget about that? The bottom line is that's a non conference game. Their goals are still intact for the season.

Yes, undefeated is is not there, but the chance to win a state championship here in Washington, a GSL championship and all your home games are usually goals for for prep. They still have an opportunity to do that. We'll see if they can get that started tonight as they look to bounce back after that loss to Inglewood in California a week ago. The Ferris Saxons at the Gonzaga Prep Bullpups and a pretty full stadium starting to pack in for this GSL game as the Bullpups are finally back from their road trip a week ago down in Southern California. Greg Talbot joined by the great Coach Adam Shackelford to break this one down for you. Coach. Let's start with Gonzaga Prep.

This is a team that beat Cheney pretty easily in week one 34 to six, then went down to Inglewood last week and lost 32 to 19 early in the season. This is going to be a big couple of weeks here for their new quarterback Bodhi Stafford. He is 6 foot 4, 185 pounds. He's a first year starter. He's got the weight of the world on his shoulders.

He transferred in two years ago, so he knows the offense although he has not been playing it his whole life in the option, but he's still getting his feet under him. And everyone around this program seems to think that success is going to come. Everything I've heard, you're absolutely right. And the thing is, you know, typically when you run this offense, your field general has to be your quarterback. He has decisions to make once that ball is snapped that's different than any other offense.

He's really reading two people, three people at times. He has to understand what he's doing and on any given play that ball can go to three different people or he can keep it. So very important so far has done a great job. He takes care of the football, which is important. And as this offense finds their identity, they all know that this offense isn't going to change.

This is what the bullpups have run for years. They're going to continue to learn this system and I think just get better and better as they always do throughout the season. Prep has three people out there catching passes. Jaden Sardo, Isaiah Dawkin and then a great tight end. And Wentworth Scrivener.

They do have three running backs, Carson Flynn, Jonah Keller and Nate Monot plus three others that will get occasional touches. But coach Jonah Keller, someone you and your family know well, what can you tell us about that running back? Yeah, my kids have grown up with the. We've known the Keller family a long time and my sons have grown up with Jonah and tremendous athlete. Has had a couple 70 yard runs this year.

I believe he's averaging 77 yards a game over 100 yards last week in Englewood. Just, just a sophomore and it's going to get better and better. Has been taking some reps at quarterback as well in some junior varsity games. Is my understanding might be the guy there the future right now playing that slot and running back position, doing a great job. Let's take a look at this Ferris Saxons starting lineup in terms of their key players.

Interestingly, they've run three quarterbacks so far in the first two games this year. Sam Markham also plays receiver but he takes some snaps and he's a senior. Their main signal caller has been a junior John Olson leading the team in complete passes and passing yards. But Teddy Osborne, a sophomore quarterback who's also gotten some touches. So coach early on, like you said, they got to find the hot hand and see who can do best against the pups in the first quarter.

Well, and playing three quarterbacks is not ideal. You have to make the best of your situation. You know, usually, and we've talked about this a little bit, when you have three, there's a reason why you're playing them all. Either you're trying to figure out who the hot hand is really and go with it, or you just think they all provide something in the game that you're going to need to try to have success. And you're kind of creating one quarterback with three bodies.

I don't know yet what that situation is. We're going to find out as that unravels during this football game, but I know this is important. Will they take care of the football? Will they take third downs and get first downs out of them? Will they keep themselves out of trouble and can they get in and out of the huddle or in and out of the no huddle offense effectively against this G Prep defense?

We're so happy to have you with us tonight for our Week three broadcast of the Arby's GSL Game of the week on 700 ESPN and 105. 3 FM. I'm Greg Talbot along with the great former coach of the Shock, Adam Shackelford.

As the Bullpups and Saxons get ready to go off, looks like Ferris is going to be the one to boot it away. And the Gonzaga Prep bullpups as they get ready to take the field from the far side and their classic white helmets, white pants and navy jerseys with white lettering are on the far right side of the field. They will receive and the Bullpups will get the ball first. Ferris, meanwhile on the left side of the 50, they're in white uniforms with the red lettering plus their red helmets and red pants. So white and red against blue and white tonight.

Ferris and G Prep, longtime GSL foes, decades playing against each other and they are back at it tonight here at Gonzaga Prep. Full stands, especially a full student section for G Prep out across the way. Nice crowd for this one. Ferris has it right on the 40 yard line. Here comes the kick.

It's up in the air with the right and here comes Gonzaga Prep to run this one back from the 10 yard line. Big head of steam for Jonah Keller. He's on his feet, the 40 to 50. Are you kidding me? He's spun down by maybe the kicker at the Ferris 45 coach.

That did not take long. Sure didn't. Great blocking. Just ran a middle return and an outstanding block by two or three bullpups in the middle and it doesn't take much of a crease to get the young sophomore going there. He found it and what I love about his returns is he is all straightforward.

There Is no right to left movement. He's going to find that hole and he hits it with speed. All right, so Gonzaga Prep takes over at the Ferris 39. A 39 yard field to work with. Interestingly, for their first play of the night, they come out of the shotgun.

Bodhi Staffer, their new quarterback is back. Here comes the snap. It's a fake play. Action throws deep down the left sideline. He's got a man wide open.

It's Isaiah Dawkin and he is wide open for a Gonzaga Prep touchdown on the first play from scrimmage. A 39 yard play action strike and the bullpups are on the board. How many seconds into this game? 15. It's six nothing.

Gonzaga Prep. Well, you mentioned it. A shotgun look. A little variation to what we've seen in the past. And when you're known for a running team, what's a great first play after a big kickoff return, how about a play play action pass with a vertical route down the left side.

Well, that was something in to kick it away for the pat. Is Wentworth Scribner also one of their tight ends? Low snap. No, it's a fake play. Action throw along the right side.

Caught. You have gotta be kidding me. Gonzaga Prep goes for it and succeeds on a two point conversion. Fake field goal. Making the catch Jacob Mitson, a defensive lineman.

Gonzaga prep on top of Ferris after one play from scrimmage, seven nothing. The Gonzaga Prep kick is out of the end zone, right to left across your radio dial. So out come the Ferris Saxons here. Coach Shaq and we heard that they have been running three quarterbacks alternately this year. They have Sam Markham, they have John Olson, and they have Teddy Osborne.

So the question is, as they come out from their own 20 yard line on the left side of the field, the question is, who is it going to be calling signals for them out under center? It is John Olson. He is their leading passer on the year. They have a trips left set here from their own 20 between the hashes. After the kick, surveys the defense.

He's way under center, drops back, throws to his left. That one is hauled in and caught by Farris making the catch. Farida Law, one of the seniors, wide receiver, also defensive back. He goes to Gigas two ways. He hauls that one in, makes it up the sideline.

A gain of 11 and a Ferris first down. I like to play call on first down. You know, you just give up a big play and then you give up the two point conversion. You come back with a nice three step drop, an easy throw, the flat. You let your athlete get up field, make a play, break a tackle and move the chains.

That's a Damon Orthodontics. First down, 11, 15 to go here in the first quarter. Gonzaga Prep order leads by a touchdown after a touchdown on their first drive. Ferris trying to strike back after gain of 11. They've got a man in motion and Olson turns around, hands it off and that play goes nowhere.

That was a handoff to RJ Melton. He got driven backwards. Maybe a loss of two. Coach. Yeah, great job by that defensive front.

Linebackers fill in the gaps quickly. You know, under center, Ferris comes out an eye formation, two tight ends, a run heavy formation and G prep guessed right, they were able to pin their ears back a little bit, blitz those gaps and fill those holes quickly. Running on Gonzaga prep tonight. Considering the size of this bullpups team, despite how young they are, that almost seems like it's going to be a harder order than trying to pass on them. Coach.

Well, very athletic too. You know these young kids for them up front, very athletic, getting those gaps quickly. Second down and long, here comes the snap and we have a whistle Right away. False start on the offense. That'll move him back.

And Ferris shoots himself in the foot. No, wait, we have a timeout on the field. That's not that. That was not expected. Ferris calls a timeout on their first drive, they burn one fast coach.

Why would they do that? Well, probably a misalignment in a formation. A coach saw something probably up in the press box and, and something they didn't like. You know, this is an important series for Ferris. They came out defensively, gave up a quick score.

You don't have to score points in this drive, but you want to play the field position game. You want to get some first downs. If you do have to punt it away, make G Prep drive the whole field instead of shorten it. Gonzaga Prep only had a 39 yard field to work with after they ran it back all the way across the 50 on the opening kick of the game, which is brought to you by Papa Murphy's. So after the quick timeout, Farris comes back out.

Second down and nine for John Olson. He's got two receivers split to his right, one to his left. He comes out under center and in the backfield he's got Sam Markham. Here comes a second down play up the middle. It goes absolutely nowhere.

Prep needs him on the line of scrimmage. It'll be third down. Well, third and five. You know, this is probably a passing down. Look for maybe some play action.

Heel here. They've got to move the chains here. You got to think that a pass play with, with two medium runs on first and second down is probably, probably their choice. There are some teams in the GSL that really try to get back to the line of scrimmage as fast as humanly possible. And we've seen some of those the last couple of weeks.

That is not the Ferris Saxons. They are taking their time tonight. Third down and eight and flags coming in immediately as both teams get to the line of scrimmage. Well, that flag was thrown awful early. From the setup of this formation, I wonder if this is going to be possibly some kind of neutral zone infraction on G Prep.

They are marching it back to the left. That's going to be on the Ferris, whatever it is. Typically officials will give them time to get set. It must have been somebody over the ball to the point where they asked if they were set and they were in the neutral zone. So third down and eight turns into third down and 13 for the Ferris Saxons.

