Gonzaga Prep director of athletics Paul Manfred joins us. Does it seem like we've finished up football season here? We just started. We did. But you know what?

It was almost eight weeks ago we started this. But it does seem like just yesterday, Larry, that we started this. And here we are on the Friday. Is that April 9th? Yeah.

And we're finishing football season. How about that? Now we've got after tonight we start with the spring sports. Correct? We do.

Spring sports got underway for the GSL teams on Monday of spring break. So we're about three, four days into practice now. Five days into practice. So they're gearing up and start competitions on Monday. How has this all gone for you folks at Prep, trying to squeeze all these games into a short amount of time?

You know, it's been a little bit of a whirlwind, but our kids, our kids are kids and they'll go with anything. And so it's probably more of the adults that get more worked up, but it's been a ton of fun. It's been a lot of fun watching the kids play, really. All of our fall sports. We had a couple of games that we were able to miss, but for the most part, we really got through all of our fall sports pretty unscathed.

So it was a great experience and we're hoping for the best with the spring sports next season. Two with the private school did you folks, were you able to do things differently than the state as far as coming to class and things like that? Well, it wasn't really a private school thing, but we did. We started school our students back in September with 50% of our kids were coming every other day and the other kids were learning at the same time at home. And so we had kids sitting in the classroom and kids sitting at home and the teacher was instructing to both at the same time.

And so it definitely was not a doesn't replace our usual school day, but it was a pretty good replacement. And so Monday after spring break, Monday the 12th, we're coming back with all of our students will be in the building moving forward for the fourth quarter. So that's exciting for us. I was going to say that has to be just a breath of fresh air for all the teachers. It is.

You guys broadcast from a classroom that overlooks the stadium. And when you were here a couple weeks ago, every other desk was flipped upside down. Now they're all right side up getting ready for Monday. Absolutely. Anything else happening, Paul, at Gonzaga Prep that you want folks to know about?

You know, we're accepting applications this spring, so looking for a great freshman class and looking for really to close out what's been a difficult year with it with a bang. So making the most of it. Like I said, our kids are resilient and they're excited to kind of go through the last couple of months of school and so it'll be a celebration. You had a chance to talk to the five athletic directors from the Greater Spokanella, from the District 81 schools regarding the downtown stadium project. And they are united in one idea.

Oops, hang on a minute. I turned that down. Now you can talk. Am I with you now? You are, yes.

Every time you talk to any one of them, they are united in the idea that for the kids that will use it, for the schools that will use it, for the communities that will use it, that it would be better suited for them for the stadium to be downtown. And I think as you talk to a lot of people within the district, within the schools, you know, it really is. It could finally give these schools a home feel. You know, having to go out to Alby isn't convenient for anybody. It's certainly not convenient for the schools on the South Hill.

It's not convenient for the schools in the Valley that have to come down and play road games down there, and it's not convenient for the schools in the city. You know, a lot of these kids, they don't drive. They have to take the bus or whatever, and it just, you know, to have a place that they could call their own. Downtown would just do wonders, I think, for all the programs. You talk to the guys out at Rogers and it's like an hour for them to get their kids to Joe Albi, not because of traffic, but because, as you said, they don't drive.

So they've got to get on the buses and once they get out to that area, then they have to walk, you know, however far it is to get to the. To the stadium. There's just nothing that would let them off right near the stadium. Right. And, you know, the physical situation of Albie out there, you know, it was built, you know, to host college football games, you know, 35,000 people.

And to do that, you know, you have to have these massive parking lots, and it's not right on the street front. So, you know, physically out there, it's a little bit difficult to navigate as well. They haven't repaved the thing in 25 or 30 years. So there are potholes as big as Volkswagens out there. And, you know, while, you know, if they would rebuild at Alby, they would fix some of that stuff, but some of the stuff is just, you know, because of where the situation is.

And, and to get there, it's. It's not easy, you know, it's not easy for anyone really. You know, and then you couple that with the idea that. I think. I think Ferris Stacey Ward said it best.

You know, we're used to Going downtown for, for Hoop Fest and going downtown for Chiefs games and going downtown for, you know, for spirit week and that type of thing. To have a football stadium right there where they, where we're used to going anyway. A no brainer. Absolutely. And do you think, Dave, that momentum is starting to build toward the downtown site?

Well, I'm not a tea leaf reader. The folks that I talk to are hopeful. You know, I think, you know, you talk about, you know, being able to save $350,000 in maintenance fees. You talk about, you know, having the city do the maintenance, you know, and have the city's maintenance workers as opposed to the school district. I think that's a benefit for that.

It's really going to come down to, you know, whether the school board can finally set aside the advisory vote, you know, of two of two and a half years ago now that, you know, a lot of people that use the school district, that are in the school district didn't need to vote in it. So, you know, when you're talking about politics and politicians, you know, who knows, you know, what's going to sway their vote. But if you listen to the people that use that will have to use it. They all want it downtown. The cream rises to the top when you start talking about a season.

And here we're seeing these two teams at the top of the 3A 4A race along with Mount Spokane. So we have, we kind of know there. And then the 2A race, it's going to be West Valley and Shadow park in the end. Right. We'll start with the two A's real quick.

West Valley, you know, as good a program as there is in the state, they win a lot every year. They're going to finish undefeated. They won't get to play tonight because of North Central is not being able to have enough healthy bodies to play. So they'll finish undefeated. Shadow park will get that chance.

They've missed a couple of games this week, this year as well. So, you know, good competition there in the 2A as far as a 3A 4A, we've had this game circled all year. You know, these are two of the top programs with CV and Gonzaga Prep contrasting style. So it'll be fun to watch. And obviously Mount Spokane wins lot every year too.

So we could end up with three one loss teams when this is over. Or we could have a clear cut champ with Gonzaga Prep. Dave, thanks for coming in. We'll get your game coverage online after the game tonight@spokesman. com always my pleasure.

And you've got a team that is a ground based team in Gonzaga prep versus a team that likes to throw the ball in Central Valley.

So a little interesting dynamic. Yes, opposites. Little opposites attract type thing here. A lot like you and I on the air. Yeah, there you go.

There you go. But you're exactly right. Ryan McKenna is outstanding at quarterback and you've got three running backs. They might add an extra lineman there to get some girth, you know, on the inside. But they're, they're ground and pound and they set you up and they get you to creep up to try to stop the run.

And then they do an excellent job prep does of play action pass. We saw that last week on a, on a fourth and one situation down in Davis where, you know, the Aggies did a nice job of faking the run and slid a tight end out right down the field for a touchdown. It was a big play for them. So that's exactly what prep wants to do. They want a big player, but they do such a good job of running the football, they make it tough because you can't stop the darn thing.

And then when you do try to creep up, they throw that ball downfield and take advantage of it. So on the other side, Central Valley's got a guy that you know, Luke Abshire, who's, who's thrown for almost 1200 yards and 11 touchdowns, got a big arm. He's got excellent receivers, you know, running all over the place and a big offensive line and they spread you out and they huck the ball all over the field. So tonight's going to be interesting because it is windy. It's going to be an interesting dynamic out here in terms of, you know, do you handle the wind throwing the football or do you try to run it like prep does and keep it on the ground and burn clock.

And we will see what happens here this evening as we get ready for kickoff in about 20 minutes or so. This portion of the pregame show. Well, let's be back. McKinnon's done a nice job. 548 rushing yards, 13 touchdowns, and only four games there. Also, Cass Melzer is back and, you know, just kind of destroying people all over the field. Also an excellent linebacker, defensive back in Daniel McKiernan who's getting some Division 1 love as well for Gonzaga Prep. So you have a very impressive defense that have shut people down and pretty much kept it to about a touchdown.

A game that they give up on defense. And in an offense that's been overpowering with a ground and pound effort, you know, you've got Ortega and Hillbrand and Collier. Those three backs can do a great job. You got receivers and, and Arias and Duchenne that are outstanding in a very good offensive line. So the key for prep, control the line of scrimmage on both sides of the ball, win the turnover battle, control the clock and make sure when you get in the red zone, you punch the football in and you're not kicking field goals on the other side.

For Central Valley, they're going to air it out. They're going to stretch this prep defense and try to get them out of their base a little bit. You know, they'll play five defensive backs, but they can throw the football. They've got four wide receivers that are very capable, very big offensive line, but again, it's going to come down to turnovers. Larry, ability to score in the red zone and third down conversions, you know, from that standpoint.

And can. The Central Valley defense gave up a big touchdown late against Mt. Spokane in that loss. Can they control the line of scrimmage and make it difficult for Gonzaga Prep to run the ball? I think that's going to be the matchup tonight that we're going to see and I think should be an outstanding game.

It's senior night here at Gonzaga Prep, so all the seniors have their parents that they're coming out onto the field with and getting introduced to the crowd here at Central Valley or at Gonzaga Prep here this evening. Will this game be a defensive game? From the looks at it, it should be. Gonzaga Prep in four games has allowed 32 points this season and has allowed only one touchdown in the first three quarters of play all year long. Central Valley, on their other hand, has only allowed four offensive touchdowns this year against them and has given up only 40 total points in six games.

That's an average of less than seven a game. So you've got CV giving up less than seven a game, Prep giving up eight points a game. You'd expect a defensive series or a defensive game here this evening, but with that it'll probably end up being 35 to 28 or 42 to 35 or whatever the final score is. It's like saying this guy's made 15 straight free throws and then clanks the next one off the rim. So you know, but I would think it's just going to take some time.

It's a chess match. They're going to get a chance to figure out each other here and you can watch so much film, get an idea in terms of what they can do. But until you're actually up against them, you see the speed and the size and then what works, you make your adjustments from that standpoint. But I could see this game, you know, being kind of a nail bit or last possession type football game, which is all you can ask for. And these are the two of the best teams in the 4A level.

And I think they're going to have a chance tonight to play for basically an eastern regional championship, which is what the GSL is. Coming in with a 4 and 1 record or a 5 and 1 record rather, they beat Ferris, Mead and Cheney to start the season 28:12 over Ferris. That was their high point of the year. Offensively they have not scored more than 28 points in a game, but the wins over Meade and Cheney were both shutouts. Then they lost to Mt. Spokane 19 to 15, defeated Lewis and Clark 20 to 3 and last week won the greasy pig against U high with a 25 to 6 win.

Prep had a close game the first game of the year against Mount Spokane. They won that game 10 to 7 and since then they've been rolling their opponents. They won by 41 over Lewis and Clark 48 to 7, by 27 over Mead 37 to 10 and by 48 over Ferris 56 to 8. The final score in that ball game. So they are averaging close to 50 points a game.

Well, that's they're averaging well over 40 points a game in the last three games and their offense has been running on high efficiency. Well, and also in that Ferris game, Larry, basically the defense didn't give up a point. It was a touchdown on offense or maybe it was special teams. Basically Ferris was able to fumble return a fumble fumble return in the end zone. So defense has done a phenomenal job and you know, it'll be, this is going to be a good game.

I like seeing two teams that have excellent defenses and you know, trying to stop the wishbone attack that, that Gonzaga Prep has is very difficult. You have to start from the inside. You have to have a good nose guard, excellent linebackers, good defensive tackles and you force everything to the outside. But you have to cover up, you know, your quarterback, your fullback, your running back to your pitch and then rally to the football. And if you, if you make one mistake, they are so good at reading it, they take advantage of that and really make you pay for it.

And they have been running very, very well this year. This is an impressive football team. 47 points a game in the last three games is what Gonzaga Prep is, is scoring. So they are moving the ball up and down the field very well for CV. Again, 28 points is their high point game this year.

So even though they throw the ball around quite a little bit, they are not getting a ton of points out of it. No, I agree. So they've got to figure out a way and they've had some issues with turnovers, you know, and they didn't play very well in the first half in that university, you know, game. But they really came back well in the second half and, and kind of put the pedal to the metal and really impose their will. So will it be the second half team against U High that shows up here to start the game or will be the first half team that struggle a little bit?

We'll have a chance to find out here in a few short minutes. Here's a look at the scoreboard of games that happened last night, plus games that are on the schedule for tonight. All the other sports being played in this season are done. So soccer and volleyball both have wrapped up. Last night, Mount Spokane defeated Lewis and Clark 34 to 9.

Mead defeated University 41 to 14. And then on the 2A side of things, East Valley knocked off Othello 27 to 21. On the schedule tonight, Ferris scheduled to play Cheney. That's the only other 3A 4A game going on. And then in 2A tonight, Shadow park is at Clarkston.

Rogers will visit Pullman. And the scheduled West Valley North Central game has been postponed. In the standings, Gonzaga preps at 4 and oh Central Valley and Mount Spokane are both 5 and 1, Meads at 4 and 3, Cheney at 2 and 3, Lewis and Clark 2 and 5, Ferris 1 and 5, U high 0 and 5. And on the two A side of things, it's West Valley at 5 and oh, Shadow park at 4 and oh, East Valley is. Well, I'd like to thank the National Electrical Contractors association and International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers. They have white pants and light blue helmets here today, Gonzaga Prep in their home uniforms, dark blue, the navy blue, the navy blue with white numerals, navy blue pants and blue helmets as well. We're getting ready for the toss of the coin, I think here at some point in time. Nope, I think they did that already. So the teams are getting ready to come out onto the field here, but we are awaiting television. This is also a televised game.