All of a sudden they're back at their own 25 yard line. They've got to get towards near the 40 if they want to pick up at Amen Orthodontics. First down here on their first drive. Nine and a half minutes to go in the first quarter. 9:32, Gonzaga Prep leading Farris 7 nothing.

They'll send Olson back out under center. One halfback, two receiver split to his right. He drops back, rolls to his right. Pursued. Pressure coming, pressure coming.

Rolls, throws to the near side. Off the hands of one of his receivers streaking down the sideline. Pass was intended for Hunter Johnson. It was off his hands, high and out of bounds. That'll be fourth down and Ferris will come out to punt.

Oh, interior pressure from that defensive line up the middle, forcing the quarterback out of the pocket. Having to make a tough throw on the run. A good job by him to throw it away and not make this punt any more difficult than it is on 4th and 12. All right, so Farris has to punt this one away. And that is Markham standing back at his own 10 yard line.

Here comes the snap. It's a good punt in the air, left to right, across your radio dial. Across midfield takes a Ferris bounce. It's down at the 35 yard line. All right, so as Gonzaga Prep takes back over for their second drive of the night with 917 to go in the first quarter, they get the ball back.

Here's your STCU touchdown drive. Recap from the first drive of the game. One play, 39 yards. It was a touchdown pass from Stafford to Dawkin. So here comes Gonzaga Prep again.

They'll have to work a little bit more here on their second drive of the game. They take over on their own 38 yard line. Stafford out of the gun, man in motion, drops back. Play action, throws deep over the middle of field, over through Scrivener, his tight end. I guess the good news for Ferris, coach, this time is that they actually did cover the deep man.

Well, when you come out and you get beat deep on the first play, you're going to have the coach in your ear the rest of the night reminding you to watch the play action. A good job by Ferris to adjust a little bit. Not fooled by the play action on that. And covering their men downfield. Second and 10 for G Prep.

One man split to the near side. Everyone else in that traditional option formation. This is a dive play up the middle. Still on his feet. A good handoff and a nice carry by Nate Monnett.

He's one of the tough new runners and the GSL coach. He's a junior. They're counting on him. They've always had good backs here and not to, not to confuse folks in the stands. Night shotgun doesn't change this offense any.

They're just backing the quarterback up a little bit. The reads are the same. The offense really doesn't change. Third down and two for Prep. They go back up the middle to Monet.

Ferris was ready for it, but not ready enough. He gets across the 50 to the Ferris 49. That's an amen. Orthodontics. First down.

It'll be really important tonight for these linebackers for Ferris to stay on their run. Keys tackle their responsibility. Because that ball can go to any of three people at any point. G Prep across the Ferris midfield. Here comes the snap to Stafford.

He turns and hands off left to Monet. He breaks up a tackle. He's still on his feet and he's into the second level. 35 yard line. 30 pushed out of bounds along the left side of the fields.

25, coach. That should have been a gain of water two. It ends up being a gain of man 25. Outstanding blocking on the exterior of the formation by their receivers. Springs that that ball carrier for another 1012 yards.

It's just an option play. He's going to read that in and if the end attacks, he's going to pitch it. And a good job by everybody on that left side. 8 minutes and 10 seconds to go here in the first quarter. Gonzaga Prep already up at touchdown.

Turning handoff again to Monet up the middle. No, instead it was a fake along the outside. They found a way to get at the dawk and he turns up field and gets down inside the 10, dives forward towards actually the 5. That was a great fake. And all of a sudden the bullpups are knocking on the door again after another demon.

Orthodontics first down. Nice wrinkle off the option. This time they run it with a counter step. They bring the backside guy in motion. He goes back to his original side of motion and they run the option that way.

A nice little wrinkle in this, in this offense. One receiver split to the near side for Prep. Inside the Ferris 5. Handoff to the right goes nowhere. Maybe a gain of 1 yard.

They went back to Monet. They've really been feeding him here on drive number one down here. You've got to make sure that your gap sound if you're Ferris on defense, really important in the goal line because a lot of times Prep is trying to run that football up the middle. You've got to occupy those gaps, get those linebackers to their spots. 7:15 to go in the first quarter and the clock is running.

Here's the snap. They'll run the option to the left. Pitch to Carson Flynn. He's around the corner. Touchdown Gonzaga Prep and it's 13 nothing as they score from four yards out with 7:13 to go in the first.

Well, the option at this point point really giving Fair some problems. They've made some nice plays up the middle tackling the bullpups, but the edge has really hurt them tonight. The correct read by the by the offense of G Prep getting that option pitch to the edge and great exterior blocking by the receivers. The PAT for the bullpups is up and it is good. Would you look at that.

Sturm heating since 1945 and we're just getting started. Gonzaga Prep 15 Ferris Nothing midway through the first quarter, the Saxons get the kickoff. They run it back to only about their own 15 yard line. 703 to go here in the first. Coach Ferris had a couple decent plays on that first drive, but all of a sudden they're down two touchdowns.

What do we learn about them? Their first drive out. Well, it's not time to hit the panic button. You know, you're down 14, nothing early, but you've got to make sure that you understand, hey, we could still be in this football game, but we've got it. We got to move the football.

We've got to have some success. We've got to build some confidence offensively that we can move the football. Ferris takes over from their own 15 yard line on the left side of the field, driving left to right across your radio dial. They send Olson back out there at quarterback. He hands off to Cortez.

Coleman only gets back to the line of scrimmage. Maybe a gain of one on the play. It'll be second down and nine. Well, there's. They're determined to run the football on first down, which is fine, but you might have to get more creative against this defensive line of, of Gonzaga Prep.

Very fast, very quick, get in those gaps quick. And they're just coming off the football a little bit faster than that Ferris offensive line at this point. The thing about Gonzaga Prep's defensive front is not only are they big usually, they're actually quite fast. So Melton now joins Olson in the backfield. Olson under center.

Two receivers split to his left for second down and nine. He turns, fakes a handoff. It's play action. He steps up in the pocket, he's gonna run and he rolls to his right, slides down at the 22 yard line. That'll be a gain of six or seven.

Looked like there might have been a hold on the play, but I'm not sure if we see a flag for it. Yeah, they're gonna. It's in the backfield. Yep. The right tackle.

It sometimes is tough to see these, these fairest numbers, but the right tackle kind of threw his guy to the ground and when you do that right in front of the white cap, it's, it's tough not to get called. No doubt about it. And the reason he was able to scramble that right of the pocket, coaches, is because that lineman was held. No doubt about it. Great pass rush.

And I think that defensive lineman's got to come off the field for a play because he lost his helmet as a substitute in here, here. But great pass rush, instant pressure, and really the only thing to do to stop a sack there was to hold 6:03 to go here in the first quarter. And Gonzaga Prep already leading Ferris 15. Nothing. In case you're just joining us, Stafford to Dawkin on the first play from scrimmage, a 39 yard touchdown strike.

Then Prep gets it back and it was a four yard option pitched to Flynn. He rushed it in to make it 15 nothing. All right, all of a sudden Ferris here back inside their own five yard line after that failed op, after that failed scramble and it ended up being a hold. Olson under center, he rolls out to his left off play action, throws to the sideline. That one is hauled in and caught by Sam Markham.

A nice little catch, a gain of six or seven yards. Oh, a nice rollout it. Sometimes it's tough to roll that way when you're right handed quarterback and throw back across your body. But a good job there. Oh, they're going to call this one back to you.

Got to be kidding me. I think their offensive line coach held two plays in a row in order to get Olson a little bit of space as the quarterback. I didn't see did they call a holding call? I'm not sure. But they're back at their own six yard line now.

They may have, may have said it hit the ground maybe. It might have been an incomplete pass but I didn't see an official wave it off. Well, either way it's third down and 15. Olson drops back in his end zone. They're going to run a screenplay.

Drums it off to his right. He's got Johnson, gets to the 10 yard line. Gain of about 5 yards. But prep was ready for it. That's going to be fourth down and whoever is punting for Ferris will have to do it in their own end zone.

One of the toughest things to do is a play caller and a quarterback is find a way out of third and very long from your your own end zone area. Sometimes just run a screen, maybe run a run or a draw, get what you can and try to punt it out of there to avoid a disaster. I'm back to receive. The punt at the Ferris 40 for Gonzaga prep is Luke Hills. That ball's on the air.

Makes the catch at the Ferris 40. Makes one man miss, makes two miss. Tries to get to the corner on the right. He's down inside the 30 toward the 25. Another very short field with Gonzaga prep to work with midway through the first quarter as they take over for their third drive.

They already lead 15 nothing with 5:06 still to go in the first. Well, we talked about in keys of the game and the nightmare has begun a little bit for Ferris and that's they have not moved field position. Not only are they not scoring points, they're giving up short fields to a very potent offense. And it is not going well for this defense right now. Gonzaga Prep has scored on their first two drives.

Here's the handoff up the middle for Prep. Once again they go to Monnett. He found a way to get between the tackles. He's got a mid sized gain, maybe five or six yards. Well, and that's what kills you when you play this team is the five yard gains.

You know, if you continue to average four or five yards a gain, you're going to continue to move the sticks, which continues to move the clock. And when you have a lead, it's tough to overcome that. Back up the middle to Monot. That ball is on the ground. The question is, who fell for it?

Ferris punched it out around the line of scrimmage. G Prep fell on it for no gain on the play. So third down and five coming up. But that is the first real sign of life we have seen from Ferris on defense. Good job stripping it out and maybe a little bit better job by number 64 there.

Looks like their, their left tackle there to fall on on the ball and secure it back for their running back. Third down and five for G Prep. Stafford out of the gun. Monatz with him in the backfield. They turn and look to the sideline and a flag comes out.