Well, I know Tim Peterson is one of the side judges over here because I recognize his waddle when he came over. It's really hard to see everybody, but he walks just like I do, which is kind of a waddle and a gait and a drag of a leg. And so this will be a good crew out here tonight. And you know, great family. And his father was a Hall of Famer who passed away, was a great Eagle, you know, for many, many years.

And of course his brother is a Hall of Famer in softball and as an official. So what a great family. I mean, to be able to turn out that many good officials, you know, from our standpoint, we have one in our family. And even my wife boost me, so that tells you where I stand. Alright, Gonzaga Prep will kick off and Central Valley will receive.

CV Will go from left to right in front of us. They have three men back deep to receive this kickoff. Elijah Bowden is the player in the middle and they've got Nick Saunders on the far side. And it looks like it is Dakari Pacotis on the near side. All three standing back at about the 10 yard line.

Evan Deshain has the ball on the tee. Our kickoff brought to you by Papa Murphy's Change the way you pizza. Here's the run forward in the boot downfield. And we're underway here at Gonzaga Prep. And this will be Pacotis.

And he will be in the end zone and that'll be a touchback. And so CV will start at their 20 yard line here. First and 10. We'll get a look at Luke Abshire, the top quarterback in the Greater Spokane League as far as passing yards. He's gonna be going into about a 25 mile an hour wind right now, kind of blowing as we look at the field from our right to left, basically from the south to the east, you know, it's coming in.

So that could cause some issues on deep balls, balls that are thrown, you know, towards the Central Valley. Sidelines might be able to sail a little bit because you get that wind behind you. So that'll be something to keep an eye on as well tonight. So first down and 10 for the Bears. They have the ball on the far side at their own 20 yard line on the left hash mark.

They've got two receivers split out to either side. Abshire out of the pistol formation. Well, looks like it's a shotgun formation here. Motion coming from the inside receiver on the left side. And they will fake the hand up.

No, they do give it off and not much there for the running back. He gets hit in the backfield for a loss. That was Kelly, the running back. And he gets hit back at about the 18 yard line for a loss of a couple. Great penetration up the middle.

Looked like the nose guard was able to come through. You know, Ephraim Watkins doing a nice job defeating the block. He's also captain and he just kind of swam, moved the center, who's a big guy at £300 and was back there before you knew what happened. Second down and 12, back at their own 18. Now again four wide, two to either side.

Abshire, the quarterback, takes the shotgun snap, face mask high, hands it to Kelly again, stretch play left side, cuts up field over the 20, lowers his shoulder, crosses the 25 and gets out to about the 26 yard line. So a nice little eight yard run there brings up third and manageable. Good, good zone read that time. Just a little zone play to the left side, but very well blocked over there. And a nice job by the wide receiver to block on the corner to give Kelly that corner.

He got up field good head of steam. Took a couple of bullpups to finally knock him down. That was a great second down play to make it manageable here at third down and you know, relatively short third and four. Ball on the left hash at their own 26 for CV. They've got again two receivers to either side kind of stacked out to the left side and then two receivers split wide to the right.

And now I'm in motion. They pitch the ball ahead and that'll be a first down play. Up over the 30 to the 31 yard line as Gonzaga Prep was able to bring him down. But Elijah Bowden gains five and it's well to give him six out to the 32. That's a Damon Orthodontics.

First down again. This time they went to the to the right side that time. A little sweep out there and pulled a guard doing a nice job, but he got around the corner, had a good head of steam there and lowered his shoulder. Kind of bowled over a defender to pick up some extra yards. That was a very good second and third down play call with a run left and then a run right.

And they got some nice yards against this prep defense is pretty good. Gain of six yards. First down and 10. Central Valley at their own 32. Now from the right Hashmore.

Abshire takes the snap, face mask high, hands it off, running to the right side and getting hit and dropped for a loss is the running back Kelly lost a couple of yards back to the 30 yard line. Luciano Reynolds, I believe, was there to bring him down for Gonzaga Prep. Excellent. Also great job by Daniel McKiernan who came right up the middle, shot the gap, forced him to bounce outside. He's getting some D1 love as well.

Very good, athletic young man that's playing linebacker for prep right now, but being recruited as a safety at the next level. So that was just a good read and that's what prep does on defense. Larry on run, they're very good at sniffing out those run plays and making it tough. Yep, you're right. McKernan on the stop.

Loss of a couple of yards. Second down and 12 trips to the left. One man wide right ball on the right hash. Abshire takes the snap, fades back, throws quickly to the sidelines, has a catch out, curling in toward the center of the field and getting up to about the 37 or 38 yard line is the receiver. And that is going to be a little short gain there.

That was Braden Bruggeman that was on the reception there. Up to the 38 for a gain of eight. He's a big guy at 6, 495 pounds. Also captain for this game and did a nice job of going down and just turning around. Little curl rod about 7, 8 yards downfield, but that ball got there lickety split.

Very nice throw, you know, by Abshire. And he hit him right in the numbers. But pretty good coverage because as soon as he caught it, there were prep defenders all over him. And so no score. First drive of the game, third and four for CV at their own 38 from the right hash.

Two receivers to either side. They're down to three on the play clock. Abshire takes the snap, looks to the left side, throws to the left side, has a catch and nope, it's dropped. Pass incomplete. Good play out there for Gonzaga Prep to separate the receiver from the football.

Nick Saunders, the intended receiver for Central Valley. And they'll be fourth down and they'll have to punt it away. You're throwing from the right hash all the way over the left side. The receiver only ran down two yards. Had he had it, been able to catch it, he wouldn't had a first down anyway.

So you've got to know where that first down stick is. You've got to get past that and then you can come back a yard or two, you know, but. And help your quarterback out. But you don't do your QB any favors if you're 2, 3 yards short of the stick when you turn around. Cole Nelson to punt.

Luciano Reynolds back deep to receive here for Gonzaga Prep. Stands at his 30. Rugby punt. Rolls to the right side and gets it away. A floating kick downf.

This is going to hit. Bounces off the return man, Reynolds, but he falls on it, I think at the 39 yard line. So that ball hit Reynolds in the knee, but he was able to dive on it at the 39. And that's where Gonzaga Prep will have the football in a scoreless game. And we have 814 remaining to play.

A pistol formation movement up front and we'll see what this is all about. I think that's gonna be offsides because you had a neutral zone violation by the right side of the defensive line. They're just trying to shoot the gap there and just time it correctly. That's a free five yard freebie for Gonzaga Prep. So the five yard walk off takes the ball up to the 44 yard line.

First down and ten, or first down and five rather. Now for the bullpups. McKenna out of the pistol formation, Ortega behind him. And they will hand it to Ortega. Slants off the right side, lowers your shoulder and pounds his way out over the 50, gets down to the bear 49 for a gain of seven and a first down.