I think we're going to get the defensive end here for Ferris in the neutral zone. Remember in high school it's different than college and pro. Once you're in that neutral zone, that ball is blown dead. You don't have a chance to reset before the ball snapped. Once you, once you commit to that neutral zone, it's a five, five yard encroachment penalty.

And that is what the call is. They move the chains. It's a Damon Orthodontics first down that they gave Gonzaga Prep for free. Coach, they don't need help at this point. No.

And those five yard penalties add up very quickly, especially when you're down two possessions. Stafford in the backfield for Gonzaga Prep there at the fairest 12. They'll run the option on an inside pitch. It's to Jimmy Jerry Granger. He cuts up inside the 10 yard line, down to the 9, spins forward between the 5 and the 10.

Great run on the option. Second time they've run it. That ball's on the ground. It's loose. Ferris picks it up.

Saxons get it back. Big break inside their own 10 yard line. Well, two times on this, on this possession, the bullpups have put the ball on the ground. They got lucky the first time an offensive lineman was Was able to get it back this time. Ferris does a good job and says, you do it twice this series, we're going to get one of them a good job to maybe breathe some life hopefully into this offense for Ferris and see if they can commit to a drive.

All right. Ferris once again takes over at their own nine yard line. 354 to go in the first quarter. They trail Gonzaga Prep 15, nothing already after Prep scored on their first two drives. Olson under center again.

He turns off and it's a fake handoff. It's play action. He steps up in the pocket, he's gonna run past the 10, up toward the 15. That was a play that collapsed coach and he managed to get a couple yards out of it. That's not bad.

Oh, a good job of pocket awareness. He sees the breakdown in the protection. Instead of rolling right or left, which a lot of quarterbacks will do, very dangerous in your own end zone. He heads straight up the pocket in the middle and a nice little gain, bringing up second and almost four. Poor kid.

The pocket just keeps breaking down every time they try to pass. Those hands do a great job of getting up field, but sometimes when those defensive ends get too far up field, you can give up some space in the middle. And he took advantage. Second down and a short five for Ferris. Here comes the snap.

Quick dump off to the left side. That one is hauled in by Johnson. He tries to turn the corner, does a decent job. He's tackled around the 17 yard line, which might end up being just short of the name and orthodontics. First down it is.

It's going to be third and one for Ferris. They have not picked up a first down yet tonight on offense. Olson under center, two receivers split to his left, one to his right. He'll take the quarterback sneak up the middle and that's good to move the chains. And that'll be Ferris.

Damon, Orthodontics. First down. I'm surprised the prep didn't take a time out there. They caught Ferris, caught G. Prep not ready for the ball to be snapped.

They went no huddle under center, ran the quarterback sneak and prep wasn't even lined up correctly yet they were able to get the first down. Wait, they're moving these chains back and doing third down again. Must have been some kind of penalty on that play. We didn't see the referees say it, but Ferris goes back to their own 15. Third down and five.

Two receivers split to the left, one to the right for Olson. Saxons trying to keep their drive alive. Down two touchdowns Against Gonzaga Prep. Olson surveys the defense. Looks left, looks right, drops back, looking deep over the middle.

Throws a near side post to the sideline. It's intercepted. Intercepted at the 33 yard line. And that one is hauled in by Gonzaga Preps Kai Van Curler, the junior defensive back, big pick and once again a short field to work with for G Prep. Well, that ball never should have been thrown.

It's a, it's a deep zone coverage with safeties just waiting in center field. There you've got third and five. You got to figure out either the middle of the field or something in the flat quickly and let your, your ball carrier or receiver get yards after catch. When you float one up in his own coverage and let it hang in the air, it's going to get intercepted. Gonzaga Prep takes over at the Ferris 33.

They'll run the option to the near side. Pitch to Carson Flint. He already scored once on the option tonight. He's down inside the 25 towards the 20. Run out of bounds right near the chains.

Got a gain of 9 or 10. We'll see if the referees mark it a first down. Ferris Lucky there. They didn't get a late hit out of bounds. Got hit about 4.

Oh yeah, the referees with a generous spot for Ferris. So G Prep out of bounds earlier than we thought. Second down and four coming up for G Prep. Two receivers to the left, two to the right and one in the backfield here for Stafford, the quarterback. He throws a play action pass far to the right side.

His receiver fell over. Very nearly intercepted by Ferris. Keri Cage, the defensive back, had a look at an interception, but Stafford overthrew it and it falls incomplete. Their receiver just fell over. Yeah, it looks like he just slipped on the turf.

Good job by by the DB to get back and almost make a play on the football. All right, so after that botch play, third down and four for G prep. Inside the Ferris 30 yard line. Going for a Damon Orthodontics. First down.

Stafford out of the gun, turns and hands off to the right. It's monitor who they've been riding so far all night. He's down inside the 25, towards the 20. Man down on the field. Might be cramping.

Hopefully no injury. The question is how close did he get to the chains? I think he might have come up just one or two yards short. And it looks like there is a man down and injured on the field for G Prep. Unfortunately one of their offensive linemen.

And they'll send their trainer out. Coach, I think it's Their left guard and I would assume this is four down territory for the bullpups, but let's hope this young man is okay. A warm night, you know, you hope it's just some cramping and something that he can overcome here and get off the field. It's been the 80s and 90s the last couple days here in Spokane. Early season cramping is not unheard of.

But they're out there on the field. Meanwhile, let's give you a chance to catch up with where we are. 1 minute and 4, 47 seconds to go here in the first quarter on the RB's GSL game of the week. And here's how he got to this 15 nothing Gonzaga prep score. Stafford to Dawkin.

A 39 yard touchdown pass on the first play from scrimmage and then a option pitch run touchdown by Flynn. And they're helping him off the field for G prout. But he is able to get off limping off the field. Who is down there? That was Jonathan Hoffman, a senior offensive lineman.

Thankfully he's not being carried off. He's able to get off, but he needs some help, Coach. Well, and that, that leans towards hopefully cramps and something that he can get some fluids in him. Those are painful, you know, those calf cramps. Everybody's had one and they know how painful it is.

But when you're, when you're out on a football field, these, these young men are losing a lot of, of hydration. It's very important that they're over there getting water, trying to stay loose and hopefully they get that figured out for him. So they bring a new offensive lineman on for G Prep. 1 minute 47 seconds to go here in the first quarter. They're down on the Ferris 24 yard line for fourth down and one.

They're going to bring their offense out. Bodie Stafford, the first year QB takes a look at the defense. He's out of the gun. One man split to his right. They put a man in motion and check down to the near sideline.

Trying to get a new signal from their longtime coach, Dave McKenna. Stafford back to the line of scrimmage. Ferris stacking the box. Fourth down and one. Here's the snap.

Man in motion. He keeps it. Tries to go along the right side on the QB keeper. I think Ferris stopped them between the hashes and they did. What a big play for this young Ferris defense.

They force a Gonzaga prep fourth down. Coach, good job there. That time it looked like if he, if he pitches the football and I know they're just trying to get a yard, but if he pitches the football to Keller, he probably gets around the end again. This is a read it style offense, and if you don't make the right read and Ferris stays assignment friendly on defense, you know they can continue to try to get back in this football game by making big play plays like that on fourth down.

All right, well, good for Ferris. So they'll take back over after they force a turnover on downs by Gonzaga Prep. And they take over around their own 25 yard line play action pass rolling to his right once again as Olson, he throws down the near side. Looks like that one was hauled in and it was. Looks like that was Milton who did the damage.

That would be a big catch for Ferris if he hauled it in. Referees are talking it over, waving their hands all over. They're not sure what happened here. I think we have another young man down on the field here. It's tough to see because we're kind of shielded by Farris sideline.

Another sideline injury after what looks like it was a complete pass. Farris going to their knee and Gonzaga Prep does the same. And it looks like it's a bullpup player because here comes the trainers from their sideline and he's getting up now, too. And again, you just, you just think it's maybe some cramping as he jogs off here. That's number 35, Luke Hills.

Thankfully, he gets off completely on his own, so we'll see him back later tonight. Meanwhile, one minute and three seconds to go here in the first quarter. That was a complete pass by farris. Gain of 8 yards down to the near side. It was caught by Melton, so it'll be second down and two for the Saxons.

Yeah, just snuck Melton out of the backfield. We've seen him run some interior runs tonight. Snuck him out of the backfield and in a nice throw the flat there. So let's see what they do. They're on their right side.

Hash Mark driving left to right across your radio dial. Olson out of the gun. Two receivers split to his left. Big stacked formation, One tight end to his right, takes a look at the defense, turns around, hands it off. Milton is right there and he has met at the line of scrimmage.

I think that might have even been a loss on the play. Yeah, it's going to bring up third and. And about the same. Maybe you're right, A little bit of a loss. You know, we talk about the bullpup offense a lot and it gets a lot of attention.

This defensive scheme hasn't changed over the years much either. They're still going to play a lot of zone coverage. They've always had a good defensive line here. It's one of their statements they make defensively year in and year out. A good bigger athletic defensive line with very quick linebackers to get in the gaps and it looks like they have another good defense again this year.

Eight seconds of the quarter seven six Ferris has to get one more off. They do throw to the near side. It's caught by Law his second catch. At some point you got to think that dam is going to break. Gonzaga Prep starts at the Ferris 40 yard line. And here's Stafford on the first play. He drops back, throws right play action. Looking for Dawkin who's already got a touchdown catch overthrew him and that'll be incomplete.

Gizzard is with us for the first time tonight. Beginning of the second quarter. Ferris leading down to Gonzaga Prep 15 nothing. Well, and, and offensively a little bit different look. Throwing the ball a little bit more this year with with their quarterback than they have in the past.