You know, 220 pounds the way the Ortega hits the line, he runs low too. He has low pad level. That is not a fun tackle to you know, to hit when he's full speed. Officials put him at midfield. So a six yard gain.

It brings up first down and ten here after the penalty. And they will fake the handoff. Run the option pitch to Collier over the 45 yard line. He goes or to the 45 and he is brought down over, across the way. Pretty good play there for Central Valley.

I think that was Pacotis. They came over there and made the stop after a five yard gain for Collier. Yeah, excellent job of defeating the block on the wide receiver. And then just got off and forced him to the sidelines and was able to wrap him up there. Nice job, good reaction.

Second down and five. Collier set to the right. And now they will fake it to again. Ortega. Now run the option to the left side and this is going to be a first down play.

Inside the 35 yard line and going down to about the 33 yard line. And I think that was Collier again and that's going to be another first down run. Parkman was the one that came from the other side. They had a blitz from his little rover position and he just tracked him down from the backside showing good speed. So the officials spot the ball down at the 34 yard line.

First down and 10, another first down. Now McKenna will keep it himself off the right side, get hit around the ankles and brought down. Good play. Pacotis there to bring him down at the 34. It looks like so pretty much right at the line of scrimmage, you know, they've been able to get outside.

So basically they're pinching everybody inside and the defensive front, making it difficult for the fullback to run. But prep's taken advantage that by going wide. Second down and 10 at the bear 34 yard line. Ball on the right hash. McKenna takes the snap, fakes the handoff, pitches to the right side, taking the ball inside the 30, 25, 20.

Squirting free into the secondary. Ball rolling over a defensive back and getting finally spilled down at about the 5 yard line is the ball carries. That was Hilburn and he trucked one of the secondary players for Gonzaga for a Central Valley and Kyle part of one finally was able to bring him down. Your buddy Pacotis who's been all over the field that he didn't get the better of that one as he got absolutely rocked. Good play.

Got to drop your shoulder, get into the belly. From the four yard line they give it away to Ortega. He Pounds his way through the left side and will be down close to the two yard line before he is brought down by Kyle Parkman. You know, just a nice job right now. Prep's doing a good job of kind of working inside, then bouncing it outside and they're really going off their strength in terms of their offensive line.

Gain of a couple, second down and goal. They hand it off inside. Cracking in there and not getting into the end zone is Ortega. He gets to the one. It'll be third and goal, maybe even length of the football from the goal line.

Looks like he's inside the one, Larry. And let's see if they try to get outside because Seavee is really packed inside there. Tight between the tackles. Third and goal from inside the one out of the pistol. McKenna hands it to Ortega off the left side, drives into the end zone.

Touchdown Gonzaga Prep. So Ortega takes us in his eighth rushing touchdown of the season and Gonzaga Prep draws first blood. 6 Nothing here with 541 remaining to play. First quarter. Boy, what a great drive by Gonzaga Prep.

And let's give the defense a lot of credit as they got the football back, gave him pretty decent field position and Ortega does what he does and that score from a yard out. Another nice touchdown run. Well blocked up front. Point after try for Duchene here. Here's the kick.

The touchdown drive recap. Eight plays 61 yards for Gonzaga Prep. Ortega pounds it in from a yard out. Bullpups lead at 7 to nothing. That is your STCU touchdown drive.

Recap. So Gonzaga Prep out on top in this one. Central Valley ready to return. This kick coming from Evan Deshain. They have the three men back deep to receive Bowden the middle receiver at about the five yard line.

Here's the kick. End over end and high. This will be Bowden and he will grab it from the two yard line, bring it up the right side, gets to the 10 to the 15 and will not be go much beyond the 15 yard line. Good kick coverage there for Gonzaga Prep and they stop him. And Central Valley will start inside their 20 yard line at either the 15 or 16 here.

You know you talk about Prep's offense being so good, you know, in terms of grinding away at you. But let's give credit to the defense and also the special teams. They've been outstanding, you know, this spring as well, forcing turnovers, playing field position when they have to. They haven't had to punt very much, but they really kind of clamped down and make it difficult, you know, for you to do anything on your returns for kickoffs and punts. And that's a sign of a very good football team.

Looks like we got a penalty here. Yeah, we've got a marker that's going to be on Gonzaga prep. My guess is a face mask, maybe just a personal foul. Either way, it'll add 15 yards onto this. And so that means instead of starting at their own 15, Seavey will get decent field position at the 30.

Well, I think you're gonna have to see them throw the football a little bit, especially on first down and try to loosen up this defense. And you've got good receivers out there that can make some plays and, you know, let's see if they get after, you know, Justin Finn and company who have been doing a great job all season long catching. One receiver is split to the right side. They've got two receivers wide to the left and they've got a wing set to the right here on first down, Abshire takes a high snap, fakes the handoff, throws it out quickly, has a catch by Brugman, he spins out a one tackle, gets out over the 40 and should have a first down.

He'll be very close to that. At the very least we'll see where they put him out. Looks like it'll be right at the 40. Gain a 10 second catch for Brugman. Just a curl route like they went to the first time.

Nice job of breaking a tackle though and getting that first down. Little Damon orthodontic. First down. Nice job. So after that 10 yard pickup, first and 10 again for the Bears at their own 40.

Brugman split to the right, two men to the left again a wing, and that wing goes in motion now to the left side. And now that wing stops and there's another high snap that's grabbed by Abshire. He rolls to the left, throws to the left and has a catch close to the midfield stripe as hauling that in for Central Valley is Josh Lawson. They will put him at the 49 it looks like, for a gain of 9. Nice job by Abshire because he half rolled to his left side.

Had to throw back. As a right handed quarterback, he's got to throw back across his body. But he did, he squared his shoulders up and he hit Lawson right stride. Very difficult throw, but a great place to throw it. Second down in a yard, Bears have it at their own 49 on the left #1 receiver to the left, 2 to the right, Abshire wants to throw, fires the ball to the right sidelines, has a catch over the 45, 40 down the right sidelines.

35, 30. Breaking a tackle, Lawson 15, 10, 5. Touchdown Central Valley. Lawson just a quick out. The inside receiver running out to the sidelines and the defensive back went for the interception or the knockdown and he didn't get it.

And Lawson able to make a left hand turn on the sidelines and go down the sidelines for a 51 yard passing touchdown. And it's 76 now with a point after coming 12th touchdown of the season by Abshar. And that's a thing where you've got to stay on your up field shoulder. If you don't think you can get underneath and knock that ball down or pick it off, you better not cut underneath that because that's what's going to happen. You're going to give up a big play.