Second down and 10 to go back to the ground. It'll be an option run. Stafford will keep it himself. Down inside the 35 towards the 30. Spins a man off, gain of 11.

That's the name of orthodontics. First down. But it's funny you say that, coach. As far as Bodie Stafford goes, compared to G Prep quarterbacks of recent history, a coach says he's really more of a field general and a passer. He's not as much of a runner as as Ryan McKenna was a couple years ago.

Well, and he's 6, 3, 6 4, you know, which is a different body type than they've had as well. You can see the ability to throw the football down the field. New first down for G Prep. Run right up the gut. It's Nate Mullet again.

Turns that into a gain of five. He is down to the Ferris, what, 23 yard line. And what they do so well is they'll pound that middle and they'll make those guys start creeping into the middle. And you get so concerned if you're their opponent about stopping that dive. And that's when they pull it, take it around the end and flip it to one of these great slot or wings as we call them in the veer offense on the option.

And you see him run down the sideline. Second down and five for prep. Here's the snap of play action pass. Stafford tries to get it off and he does. Dumps it off to the near side.

Caught by Keller. A loss of a couple yards though. Yeah, that time it looked like Keller just blocking and sees the rollout and he just kind of turns as that as that outlet option. But a nice tackle by the Ferris defense. All right, so third down and nine.

A lot of early scoring on their first two drives by Gonzaga Prep. But Coach, what's going on? Is Ferris making a stand? Is G Prep a little bit out of sorts? They have not quite looked the same their last couple drives.

They haven't. And you know, first quarters over, some big plays early. Now you have to settle down and get back inside your offense and do what you do well. Third down and nine, bunch formation, couple of men in motion up the middle. No, it's a sweep to the near side.

That's Flynn once again. He turns up field inside the 20, down to the 15 before he's pushed out of bounds. That is a big Damon Orthodontics first down rather. That was Jonah Keller, another big carry for him and a sophomore. And you know he's getting a lot of time on varsity.

He's played some quarterback as well, junior varsity. And in practice does an outstanding job. A tremendous baseball player here at Prep as well. 10:08 to go here in the second quarter. This one Stafford hands it off up the middle of Monit again.

He's their dive running back. He's got a gain of 3 or 4 yards inside the 10, down to about the 8 yard line on the right side of the field. Well, and we've talked about the running backs tonight. We talked about the quarterback. My favorite position we haven't talked about yet.

And that's the big boys up front. This offense only goes if those five and that tight end do their job. And certainly tonight they have opening up some big holes in the middle, getting to the edge, allowing that option to win work getting to the second level. And something a little different for prep this year we've seen is pass protection. Doing a good job of keeping that quarterback protected on some of their play action stuff.

Second and five for G Prep. They're down at the Ferris eight yard line on the right side of the field. Two receivers split to the left and they'll throw to the left. Great crossing pattern. Dawkin open touchdown on a beautiful slant pattern pass from Stafford.

But it looks like they might be waving this playoff. The referees are coming out with their hands over their heads and waving their hands all over. Well, I think it might have been something after. After the touchdown. I don't know which which side it's on.

We've got, we've got the kicker coming out for the extra point here. But I'm not sure I saw any referee put their hands in the air for a touchdown. What are they doing? And there is the announcement from the public address announcer. They have just now called it a Gonzaga Prep touchdown.

That was a pass from Bodie Stafford to Isaiah Dawkin. Their second hookup on the night. And out comes the PAT unit so important defensively down here to get inside leverage on those receivers that time. The Ferris defenders playing outside the PAT for prep. It is up and it is good and it is 22 nothing.

Early in the second quarter, Gonzaga Prep gets back to the way they looked at the beginning of the game. It's a three touchdown lead, 22 nothing.

Coach, how'd that happen? Well, mistakes by Ferris and offense and penalties. Just a lot of five yard penalties which add up very quickly. And they're playing a very good football team tonight who came out in the first two minutes of the game and made a statement, no doubt about it. So after the penalty that is assessed on the kick, still pretty normal field position here for the Ferris Saxons to work with as they come back down leading or trailing rather.

Gonzaga Prep 22 nothing. Here's the thing coach. Obviously Gonzaga Prep a bigger team, a stronger team, a faster team. I still think the I still think there's some stuff to like about Ferris that we've seen in the first half. Well, I think there's some of the perimeter athletes, some of their receivers have done a good job.

They catch the ball. Well, they just haven't strung together anything of substance yet where they, they can call a drive past the 40 yard line. Here's Olson under center, turns around and hands it off to Melton once again. Maybe a gain of one as he goes battering up the middle with his left shoulder. Not very much he can do.

Other thing we've liked a lot is there quick little outlet dump off passes to one of those receivers and they just kind of let him shake and bake. Yeah, and sometimes you just throw the uncovered guy. And I don't mean uncovered by there's. He beats his man sometimes. In this defense when you play zone, there's a, there's a slot receiver that if that linebacker is lined up too far inside, you just get it to him quick and let him run.

And they've done a good job of that at times, but you know, they need to find a drive where they're going to get past midfield. And even if you punt it, at least you make cheap prep go the whole field. No gain, no loss on the play. So second down and 10 for Ferris. Once again they'll try to run on the ground.

They give to Melton, he tries to cut along the right side and this time he is driven backwards for loss. Well, this offensive line needs to give, give them a chance to move the football right now. Getting beat, you could see a blue wave of white helmets getting across the football into the backfield. It's not just one guy here there, it's all four guys and a linebacker getting penetration in those gaps before these Ferris offensive linemen are getting off the the football. All right, so after the big loss, the referees are going to call this actually 4 yards on the pushback.

Ferris will have to go to the air again here. Third down and 14 back on their own 15 yard line on the right side of the field. 735 to go until halftime. Olson back under center, looks left, looks right, drops back pocket collapsing. He rolls to the left, turns downfield looking to throw that balls on the ground again.

And Gonzaga Prep has got it again inside the Ferris 15 for the second consecutive drive. The quarterback coughs it up and it's tough when you leave the pocket to your left as a right handed quarterback because to throw it a football you've actually got to stop, pivot and throw and you're just not going to have that kind of time with the relentless pressure that the full Pups are putting on this Ferris offense right now. All right, so a very, very, very short field to work with. Even by Gonzaga Prep standards. This time to take over at the Ferris 14 on the right side of the field.

Only 14 yards to go for Gonzaga Prep, who already leads 22 nothing with 723 to go here in the second quarter. Here comes the passes, the drop back to Stafford. He throws near side on a slant pattern. He's got Dawkin. He's down to the four yard line.

That'll be a gain of seven on the play. And again Ferris giving up that inside slant because the outside levers. You've got to get inside that receiver. You want to force him outside. It's a tougher throw for that quarterback.

Second down and short for G Prep. Down to the Ferris 6 yard line and the Saxon stack in the box. Stafford out of the gun. He turns in, hands off up the middle to Mana. And this time Ferris was ready.

Stop them at the five. Maybe a loss of one. It'll be third down for G Prep and that clock is going to run well. We talked about the importance of reading this defense. And that time if he pulls it and pitches it instead of tucks up the middle, Jonah Keller walks in the end zone.

You can kind of see the reaction, you know, as a quarterback, you know it as soon as you make a good choice. You know, as soon as you make a bad choice. And that time probably should have kept it and pitched it. Five yard line. Third down for G Prep.

Trying to go up. Another touchdown. They're on the option again. They pitch along the side to Jimmy Granger. He tries to turn the corner.

He's inside the five, got down to the three. Push out of bounds along the far side. He certainly didn't get the touchdown. The question is, did he get the name in Orthodontics? First down.

It looks like they're signaling they might. Yeah, they're going to give him the first down here. I thought they were going to measure him short. Yeah. So it'll be first down and goal from the Ferris 2.

So now it's just a matter of time probably for Gonzaga Prep. Stafford out of the gun. Looks left, looks right. Ferris brings blitz up the middle. They go.

It's Monot on his feet into the end zone. Touchdown, Gonzaga Prep. A gaping hole up the middle. Good job by center guard on that right side. And two yards you get.

You give G Prep first and goal from the two, and you're going to. You're going to get a run up the middle at some point. All right? So after that touchdown run by Monot, the score is 28. Nothing.

G prep with still just shy of 6 minutes to go until halftime, out comes the G Prep PAT unit onto the field. Bad snap. That one rolls away from the kicker. He's going to try to throw to the end zone. It's caught.

You have got to be kidding me. What a play by Gonzaga Prep. That wasn't even on purpose. That was the tight end scrivener who hauled it in. Stridner had actually fallen down before the ball was in the air.

3 FM. 542 to go in the second quarter. G Prep has been running all over the Ferris Saxons. After the quick little run back that was not bad from Ferris, they'll take over now on their own 30 yard line. About Coach, that's pretty good field position for them.

And I'll tell you what, even though he's coughed it up twice on the last couple of drives, I like John Olson at quarterback. I think he's got something there. I do too. And they've stuck with him the whole game. It looks like they're not going to rotate.

Maybe they found their guy and now it's about getting him reps. He drops back on first down. It's a screenplay, but it's busted up. He's got a scramble, rolls out to the right. He's met by Gonzaga Prep, stays on his feet.

He evaded six or seven guys, ended up only getting taken down for a loss of two. Coach, he did a lot of work just to get back to near the line of scrimmage. Yeah, he's running for his life. It's not. There are things going on in the back there, that back end of this offense that are not his fault.

Right now he's making the best out of the situation. He's got to get some more protection as Ferris offensive line doing their best. But not only is G Prep bigger, one of the things about their defensive line is they're always so fast, fast, well coached, always where they're supposed to be. And then doing that allows these linebackers to run free because he's offensive linemen never get to that second level. Olson a quarterback second down and 13.