So go through the outside shoulder, give yourself a chance. Here's the point after for Hunter Myers. Snap back is good. Ball spotted and the kick is blocked. So a blocked PAT will make this still a 76 ballgame and Gonzaga Prep stays on top in this one and we have 439 remaining to go here in the first quarter of play.

Yeah, but what an excellent counter Larry by Central Valley to come back right down the field and counter the touchdown drive that prep just put together. And they did it with a big play. They did it with a throw that you know was a really good, you know, out route. Basically had a defensive back try to make a play when he could have just made a tackle, been a 1012 yard gain. Instead it was 51 yards and a score.

So that's what CV is kicking of doing coming up with the big play, throwing the football like they have the best quarterback in terms of throwing the ball in the Greater Spokane right league right now is Luke Abshire did a great job on that first 12th touchdown pass. And so three plays, a 10 play, a 10 yard pass, a nine yard pass and a 51 yard pass and run for Lawson. Three plays, 70 yards. CB gets the score. The PAT blocked though and it's a 76 ballgame and that touchdown drive.

Recap presented by St. Cuz Myers ready to kick it off. Two men back deep to receive for Gonzaga Prep standing at their five yard line here. Here's the run forward in the boot downfield high end over end, fairly short, racing up, grabbing this one at the 14 yard line. Luciano Reynolds or check that it's McKiernan over the 20, 25, 30, up the right hash 40, 45, 50 gets by the kicker and it just tripped up as he gets over the 45, down to about the 40 yard line.

The kicker just got enough of him to knock him off his balance. Spun him around and McKiernan goes down, down at the 43 it looks like of Central Valley. Well, give Hunter Myers, the kicker for Central Valley, some credit, you know, for sticking his nose in there. He did a great job. He basically saved a touchdown because if McCarran gets by that guy unscathed, he's going to take it all the way.

And that's a huge play for prep. A great field position right now inside the 50. Prep at the CV 43 yard line here with a 7 to 6 lead. They're going out of the pistol here. McKenna the quarterback fakes the handoff, runs option left side pitches.

Collier tries to get to the left corner, gets inside the 40, gets to the sidelines and is pushed out of bounds around the 35 yard line by Nick Saunders. We'll see where the officials give him for forward progress there, but a good first down gain. You know, CV showing good sideline to sideline defense right now they're stringing these plays out, which is what you want to do. And they're taking away that fullback dive right now to Ortega. So they're doing a nice job between the middle and then forcing everything wide.

Gained of almost seven yards there. Second down and along three again out of the pistol with the wing set to the left. High snap grabbed, handed off and Ortega barrels over the left side, has a first down close to the 30 yard line before he is taken down. Ortega gains about 7 more yards and in on the stop for Central Valley was Elijah Bowden. Nice first down there.

Now again for for prep. Keep moving the ball on the ground, keep grinding. Gain of 6, first down and 10 at the 31. They'll run option to the right, pitch back. Collier over the 30, cuts outside 25 foot race to the corner and is run down by Bacotis down inside the 20 yard line.

Looks like he'll be short of the 15 at around the 16 or 17 yard line. Your safeties have to be very active. They've got to be able to fill that gap. And you know right now you've got Bowdoin the free safety and Pakota is the strong safety making an awful lot of tackles because they're having to come up and fill. Gain of 15 a Damen Orthodontics first down first and 10 from the 16.

Now Central Valley movement up front. Poor center. As the center gets bowled over. We'll see whether he was drawn off the man that bowled over the center or whether there's an offside call coming. It'll be offside.

So not only does Prep pick up 5 yards, the center gets a bruise as well. And you know, he's like, dude, I, I didn't move the ball. Why are you blowing me up? Knock the guard over. So five yard penalty.

First and five now from the 11 yard line of CV McKenna. Fakes the hand up. No. Gives it away. And Ortega plows in over the right side this time.

Short gain, gets inside the 10. Well, they give him down to the seven. It looks like that would be a gain of four yards. It'd be just a yard short of a first down. Would not be surprised to see Prep come back and run that same motion where they finish the ball this time to Ortega up the middle.

And then they bootleg the quarterback to the outside McKinnon, because everybody's collapsing. He'd be wide open. Second down and one from the seven yard line of Central Valley. And they hand it off again. Ortega spins out of the first contact and I think should have a first down inside the six.

The officials, I believe will spot this to where it's first down. Nope, it'll be third down in inches still. So no gain for Ortega. So third down, the ball spotted at the six Still, I think they're going to measure and now they are going to call in the chains here, I believe. That's pretty good. From the dingle weeds that we're at, you're able to see that that was impressive. Mr. Weirwell. That first down and goal to go from the six yard line out of the pistol formation, they fake it to Ortega.

McKenna keeps it and he is blown up. Great play by the defense there for Central Valley as they had Trevor Gravel the linebacker and Kyle Parkman there to make the stop. They shot both their middle linebackers over the A gap that time. They blitz both and basically brought the Rover and also the Bruin. So they brought everybody on that play.

Really no place to rot. No gain on the play. 2nd and goal from the 6 from the right hash 7 6. Gonzaga prep lead CV they fake the handoff run option to the left side. Getting trying to get to the corner is the running back and he gets down inside the five to about the four yard line.

It's Collier taken down by three or four Central Valley Bears and it'll be third and goal. Looks like he got to the three that time. The Bruin outside linebacker, McMurtry was the one that tracked him down. He came from the wide side of the field. Looks like they're going to take a little time out and chat about stuff.

So let's stop into the swinging doors at the corner of Francis and Monroe before or after the game to meet, eat and have fun. Really a great place to go and hang out. Proud supporters of the gsl. It was an injured player. Pakota slimps off.

So one of the safeties is out of there now. Third and goal from outside the three for Gonzaga Prep. And McKenna will run it to the right side and pitch it. And it dropped for a big loss. Is Ortega all the way back outside the five yard line And I'm not sure who got him there might have been Parkman again to bring him down.

But that's all the way back around the eight or nine yard line. I think that was 32. The Bruin outside back are kind of the hybrid, the buck guy. So McMurtry. Yep.

I think McMurtry was the guy that played his position. That's what you want to do. You got to play that. You've got to leverage that thing kind of inside outside. You did a perfect job, Ortega.

It's not easy to bring down the open field. Loss of about 5 on the play. Field goal try. High snap ball spotted kick is up and it is good. So Deshain gets the field goal from about 25 yards there.

And that puts Gonzaga Prep ahead now by the score of 10 to 6. And we are down to a minute 19 remaining to play here in the first quarter of play. Well, this, this has been a very active first quarter for both these teams. These offenses are kind of of moving up and down the field. Good special teams play here.

It's been relatively clean. We've had A few penalties. But overall, both of these teams hard hitting, good action between Central Valley and Gonzaga Prep, something you would expect for two teams that are fighting for the title. And so that was another eight play drive it looked like for Gonzaga Prep. And they go all the way down inside the 10.