He drops back, steps up, tries to get back to the line of scrimmage and can't taken down for a loss of three and a sack. It's going to be third down and 15 for the Saxons. Well, and it becomes very tough. We talked about the importance of staying out of third long because when you've got third and 15, these defensive linemen are able to pin their ears back even more. You become very predictable on offense.

They're thinking past. They're going to change their stance a little bit. They're going to get in that speed rush stance and they're going to bring an extra linebacker somewhere and try to put pressure on this throw. Let's see what Ferris is able to do. They've been putting pressure on Olson the last two drives.

He has fumbled on the last two drives for Ferris. But here he is once again between the hashes under center at the 25 yard line. Looks like movement on the offensive line that might push him back another five. We had a neutral zone infraction by the defensive end, but I do think the offense moved first. I think he was reacting.

It'll be interesting to see who they call us on. And they'll march back to the right. That's on the offense. All right, third down and 20 to go here for Ferris between the hatches on the right side of the field. Driving right to left.

Two deep safeties back for G Prep and it looks like Ferris is just going to keep it on the ground and they do Melton back to the line of scrimmage. Probably not any more than that. That'll bring up fourth down. Clock winds though, inside four minutes to go until halftime. Gonzaga Prep will get it back after the punt.

They already lead by 30. Well, and fans may say, well, why run the football of the middle on third and 20? Well, you're conceding, you're saying, okay, we're going to try to move the football with a kick and we're going to try to change field position. Maybe it's a bobbled punt, maybe we get a turnover, but right now there's not a lot of plays for third and fourth and 20 that are going to be successful. So it looks like Will Ferris will punt and then we'll mark him standing back at the 10 yard line.

He gets a decent punt off and takes a great Ferris bounce way past the man who was waiting for it for G Prep, who was Luke Hills. It rolls down to the Gonzaga Prep 35 yard line. So at least they're gonna make him go 65 yards this time, coach, instead of 15. Well, other than a big play on third down where you break a run up to middle, I think that's the best result. Sure.

For Ferris. That's the first time tonight they've been able to change field position any kind of way. You know, this is a team that hasn't gone past the 40 yard line on their side themselves tonight, but they've finally been able to maybe change if they can get a stop here for supplant. Now they have a chance to get the ball closer to midfield and they've changed that. All right, so Gonzaga Prep takes over on their own 35 on the left side of the field.

Driving left to right across your radio dial. Stafford out of the gun, throws a pitch along the near side, and again it may be three or four yards on the play. Ferris waiting on the right side of the line of scrimmage that time. Ferris creeping up again with their their outside safeties in their linebackers. Look for preps coaches up in that press box to signal down saying, listen, they're creeping up again.

Maybe a of piece play action pass run something by them, keep them honest. Might be in the repertoire here this series. All right, second down and seven coming up here for the bullpup. Stafford out of the gun, looks left, looks right, turns and hands it off up the middle. Monic goes really quickly and really aggressively past the 3530 yard line toward the 40.

See where the referees mark this. It looks like he came up just short of the Damon Orthodontics first down and he did got to the 40. He's got to get to the 42 or 43. And G prep wastes no time to get right back to the line of scrimmage. Farris stacks the box on third down and three.

Stafford out of the gun. Two receivers split to his left, turns and hands off up the middle. This is going to be very close for Jonah Keller. The question is, did he pick up the name of Orthodontics first down and he did by just the skin of his teeth. Nice run there.

We don't get an opportunity to see Joan up the middle very often, but that time takes the dive and the young sophomore hits the hole and does a great job of holding onto that football. New man in the backfield now for Gonzaga Prep trying to get a number on him. Someone's getting ready to go up the middle. It's Andy Agata, another new sophomore who they've been trying to get some touches to. He's to the 45, maybe a gain of one or two on the play that time, Coach, he tried to go right near the center and Ferris was right there.

Well, you're going to start seeing, you know, especially if this, this lead increases even more, you're going to start seeing prep, I think, roll in some guys and get, get some young, more young guys. Some playing time. 115 to go in the first half. 113, 112, 111, 110. Here's the snap.

Stafford throws left side high and off the hands of Scrivener. That great tall tight end just overthrew him on the sideline. And a little bit inaccurate throw. You would have put that ball on the inside shoulder, let him hit him in stride and let him run. He had a open receiver there, but more of an outside throw there.

Receiver had to turn awkwardly, try to catch it with one hand and wasn't able to. That'll stop the clock. 105 to go here in the first half. Here comes G Prep on third down and nine. They run a sweep to the near side.

It's Keller, he's on his feet. Past him. And the 40, the 30, the 25, the 20. Down the sideline, 15, 10, 5. Touchdown Jonah Keller.

What a play. It's almost a 55 yard run for the sophomore. He's got speed and he just showed was a foot race and it wasn't close. You know, they have several guys this team, once they turn that corner on that option and get Downhill, it just becomes a sprint. And I think, Jonah, that young man might be the fastest guy in this stadium tonight.

I think he just proved it. He might be the fastest man in the GSL. And he's probably only, what, 15 years old? Sheesh. Does he have wheels?

Here's the pat. It's up, it's good, and it's 37 nothing. Gonzaga Prep, your STCU touchdown drive recap. 66 yards, six plays, two minutes and three seconds. Ouch.

Well, I don't think radio does it justice of what we've seen so far. You know, just G Prep, they just reload every year. And that's just the bottom line. You know, they're a team that, you know, they have a system on both sides. You know, Coach McKenna does an outstanding job of running this program, and every year they just fit in new pieces.

You know, Ferris hasn't had that luxury. Hopefully they get things going with their new coach. Nobody here is not rooting for that to happen, but when you're established, you could just see a big difference in the way programs are run and the way things are done. Well, traditionally in the Greater Spokane League, around 40 points is usually when you get to a running clock. So coming up on the second half, I would imagine, Coach, we're going to hit that, that running clock pretty quickly and start to see a quick second half in probably the JV unit in for G Prep.

Yeah, they're already rolling in some sophomores. And this is a time too early in the season if they. Ferris still needs to figure out, you know, what kids they have and where they're going to go with the football and how they improve. All is not lost. It's early in the season, but they have to.

They have some questions that they need to get answered tonight. And one of the biggest one might be when you're down this much, what kids are still committed to, what you're trying to do and who's still out there fighting. I can promise you this, Olson is still out there doing the best he can. Oh, no doubt about it. That young man is trying to lead his team team.

He is playing hard. And they, and it appears they all are still at this point. But sometimes you find out a lot about your team when you're down, you know, three or four possessions. Ferris takes over on their own 20. Olson once again is the quarterback.

Wide wing, tee formation. And here's the play. He drops back, fakes a handoff, throws deep down the field into traffic and nearly through another interception. That'll stop the clock with 47 seconds to go in the second quarter, Ferris will be second and 10. They're down 37.

Guys just aren't open. They're playing that deep zone. They've done a good job of covering the men in their zones and they're just taking everything away. And when you can't run the football against prep and you have to throw the football, that's where that zone becomes very deadly because the pass rush is there and you're not going to have time to run around and try to make plays and adjust.

You've got to know where you're going with the first football and you got to know where you're going quickly. Second and 10 for Ferris from their own 20 yard line on the right side of the field. Milton there in the backfield with Olson. Here comes the snap. He's going to try to throw again.

Drops back, throws right toward the sideline. Great catch Holden by law, his third catch. He turned out of bounds around the 30. And that's the name of orthodontics. First down.

I like that, that hookups been good a couple times tonight. He likes going along. Yeah, and that's a great route, great route concept. A good call by by the coach and Olson can make that throw and he can make it effectively. And the other thing you have to remember about their quarterback situation is if you're going to play three quarterbacks, which they haven't tonight but they have in the past, you're having to get three quarterbacks reps during practice which means everybody's getting less reps.

The starter is not getting the reps. He probably needs to be as successful as he can be because you're still trying to figure out your quarterback situation. 41 seconds to go here they run another quick little out route to the right and once again it's lol. And he got a gain of about seven yards on the play. Second down and three coming up here for Ferris. I think they've got a winning combination there, coach. And the clock will run at 35 seconds. Yeah, I would love to see a foot race between Jonah Keller and this, this young man.

Both of them seem very fast. They have found something there. Just throwing it quickly uncovered, putting him on a backside out, moving him around which they have done a good job of. Now he's inside in the slot. Three receivers split to his left.

If you're a Gonzaga Prep fan at the end of 24 minutes of football bullpups 37 and the poor Ferris Saxons nothing. Coach Adam Shackelford, we knew that prep was the was not the underdog tonight.

They were certainly the favorite. But man, minus a couple small things that didn't go their way, they've looked great, especially for a new group of guys. It is a new group, a lot of new names, a lot of young players, but the same result so far. And you say, well, how can that happen year in, year out? There's a system in place and you know, the coaches, the coaches really haven't changed.

You know, they have the same coaches. They know the expectations and, and the quarterback is doing a good job making decisions. You know, a little bit different style than we've seen, but same result. All right, let's give you your scoring recap that we saw tonight. And boy, it happened right away after the Papa Murphy's kickoff changed the way you pizza.

It was a short little field and boy, did G Prep jump all over Ferris right away. Stafford, on his first play from scrimmage found Isaiah Dawkin. Not the first or last. Well, it was the first but not the last time it would happen even in the first half, huge touchdown pass, about 40 yards, first play from scrimmage. And coach, that established, at least to me, that Bodie Stafford is a real throwing quarterback for G Prep.