They end up getting stopped out at about the eight yard line. And so the field goal makes it a 10, six ballgame. And we wondered in the pregame show about, you know, Gonzaga Prep allows eight points a game, Central Valley allows less than seven. And we thought we might see an offensive game just because of that. And that's what we have so far.

We cursed them because we praised the defenses and whenever we do that, it's 180 degrees opposite. So it's like the curse on the free throw guy that's, you know, made 97 straight and then the next one he doinks. So, you know, again though, these are two really good defenses and two offenses. Now they're starting to figure those defenses out. So Deshain ready to kick it off again.

Three players back deep to receive here. And here's the kick. Good high end over end kick. This is going to be Saunders, I believe, from the five yard line, gets out over the 10, cuts to the right sidelines, gets over the 20 and has ran out of bounds as he crosses the 20 up around the 21 or 22 yard line.

There to help rent him out for Gonzaga Prep was Brandon kelly. And so CV will start at their own 22 with this possession coast to coast turf, we aim to please the official Northwest distributor of AstroTurf located here in Spokane and Seattle, Washington. Brugman splits to the right side. Two receivers go left and the quarterback Abshire will operate out of the pistol formation with the running back a couple of steps behind him and offset to the left. Abshire takes the snap, hands it off.

Kelly dances, tries to bounce to the left side and is stuffed. Yep, that was a mistake. He loses yardage back inside the 20. Good job by that Gonzaga Prep defense. He went left, should have gone right, basically.

They were slanting that time to the wide side of the field and he tried to make a play. Sometimes, you know, it's better just to stick your nose, go full speed, try to get to the line of scrimmage. As soon as you dance, you lose your momentum. Defense will overwhelm you just like that. Big loss in that Play.

Loss of 4, 2nd down and 14 now for the Bears with the ball back at their own 18 yard line. 10 6. Gonzaga Prep with the lead here in the late part of the first quarter, the quarterback Abshire calling the signals, they take a lot of time off the clock here. He takes the snap and rolls out to the left side, pulls up, being pressured, gets away, throws to the left, sidelines down the sideline, jump ball try and the pass is incomplete. And I think we're going to get a flag down as the ball is a little bit under thrown and the corner bumped into the receiver trying to come back for the ball.

A lot of defensive back coaches, and I was one of them, if you're beat, you got to get back to the hip. And if you run over the guy and that's what happened because he slowed down Larry, that ball's a little bit under thrown on the deeper out there. And when he did, defensive back overwhelms him, runs up his back. Easy call for the official over there. That'll be a 15 yard penalty.

And so that will go from a second and 14 situation and give him a first down again in high school, not an automatic first down. So you have to get it on the yardage. And they did. Which is, which is. I don't like that rule.

I think if you make a mistake you should really, you know, let them have an automatic first down. But you know, that's the high school rule. The college rule and the pro rule sometimes will take differ. So the ball up to the 33 yard line, first down and 10 and the ball also toward the center of the field here and CV stands at the line. They don't huddle, but they are not a fast paced offense.

They will run this play clock almost all the way down to zero on a regular basis. Abshire, the quarterback running back moves behind him down to one on the play clock. They just get it off, they hand it off. Kelly bounces into the middle and gets to the 35 for a short gain of a couple of yards. Kaz Mel, or I think it was Kaz Meltzer was in there and Daniel McKernan down in the bottom of the pile.

Short game. Two of the better linebackers in the Greater Spokane League. Both of those guys read really well and McCarran and I like him, he's got great instincts, excellent hitter and I think that's it for the first quarter. Yeah, Luke Miller was in there along with McKernan on that play. A gain of a couple of yards for Central Valley and that ends our first quarter of play.

And this was the year that they dropped down Central Valley, North Central Rogers and I think you've seen a little bit better competitive balance. You know, Shadow's been good. You know, in the 3A level they've been competitive there. They just had a tough time getting by Mounts Volcan. Back in the Brett Rippon era they were able to battle but still that was always a tough matchup.

So I think that's a great move for them in all sports. And congratulations to both of those programs. Welcoming West Valley, East Valley, Cheney, Clarkson and Pullman to the gso. This is their first go ride and Othello, which was really I thought a great addition. Great job for this year.

They will not be with us in the fall. Nope. So a one yard gain on that last play and it was second down and nine now for Central Valley. They will move right to left now in front of us. They have the ball at their own 34 yard line here.

Two receivers split to either side and Abshire in the first quarter of play, I had him five out of six for 84 yards and a touchdown at that big 51 yarder. So that helped. Two receivers split to either side. Abshire with the running back a couple of steps behind him and offset to the left. Prep showing blitz.

Somebody got into the neutral zone. That'll be the third penalty already on Gonzaga prep for 35 yards. Yeah, I think that was, that was Gavin McKiernan, the right end over there, and he just good hard count there. And that's not something that, you know, that the Gonzaga Prep coaches appreciate. So they're going to have a little talking to and ht, I'm sure will straighten him out.

Second down and four. Abshire to throw. Looking to the left side, throwing deep left side, looking for Hinn and overthrew him incomplete. And so it'll be third down and four yards to go. It's tough for those defensive linemen though, Paul, because prep or CV basically stands at the line of scrimmage like they're ready to go, but they just are standing there looking at the sidelines and letting the time go out.

So everybody standing there. And I'm sure you get antsy a little. Yeah, you do. But you still got to watch the ball. And that's, that's the thing.

You're not going on count. Even though that's easy to do sometimes you can time it, but you've still got to see that ball snapped. And once you move, you can go. So you know, still the fundamentals that you've got to follow that you've got to read the football and you've got to watch it. If you don't, you're going to jump off sides and get in trouble.

Lawson, the inside receiver to the left hand, wide to the left, and Brugman wide to the right here. 3rd and 4, CV and they will run it. Kelly into the middle, stops now, starts to the right side and may have a first down close to the 43 yard line. He just ran into the middle of the field and stopped and all of a sudden then bounced out to the right side and he will gain four yards and I think enough for a first down. Yes, it is.

Boy, I didn't think he had a chance on that one. And you're exactly right, Larry. Just a great job. And that was the bounce. He came inside, got popped in the mouth, but they didn't wrap up and he was able to then slide to the right and that was enough to get that first down.

That was a big drive and a big Bounce for Central Valley. A Damon orthodontics. First down. Up at the 43 yard line. First down and 10 and again.

Everybody stands at the line of scrimmage and looks to the bench. And that's smart because you're burning clock here. You're trying to keep Prep's offense on the sideline. You're using that to your advantage, which keeps that score down and keeps those possessions down. Trips to the left, Brugman wide to the right.

Ball on the right hash. First and 10 up at their own 43. Now for CV and Abshire will hand it off. Kelly dances into the middle of the field and might have gotten a yard to the 44 yard line. There isn't a whole lot of room to run for him up in there, but it'll be second and nine and they're just trying Central Valley.

The Bears are just trying to keep that defensive front honest and this is a passing attack. But you've got to be able to run the ball from time to time. And I'd like to see him kind of throw, you know, run a little play action on first down. Get, you know, Prep is pinning their ears back, thinking they're going to run and all of a sudden you're going to get a little bit better action. Then maybe your linebackers get sucked up.

That'll open up some routes across the middle hen Anderson and Lawson all split to the left side and Brugman wide to the right. Second down and nine at their own 44 here. Abshire takes the snap, fades back, throws short, has a catch, breaking a tackle. This is Brugman inside the 40, down inside the 35, cuts to his left, gets to the 30, tries to spin out of another tackle and get spilled all the way down at about the 28 yard line. Huge play.

First down. Great job of the tackle there. And that was Luciano Reynolds that came over to finally make the tackle downfield. But heck of a big play and he's had a couple of those tonight. Nice job by Brugman.

That's his third catch and he's had some biggies. 28 yards on that one and a Damon orthodontics. First down to The Gonzaga Prep 28 yard line. Second quarter of play. 10 6.

Gonzaga Prep leading Central Valley. CVs showing that they can throw on this, this secondary a little bit, Larry, and that's giving this Bear offense some confidence. The wind has calmed considerably here this evening from where it was a little while ago. First down and 10 at the bullpup 28 yard line out of the gun. Abshire takes the high snap, hands it to Kelly, trying to get outside on the right side, being extended to the sidelines, hit and brought down back at the 30 yard line.

Great job by the bullpup defense. They had five or six players just stringing him out to the sidelines and they finally bring him down for a loss of two. That's the old pursuit drill that everybody runs, but prep has been running it for for a long, long time. And they do a great job of hustling down the line of scrimmage, keeping their angles and their leverage and really makes it tough. There's not a lot of areas to cut back and you can't bounce because there's a corner out there forcing everything back inside.

And that's where that play was made. Great job by the corner to come up, engage the wide receiver, force him back inside. Guess where all your helps out and they were there. I have Kelly at eight carries for four yards so far in this ball game. He's a good back.

Second down and 12 now for the Bears. Ball on the right hash at the bullpup. 34 wide, two to either side. And did they learn out of time? I think they did.

They've been with right on the bubble. Yep. They've been right down to the one or so on the play clock a bunch. And that time it burned him a five yard delay. A game penalty.

That's the third five yard penalty for Seavee in the ball game. But now it is second and 17 back at the 35 of Gonzaga Prep. Brgman with Kelly in the backfield, or rather Abshire with Kelly in the backfield. Brugman is split to the right, three men to the left and they've got problems again. They're down to five in the play clock and they're not aligned yet.

Down to two, down to one, they get this play off. Rolling to the left is Abshire. Now pursued, stops, runs back to the right, gets a block, throws to the sideline. And is this ball caught or not on the sidelines? We're trying to wait and see if it is caught.

It's not for much yardage. Looks like it is. Down to the 34 yard line. That's only a one yard gain. You know, that was just a great job of coming back for the ball.

I think that was Rugmire again, but you know, he didn't get very much yardage on that because his quarterback was running for his life. Great pressure up front by Gonzaga Prep. Now you've got, you know, Prep's got him where they want him. It's a manageable third and down. H.

T. higgins likes to blitz. In this case, third and 15 after that two yard gain. Third and 15 from the bullpup 33. They rush four.

Here's a deep throw, left side looking for Lawson. And he overthrew him. Lawson was open, but overthrown by a couple of yards. And so it'll be fourth down. That was pretty good coverage out there.

That was Gregory Flynn, the corner that was out there on. And that ball just sailed a little bit, kind of flew out of bounds. Wasn't really a lot of wind there. So he just. You've got to give your wide receiver a chance.

They start on the 10 yard line basically, and then you've got about 7, 8 yards that you can fade over there. And he just threw that out of bounds. No chance. They're going for it on fourth down here. Abshire, seven out of 10, 114 yards unofficially here in this ball game.

So fourth and 15 now for Central Valley at the Gonzaga Prep 33. They're still at plenty of time on the game clock or on the play clock here, and they're just trying to draw them offside here is what they're trying to do. And we have whistles and a timeout taken by Central Valley. So a timeout here for Central valley. We have 8:42 remaining to play.

So fourth down here, we'll see what Central Valley elects to do. They're kind of in no man's land here. They have it at the 33 yard line. They gain any yards at all, it's not too much different than a punt that goes into the end zone. Well, that's just it.

I mean, you know, say they get 7, 8 yards on the thing, they turn the ball over, but you punt the ball, you're gonna punt it in the end zone, it's gonna come out to the 20 anyway. So I think they're gonna take a shot. They're gonna have one receiver run a deep route, bring another receiver underneath them about 10, 15 yards downfield on kind of an in slash post route. And let's see if that opens up. That would be the route that I would look for, you know, if I'm.

I'm Abshire. So they have hen, Anderson and Lawson all split to the left, ball near the right hash mark and Brugman out wide to the right. Fourth and 15 at the Gonzaga Prep 33. Abshire takes the snap, rolls to the left side, sets up, fires the ball deep, left side into the end zone, overthrown, looking for Henn. And so it is an incomplete pass.

And Gonzaga Prep will take over on downs at their own 33 yard line. That was just good defense. And I think you had the astute observation about them being in no man's land. And they took a shot. They wanted to, you know, to go for everything trying to get a touchdown out of this thing.

And that took a perfect pass. Just couldn't fit that ball into that back window there. It just sailed kind of harmlessly out of the back of the end zone. And they've got confidence in their defense. They trail 10, 6 here early.

Part of the second quarter still. First down and 10 prep at their own 33 from the left hash, they move left to right in front of us and they will run option to the right side and McKenna will keep spin off of one tackle and get run back from about the 34 yard line. Pretty good job by that Central Valley defense. As in on the stop was gravel the linebacker. Also Bowden came up from a safety spot and helped kind of clean that up as well.

So those safeties are getting active. I would not be surprised to see prep take a shot downfield here because they're really creeping up there. Within seven yards of the line of scrimmage. Gain of a couple of yards there for McKenna. Second down and eight for the bullpups motion coming now from Deshain.

Goes behind the play and they faked the option and running to the right side now is the quarterback and he gets out to about the 38 before he is brought down. Bowden was there for the defense along with Riley Phillips, kind of third imaginable. You think this is. It would be a passing down, but this is also down that, you know, prep has done a nice job of getting six, seven, eight yards on that, that outside option pitch. And they usually like to go to the wide side in that three yards for McKenna there.