Yeah, you know, they came out, you know, all week the fairest players have heard. Stop the run, stop to run, stop to run. What a great call by the bullpup staff. And then they come back with a two point conversion. The fake field goal really got their student section in this football game.

What a positive way to open up the game in their home opener. On the second drive, they punch it in again. A touchdown run for Flynn off an option run to the left. So in the first half, we'll get to the rest in a minute. But first touchdown, deep play action pass.

Second, one option pitch the left that was in from, from about five yards out. Coach, they can just, they can just do it no matter what here. Oh, they can. And Ferris, you know, to have any chance of making this, quite honestly any kind of football game, they need, they need to start tackling better. They need to stop the outside run.

They've, they've kind of figured out at times stopping that inside run, but it's, it's really the outside perimeter runs that have hurt them tonight. Next one, they punched it in. It was another pass from Stafford to dunk. And they've hooked up for two touchdowns in the first half. This one was a strike from about 10 or 15 yards out, a great slant pattern over the middle to make it 22.

Then a Monot run made it 30 and a Kelleran made it 37 nothing. So two passing touchdowns, three passing touchdowns. G Prep coach does not always have balance. It looks like they do here. Well, they have balance.

And you know, you take, you take what you have personnel wise as a coaching staff and if you can tweak your system, become better in some spots, you do it. They haven't had quarterbacks in the past that could draw like this. No kidding. So why not open it up? The better you are as a running team, the better you're going to be as a play action team.

But U High just has some really great players. They've got an unbelievable tight end. I don't know if you've seen him, he's 6 foot 7. U High's got some guys. They do.

And you know, I've covered games in the past where they were playing some young guys. I think those guys have grown up a little bit. And you know that that school system has three, three really good football teams that always do a great job in the gsl. We have a couple other games going on tonight. Cheney at Central Valley.

That's fun. East Valley, Clarkston, Mead, Ridgeline, Mount Spokane, Lewis and Clark and Shadow at West Valley. And Dave Nichols from the Great Spokane Spokesman Review is tweeting out some halftime scores. Coach, this one might surprise you at the half. Ridgeline14, Mead nothing.

But it looks like Mead's quarterback, J. J. layman is out and Keegan Mallon, who's a running back is in at quarterback. So I don't know what's going on, but Mead is down two touchdowns to Ridgeline. I did not have that on my bingo card.

No, I really thought Mead would pull that one out. But Ridgeline, you know, an improving team. You know, you and I had talked about. It's just a matter of time before Ridgeline has a very good program and it's, it appears to be ahead of schedule. Other scores at or approaching halftime.

Mount Spokane 20, Lewis and Clark nothing. I guess we're not surprised that much by that one. Wow. Post falls 42, u high nothing. The Trojans out in force.

West Valley at halftime leading Shadow Park 13 nothing. And Rogers with a final 31 to 20 over Freeman. I am still floored by this Ridgeline Mead game. We gotta watch KHQ and SWX tonight to see the highlights of that one. I don't know what's going on.

Well, it doesn't matter what level football, if you're missing your quarterback, the can always get interesting and, and it sounds like to me defense is doing what it takes to stay in that football game. But they're going to have to find a way to score some points, obviously offensively, no doubt about it. And Coach, I this is usually in the time of the halftime show where I asked you or Paul Sorensen for our second half predictions, but given the fact that It's Gonzaga Prep 37, Ferris nothing. I think it's a pretty safe bet that the bullpups are going to hold on to win this one. So instead I'm going to ask you, if you were the Ferris coach right now, what would you like to see out of your guys in terms of stuff you can take away for the future in the next 24 minutes?

Well, I think you try to eliminate five yard, you talk about eliminating five yard penalties, changing field position, you're going to find out what your locker room's like. You know, what kind of resolve do your young men have? Are they going to continue to fight or are they going to lay down and and let the bullpups continue to dominate this football game? You can learn a lot by by losses. I I'm in my 30th year, 30th season of football.

I still learn something every year. You know, working for the arena team in Dallas, which I do now. You learn something every year and and a lot of times in games like this, Ferris is going to learn just as much as prep will. We'll take one last break and then we're back with the third quarter. 3 FM. 24 minutes down, 24 minutes to go. Ferris trailing Gonzaga Prep bullpups all over him 37 nothing. Coach Adam Shackelford I would ask how he got here, but we just did a scoring summary during the halftime show. The answer is Gonzaga Prep has scored pretty much at will.

They have, and field position has not been an issue. They haven't had to go far to do it and that's got to change. If Ferris says, you know, can Ferris come back and win this game? No, I don't believe they can. No.

Can they come back and see some things that they can do that they can build on for the rest of the season? Certainly capable of doing that. They've been able to throw the ball in spots. They've been able to do things. They haven't been able to protect their quarterback and stay out of five yard penalty situations tonight and change field position.

That has absolutely devastated their championship. And here's the truth about the Greater Spokane League, especially the last five years or so. There is an elite faction of teams. You have Central Valley, you have Mead, you have Mount Spokane, you have Gonzaga Prep. Nobody's expecting Ferris to be there this year but as long as you can find things to build on, you could be a team that eventually sneaks into a playoff one of these years if something doesn't bounce your way.

We like what Lewis and Clark did the last couple of years with their skill players. I think Ferris has some building blocks here and I look forward to seeing what they can do in the second half. Well, and there's some tradition there, you know when I first moved to Spokane in 2006, they had Connor Holiday quarterback. They were pretty darn good. I won a state championship and, and so there's, there's the ability to be good at Ferris.

People on South Hill love football. They love high school football. They just got to get it figured out. All right. And here's the G prep kickoff.

The Papa Murphy's kickoff changed the way you pizza to begin the second half. That one is out of the end zone and Ferris will take over at their own 20 yard line. Well, John Olson, the junior quarterback has looked awfully good when he hasn't been accidentally fumbling it away when he has been hit from the blind side. He's made good plays, he's made good rushes when his line holds. But coach, he's been running for his life a lot of the time he has.

And a junior, he's getting some valuable experience for the rest of his career at Ferris and, and but they've got to do a better job protecting him. The other thing they haven't been able to do tonight is run the football and it's so important because that also slows down a pass rush of those defensive linemen. All right, so here goes Olson under center. He's got Melton with him in the backfield. Here it comes, turns in, rolls out to his left.

He's going to throw down the sideline. That one is hauled in. It is caught at the 35 yard line. Who made the catch for Ferris? It was Sam Markham, his second or third catch of the night.

He's been very good. That would be a demon Orthodontics first down but I think we have a flag. I think they're going to call holding on the pulling guard look like it on the protection. I think he just kind of grabbed him and pulled him down and that's going to be deep in the backfield too. Holding is going to be a spot for foul.

It's gonna be half the distance from, looks like from the 19 yard line. So they're gonna move it back to just, just before the 10 yard line here. Yeah, well that did not take long. Before the poor Ferris offensive line. These kids have some talent, but Gonzaga Prep, there's more of them.

They're bigger, they're stronger, they're faster and just trying to keep their quarterback off the ground. They've been holding a lot tonight. Loss of 10 on the penalty. First down and 20 now for Ferris. Back at their own nine yard line.

Up the middle it goes. They turn and give to Melton. He's got a head of steam. 20 yard line towards the 25. What a great run.

A gain of man. 13 yards between the hashes. Very impressive. That'll bring up a manageable second down and seven on their longest run tonight in the second play of the second half and, and maybe a little bit of confidence instilled in that offensive line. We'll see how they react.

Well, that is good news for Ferris. Milton has looked good. We like their receivers, we like Markham, we like Johnson, we like lol. Things have been going well for them. This hasn't resulted in any points.

They trail 37. Nothing. Here goes Olson under center, drops back. Handoff up the middle. Very little.

Maybe two yards to melt and it'll be third down. Well, and I think one of the issues is, you know, when you talk about successful offenses, when you talk about programs that are established, you have an identity on offense. And I don't think right now Ferris has an identity. No. If you asked me tonight, the first half, are they a passing team or a running team?

I don't know if they're passing because they have to to or they, you know, it looked like maybe they tried to come out and establish the run early. It didn't work. Maybe they got away from it because of the score, but there's just doesn't seem to be a rhyme or reason or identity to what they're. They're calling at this point. Third down and six for Ferris.

Trying to pick up a first down on the right side of the field. Driving right to left. Here comes Olson. He drops back, looks deep down the sideline, lets one go near side post pattern. Overshot his man.

That's incomplete. He was going for Milton. That's a fourth down. And you say, well, why is it important to have an identity offense? Well, when you watch the bullpups player, you watch Mount Spokane play, you know what they're going to do, you know what they're good at, you know what their tradition is.

Just seems like Ferris hasn't figured it out. But the positive is I think you and I have both seen some players on that side of the ball to see if there are pieces there that they can form an identity with. They just have to continue to work. And I would say coach, not just players. As Ferris sends their punt unit out, they'll punt it away here on fourth down and six.

Trailing by by 37. I think the best plays they've run have been those quick five yard and out patterns or screenplays as they punted away. It's caught at midfield at the 50 yard line and that's where G Prep will take over. I think those fast passes, maybe if they started going out of the shotgun and they had kind of an old fashioned fast passing spread look, I think that could be something. Well, I couldn't agree more.

I think getting Olson, he does throw the ball well. His footwork isn't tremendous and getting out from underneath the center, something he still needs to work on as a junior. But if you put him in shotgun where he can catch the ball and make the quick read, I think you do help him a little bit. Alright, so first down and 10 for Gonzaga Prep. They still have their starters in this game.

They take over at the Ferris 48 yard line. Short handoff up the middle to Monet doesn't go very far, gain of 3 yards. They started this drive from the 48 yard line well and it's early in the season, you know, if people are wondering, you know, why would, why would they still have their starters in? Probably play the first couple series, the second half if things go well, probably start pulling guys out. This is a young football team.

They're still trying to find out you still have guys competing for playing time, stuff like that. They've got to figure that out with this film as well. Stafford turns and hands off. Up the middle to the left. It's Monot.

He powers Forward past the 45 yard line, down to the 44, 43. It'll be third and five. Coach, I think the answer might be they're looking to get to 40 and then get the running clock and then. Yeah, and you know, with the running clock and the gsl, which, you know, you got to think at some point we're probably going to get to. You know, it gives, it gives them a chance to get some guys out of there, rest some guys.

If some guys are banged up for whatever reason, get them out of there and get ready for another GSL matchup next week. Third down and four for G Prep. Driving left to right across your radio dial there at the Ferris 40 yard line. Got to get down to the 38 on this play for a first down play action pass throw to the near side, down the sideline. Overshot.

Here's going for jaden Sardo, the 6 foot 5 junior. He was streaking, just overshot him and that'll bring up fourth down and four. That's not really punting territory at the 40. That's probably go for it territory just based on field position, right? No, they'll bring up their punt unit.

That's nice of them. Well, I, yeah, I think they're going to get a punt here and try to pin Ferris deep. Ferris hasn't proven they can dig themselves out of this, this hole and, and why give them the ball in the 40 yard line where you can just punt and play what's been tonight, very successful defense. 835 to go here in the third quarter. Gonzaga Prep still leading Ferris 37 nothing.

Here's the high snap on four. Fourth down and five. The punt is away down to the Ferris five yard line and G Prep knocks it down at the one yard line. Jonah Keller, great kick coverage and Ferris is going to be pinned at the one. Well, I thought he was going to catch that on the, on the second bounce, he let it bounce one more time, took a chance and showed some of his baseball skills which he's an excellent baseball player as well.

Scooping that thing up and you say, well, why would they punt? Well, it was worked out pretty good because as bad as the field position has been tonight for Ferris, this is absolutely their worst case scenario. Ferris took over on their own one yard line. They got a playoff. Gonzaga Prep clearly jumped over the line of scrimmage and pinned them for a safety. The referees didn't care that G Prep jumped the line of scrimmage. So all of a sudden, Adam Shackelford, it's 39, nothing in it.

I know Ferris is not going to win this game, but if I were their coaches, I'd be apoplectic at that call. I think they're in shock. They're getting an explanation now. But yeah, I don't even know. I mean, G Prep looked like they were already in the end zone by the time the ball was snapped.

And I never even heard anything that the ball was ready for play. I'm not sure the ball was snapped. I didn't hear a whistle to start the clock. No, that was very awkward. Interesting.

Okay, so if you know the rules of football, and hopefully you do, not only does g prep get 2 points to make it 4,39 nothing, now Ferris also has to kick the ball back to G Prep. So it's 39 nothing. Bullpups. The Ferris student sections and parents here on the near side of the field at Prep are absolutely stunned. There's the kick.

It's in the air, right to left across your radio dial. Fielded at the 35 yard line. Fergonzaga Prep running to the near side. On the return goes Jacob McClelland. He got across the 50.

Another short field for G Prep leading by 39. Well, another great return too, and not a bad kick. But boy, Prep, you could tell they work hard on their special teams as well as a phase of the game, an important phase of the game. We've seen great kick returns tonight, which means great blocking. We've seen a fake PAT throw, We've seen a bobbled snap which you never want.

But the heads up with a tight end to sneak out into the route. They throw another two point conversion. Just a sound night in all three phases for prep. G prep takes over at the 46 yard line of Ferris. Their starters are still out there.

They'll run the option along the near side, past the 40 yard line. Then shoved a little bit backwards on the option play along the outside. That was Jimmy Granger, his fourth carry that time. Stafford took a kind of a late shot, a legal shot. But you know when you're running that option, you are able to get Hit and he pitched ball a little bit late and took a, took a little bit of a hit and he's back up and he's going here.

Gain of two on the play. After the Granger option pitch, it'll be second down and eight for G prep. Clock is running 737, 29, 728 to go here in the third quarter. It's a handoff up the middle. Monot gets toward the 40 yard line.

Gain of man, I don't know, three or four yards on the play. It'll be third down and about three. Stafford rotating his shoulder there a little bit like he may be banged up. You look, Stafford's taking a couple hits the last few place well and in this offense you're going to a quarterback because you're having to make split second decisions. And the longer you hold it before those decisions, the more you sell what you're not doing in this offense.

And you're going to take some hits. Which is why typically you don't see a 6, 4 young man in an offense like this. But he's done a very good job tonight. Third down and four for G Prep. They'll run the option to the near side.

They pitch and turn it up field. It's Keller, 30 yard line and he's got space. 25, 20, all alone. Touchdown. Jonah Keller down the near sideline.

His second touchdown run of the night. And G Prep is running away with this one in the third quarter. It's 45 nothing pups. Well, I'm still waiting for Jonah to run full speed because it looks like a jog out there. An excellent job and you only get that when you have great blocking.

Gonzaga Prep kicks it away and Ferris will take over around their own 20 yard line as their offense marches back out.

And the question is here, with 62524 to go in the win quarter, is their running clock. And now there is Adam Shackelford. We thought so. So we might get the rest of this game done in a hurry. Well, you know the thing with prep, offensively they run the ball so much.

Their games are usually quick anyway. But yeah, a running clock here, I think you're going to start seeing them substitute some guys in. Two deep safeties back for G Prep on defense. Ferris takes over on offense. Olson comes to the near side, dumps it off in the slot.

It's to going caught by Markham. He spun down for a gain of five or four around the 24 yard line. That's a great little play. Yeah, it's been good for him all night. Something they need to continue to go back to and, and you know, and now you try to get out of here.

Keeping Olson upright and healthy. I don't think you take any chances downfield. No, I think you make sure. I think you found your guy to lead this team. I would say so.

And I think you need and and the score is ugly. But he has not played poorly tonight in my opinion and he's a guy that I think these coaches can work with. Two receivers split to the right. They put one in motion. Second down and five for Ferris.

Olson takes a look at the defense, turns, fakes, handoff, rolls right, but he is all over with pressure. Throws down the far sideline. It's caught. What a great catch. It's Melton.

He's past the 35 yard line for a big Damon Orthodontics first down. Hey, good for Ferris. Yeah, nice, nice pitch and catch. Nice throw on the run on the bootleg there and, and you know, again has found something that worked. Attacking the sidelines has seemed to be good for them tonight against this tough bullpup defense.

And I got to admire this too, Coach, you and I have been remarking all night the Ferris student section and cheerleaders. Despite the fact they're getting whooped here on first down and 10, they've been out in big numbers. It's been fun to see them. They've done a great job staying in this football game tonight. All right, first down and 10 for Ferris.

They'll drop back to throw again. And they managed to dump it off. They find Melton again on a little dump off pass. He's up towards midfield. Not bad.

Gain a three or four on the play, it'll be second down. Well, we might have to recheck, and I might be wrong in my older age, but I don't think they've been past the 50 tonight. Oh, not an offense, they haven't. They have. No.

So you got to find little wins inside this loss and, and it may not seem like a big deal, but even doing that tonight is something they can hang their hat on. Olson under center, one tight end split to the left, one receiver each way and a half back in the backfield. And they'll go up the middle to him. The play goes nowhere. Milton ripped down no gain and might have lost some yards.

Yeah, Again, the interior line just getting penetration and, you know, rolling in some fresh bodies here. And that's always tough too, when your team down, you know, five or six possessions, they roll in. You've been playing all night, you been playing hard, and they roll in. A young man who hasn't played yet has a lot of energy and you have to deal with that as well. It just makes it really tough.

Third down and seven for Farris. Not a lot of guys in the box for G Prep. Olson drops back, pressure coming, throws far side, slant pattern. What a catch. It's LOL.

He's out of the G prep. Man, 35 yard line. He went fully airborne, fully extended. What a catch. It's an amen.

Orthodontics. First down. And that's the play of the night for Ferris. But it might be coming back. I think it's just an injury here.

Just an injury. Yep. Marking a first down here. What an outstanding catch. That was great.

A great throw as well. There was not a big window for him to throw that football in and the outstretched arms of the receiver. Just to a great job of bringing it in. Yeah, that was really great for Ferris. And all of a sudden, I'm telling you, this is a passing team, Coach.

They might run against smaller GSL teams, but they have, they've got a good little pattern here for these passing place. So now for the first time tonight, they're across the 50 yard line, down to the Gonzaga Prep 40. Three receivers split to the right here for Olson. Takes a look at the defense. Drops back.

He's going to throw again. He's got guys over the middle. He throws and he finds one. It's hauled in and it's caught. Merkin bobbled it, but made the catch himself anyway.

He's down inside the 20 for another Damon Orthodontics. First down. Outstanding concentration you always want to see as a coach. So we'll come up with it the first time, but good job of staying with it, making the catch and moving the chains. All right, good for these little fair Saxons.

Like to see some fight for them. And you like to see some belief on the offensive end. One receiver split each way in a big formation here for Olson. Two deep safeties back for G Prep. Handoff up the middle, cuts right.

It's Melton around the line of scrimmage. He's down inside the 15 and toward the 10. As they inch closer to that end zone, you could see a little bit of confidence with the big boys up front. Some of the receivers making some plays now. Olson feeling a little bit more protected, moving the football, having a plan and executing it.

Yeah, that was a gain of eight. Second down and two for Ferris. They trail 46, nothing, but they're sniffing the end zone potentially for the first time tonight. Here comes a quick pass off to the left side. It's Loll.

He's down inside the 15, not quite to the 10. Very short gain maybe of one on the play. It should still be third and short for Ferris. And when you throw those quick passes and screens, you've got to have great blocking on the on the outside there on the perimeter. And that time the corner for the Bullpups.

Able to sneak through and make that play. Third down and two for Ferris. They trail big, but they're looking for their first points of the night. One receiver split each way. Big wing formation for the Saxons.

Olson drops back under pressure immediately. And down he goes. Man, that was a great play on defense. A bunch of guys got to him for G Prep, but first in there was Luke Schmidt and he had a guy coming open on the right side and he was dropping back to throw there and just getting ready to get rid of it when the protection broke down.

Just never been comfortable tonight in that five step drop. The only success they've really had is the quick game screens and able to roll him out to his right and have him throw in the run. Looks for them to come back to that here in the fourth quarter. Teams run off the field. Gonzaga Prep and even though Ferris didn't score on that drive, that was easily the best thing we had seen from them all night. Well, it was and they've had, they had some success there. Just again breakdowns when they needed the most. They need a play on fourth down and not able to protect.

On third down there they had a receiver coming open not able to protect. They need to find a way to get their quarterback who I think can do it in the GSL or time to throw this football. Alright. So out comes Gonzaga Prep with a 46 point lead. One quick little handoff up the right, gain of one or two on the play.

It'll be second down here from the 26 yard line. The question is and I guess we'll find out right now who's out there for G Prep. Is it starters or is it the second team here with a fourth quarter running clock? We will see. Well, it appears they have not made a change of quarterback yet.

Well you know Bodhi staffords in his first year as the QB1 on varsity here for Gonzaga Prep. I'm not surprised actually they might like to get him a little more time running this offense in a real game situation. Right. Here it comes, second and nine is going to keep it and run a pitch to the near side on the option Turning up field. That's a good run down to the 26 yard line.

Taking the carry for the first time tonight. Hughes Neon issue, third down and eight. Haven't seen a lot of third and long tonight from the bullpups. The difference between that maybe years pass and and this year is you can rely on staffers arm to throw throw the football and the clock will run inside 10 minutes to go in this one. Already on the running clock.

Third down and eight for the bullpups. They lead by 46. And Gonzaga prep does bring in a new quarterback here. It's aiden Patterson, the 510175 junior. He hands it off up the middle.

It's up to the 35 yard line and that's a new Damon Orthodontic. Six first down. And now G Prep has the backups in in the backfield though still. Carson Flynn who had a great touchdown earlier looks great. Yeah, absolutely.

And some of these young guys that aren't getting on the field every day but still practice hard each day with the varsity get a chance to play in front of their parents and, and getting some, some live reps and, and an opportunity to get on the field. First down and 10 for prep. They run the option balls on the field and one of their receivers fell on it and picked it up for a loss of 2 or 3 yards. Trying to run the option there just pitches it a little early and a little bit too far in front of the pitch man. And those are things that, that you need to continue to work on in practice.

And when you're the backup quarterback you. You're not getting a lot of reps. These are your Opportunities to get better and run this offense. Second down and 13 here for G Prep. After the fumble that they recovered, they'll run the option again.

Turn it up field. It's Flynn to the right. Down he goes. 40, 45, 50. Chased out of bounds at the Ferris 45 yard line.

But it looks like we have a flag in the backfield. That'll probably be holding on the offense. That coach allowed him to turn the corner. Yeah, you know, when you're out on the edge there, you're kind of exposed. You're on an island and if you hold, there's no way to hide it.

You're good. You know, you got the sideline judge and the head official are going to see that. And it's tough not to throw the flag when it's obvious they'll march that one back and the clock will run. The running clock has us now down inside eight minutes to play on this one. G Prep 46, Ferris nothing.

Not sure if you can hear on your crowd microphone there leaning out the window, but that's the Gonzaga Prep student section still doing their organized cheers and chants in jumping routines in unison, coordinated in the fourth quarter of a 46 nothing game. They are not messing around here at G Prep. And here's the snap to Aidan Patterson. He drops back and throws to the right side over through his man. Yeah, just kind of a wheel rod out of the backfield off that option.

Look. And just overthrew. Had it. Had a ball carrier open or receiver? Excuse me, Open.

Just overthrew him a little bit. And this could bring up a very long third down. It wouldn't surprise me if you just see a dive here and punt the football away. 3rd down and 22 for G prep after that penalty and then that incomplete pass. But the clock has now wound us down inside seven minutes to go.

6:43, 6, 42, 6, 41. Second and almost, rather third and almost 25 now for Gonzaga P Prep. Up the middle they go and nothing happened. In fact, Noah's play action. But a sack for Ferris.

That's not bad. No. And even with the punt here, probably get the ball around midfield in some of their best field position of the night. Well, they'll have to punt, but Ferris will potentially even get this thing near near midfield, which would be their best starting field position of the evening. And then for the next, what, about six minutes, the fair Saxons will try to at least pick up some points against these G Prep bullpups.

G Prep sets a punt from the 20 down to the five on the snap ball is in the air. Faris set to return around the 40, but G Prep's all over it. Wow, what a G Prep bounce down to the 30, the 20 near the 15. An unbelievable field flipper. Coach.

Yeah, you've got to come up and catch that punt, even, you know, a fair catch because once that ball bounces, it's, it's typically not going to bounce in your favor and certainly a great role there. But you know, if you just fair catch it, you're protected and you're probably going to save yourself about 20, 25 yards. Well, that's going to be a long way to go for Ferris. They were hoping for the ball around their own 45 or maybe even dare they dream midfield. They're going to take this ball from their own 16 yard line on the left side of the field and listen to the Ferris student section.

Man, they've had fun this whole night. Big crowd here for the away team, the Ferris Saxons down at G Prep. Starters back out there for the Saxons. Here goes a handoff up the middle. It's Melton.

Turns off to the right, gets three or four yards out of it as you cut around the top tackle. And now down with inside five minutes to go. The clock continues to run. This might be our last drive of the night. Yeah, with a running clock here, you got to think that this is probably going to be about Ferris, his last opportunity here on offense.

But yeah, a great crowd tonight. You know, we have the, the new stadium opening at some point this season and Prep will still play their games here, but Ferris will be probably play some more games down there and. But they certainly show that they're going to show up on the road. They'll pitch it along the left side. Once again it's to Melton and this time he's taken down for a loss.

Yeah, it's going to be interesting, Coach. It'll be the first time whenever this new stadium opens downtown that they're not going to be playing a bunch of Thursday and Saturday games. It'll be nice for these GSL teams to no longer be playing four o' clock games or be playing at meat or something. And you know, the double headers go out the window, I assume still. And, and you know, if you haven't had a chance to go down and see that stadium, it's, it's pretty darn impressive.

It's coming along. I know they have an open house. I believe on the 30th of September they're going to allow people to walk through there and and what a great addition to our already great downtown by the arena. I spent obviously years in the arena working there and coaching football. And you've got the podium and now this outdoor version venue that's going to attract things in the future and just continue to make downtown Spokane what we think is a tremendous city.

First down and 10 for Ferris. Taken over from the rather for here comes the play. First down, it's on the ground. Gain of about 3 yards on the play. Give credit to the Gonzaga coaches making sure they're getting everybody in tonight.

You see guys rolling in and out. Yeah, that's nice. You know, showing good sportsmanship, not keeping your starters in. Of course getting some rest for your starters is valuable as well. Yes, a G Prep back out on offense from the 15 yard line.

Not a whole lot further to go. Handoff up the middle. One of the backups down inside the five yard line. That's Isaiah Haskell. School, a sophomore running back.

G Prep looks like they might be able to punch it in here one more time. And that's the Damon Orthodontics. First down, it'll be first and goal. Well, we'll see if Ferris can hang tough here and maybe keep mouth the end zone here and have something to hang their hat on here in the fourth quarter. Not quite enough time left to count on the clock to do that for you.

215, 214. 213 to go. Under center, new quarterback Sam Kincaid. Here comes the play. Run up the middle, down to the goal line.

But no touchdown for G Prep at least not yet. Inside two minutes to go. And appears inside the one yard line here. Gain of five yards on the play. Prepple try to punch it in on probably one more play.

145 to go. 144, 143, 142. Left side of the field to come out. Driving right to left, trying to punch it in. One yard from just around the goal line.

A lot of reps tonight for a lot of players for. For G Prep and a lot of things to fix for Ferris. And you know, it's. It's never as good as it seems. Never as bad as it seems in football.

And I know people get sick of hearing that, but prep's gonna find some things on film they're not going to like as well. They've certainly got some things they need to fix. They put the ball on the ground a little bit tonight, you know, and made some mistakes. They're going to get those fixed. These are two teams that have a lot of work to do to continue throughout the season.

53 nothing. Gonzaga Prep looks like they're ready to go the rest of the year after losing to Inglewood last week. Yeah, you know, able to put that loss behind them with a win. This was a conference win. You know those those games out of state and out of conference.

You want to win them, but sometimes the experience and the reps are great for preparing you for what I believe will be a tough GSL this year and they're off to a great start. I think you are right. So we are just getting started now on our RB's GSL game of the Week schedule. We have a great one coming up next week that might be made even more intriguing considering what is happening with one of these two teams, Lewis and Clark at Ridgeline and at the moment Coach Ridgeline is beating Mead as they head to the fourth quarter 14 nothing.

That would be one of the biggest GSL upsets in quite some time. Yeah, you know me not having a ideal quarterback situation it sounds like tonight and Ridgeline finding a way to probably stop the run out there and they haven't scored it doesn't sound like since the first half, but looks like they're going to be able to hang on and get a win.