Third and five, Gonzaga Prep at their own 38. And now they stand at the line and look back at the bench with 15 still on the play clock here. 10 6. Gonzaga Prep with the lead mid second quarter. And McKenna takes the snap, runs to the left, pitches to the left side, running to the left sidelines this Collier 45, 50, first down inside the 45, spins out of a tackle, inside the 40, down inside the 35, and is finally knocked down down at the 31 yard line.

Damon Orthodontics, first down on third and five, and they pick up 31 yards. And that was just well blocked on the outside. Great job by the end. Basically the tackle to hook the end. Excellent job by the wide receiver out there to see and that gave him a little alley and he hit it lickety split.

Great job. Collier with the big first down play there. Down to the 31 yard line. Out of the pistol formation. The quarterback, McKenna fakes the handoff, fumbles the ball and it's recovered back at the 39 yard line.

He got crushed by three bears and the ball popped out, but it was recovered all the way back at the 39 yard line by Hilburn. That's a loss of eight yards. Remember, McKinnon's a tough kid. He's also a hockey guy and probably will have a chance to go on and play some collegiate hockey if he wants so that he's not worried about taking that hit. But fumbling the football, that's an issue.

Second and 18 now for the bullpups at the bear 39. McKenna takes the snap, wants to throw, looks to the left side, throws and it's dropped. He had a man open running down the left sidelines. Might have been Collier and he just couldn't hang on to the football. Yeah, that went right through the old noodle there.

He had a little peach basket catching. He just couldn't pull it in. He looked up, you could see his head kind of glance down the field to see where he was on the field. He just didn't look it in and slid through his hands at the ground. He's going to be upset about that.

Collier, the intended receiver there. So now third and 18 for Gonzaga Prep at the Central Valley 39. DeShain, I believe, is the lone wide receiver. Split to the right. Everybody else is in tight and they will run option to the right side.

This is COLLIER Inside the 35, uses a stiff arm, gets inside the 30 and is wrestled out of bounds at the 29 yard line. And so it sets up a fourth down that prep could go for here, fourth and eighth. Well, that's manageable. You know, it's, it's, it. It's probably right outside their range for field goal as well.

And I think they're in a similar situation, kind of a no man's land as well. Remember the last time they had, they had third or fourth and long, they went for it. They had that big run on the left side, down the sideline in front of Prep for that first down run. Well, the option has worked well for these guys to get it to the outside. Colliers had 11, 15, 31 and 10 yard gains and seven carries.

He's had seven total carries. His other carries have been for five, seven and three yards. So fourth down and eight, Gonzaga Prep, they're down to three on their play clock. They're not at the line of scrimmage. They're going to take a timeout.

And so prep takes a timeout here. And we have 607 remaining to play here in the second quarter and it's still 10, 6 Gonzaga Prep. And so I'm gonna bring everybody right now, play man coverage on the outside. Bring your safeties up for support in the alleys. So fourth down and eight, Gonzaga Prep. The Central Valley fans down below us whooping it up here, trying to encourage their defense. Fourth and eight at the Bear 29.

McKenna fakes the handoff, pump fake, wants to throw deep into the end zone, down the right side to Shane, just overthrown off his fingertips. Overthrow him by maybe 6 inches. And Gonzaga Prep turns it over on downs. And we will have a timeout on the field and we will take a break as well. We are about six minutes remaining to play here in the second quarter.

It's 601 remaining to play in the second quarter. We'll take a timeout. Hard to do. First down and 10 CV at their own 29. And on first down they'll run it off the left side. Big opening 35, 40, 45 and out of bounds goes Kelly up near the midfield stripe. Before he has run out of bounds, they'll put him back at the 45.

A 16 yard run and a Damon orthodox. First down, 10 to 6 score right now. Plenty of time here if Central Valley can put together a nice little drive. Remember, prep is going to get the football to start the third quarter as they kicked off to start the game. This would be a big momentum boost for the Bears going in at halftime.

First down and 10 ball up to their own 45. Now they'll run it again off the left side. Kelly kind of beat his feet again, then bounced outside and gets a couple or three yards. Looks like up around the 47 or 48. That'll be.

Looks like they'll put him at the 48. So a three yard gain. They're attacking that left side. They're having some success going against the left side or the right side of the Gonzaga prep defense there and Kelly's doing a nice job of trying to find that hole, but sometimes there's just not much running room there.

You just gotta stick your nose down and kind of burrow your way up field if you can. Second and seven ball at their own 48 on the left hash for Centro Valley. They have two tight ends in the game and only two wide receivers. Both split to the left or both split to the right, rather motion to the left and they'll hand it off again. Running to the left is Kelly, hitting the backfield this time and stop for a loss.

Looks like they'll get him back at about the 47 yard line, maybe the 46, as they had Miller in there and McKernan once again. And it looks like we have a marker down as well. We'll see what that's all about. Reynolds also came in from the linebacker spot, turned that back inside, did a nice job of containing that thing and that's really the strength. That's what you're looking for, really.

Not a lot of running room for him up the middle. He tried to bounce it. No place to bounce outside that's going against prep. 5 yards, 5 yard face mask call it. Looks like that'll be tacked on to the End of the run.

So it's not a grab, it's just kind of a touch. Yeah, good word. Yep, that's exactly what that is. So a loss of a yard on the run, but then a gain of five on the penalty. So it adds up to four yards on the play.

And the down holds the ball now at the 48 of Gonzaga Prep. It's third down and three. Brugman on the outside, his corner was playing way off him. He's in press, man. Let's see if he bails right before the play.

Three wide receivers to one, left to right, they hand it off. Running to the left side. First down run inside the 40 yard line, and finally getting knocked out of bounds is the running back and that was Kyle Parkman. And we'll see why. They give him here on the near sidelines, but close to the 35 and another first down.

Well, just an excellent job of kind of weaving his way up field. A nice job by by Central Valley up front because they're holding their blocks, they're keeping, you know, that defensive line contained. And then the wide receivers are doing a nice job on the corners and the safeties, you know, so there's really some nice running room once they can bounce it outside, get through that initial surge. Parkman gains 12 down to the 36. First down and 10.

Central Valley at the prep 36. Ball on the left hash Abshire out of the gun, takes the snap, rolls to the right side, looking downfield, throws to the right sidelines. And that ball is incomplete. That was a beautiful hit put on the receiver, running to the sidelines, trying to see if that was Brugman and it was not. That was Lawson and he got clobbered and I couldn't see who clobber.

And it wasn't a target either. It was just a legitimate hit. He got there the same time the ball did and looked like he's kind of favoring his. His left leg there a little bit. He took a heck of a pop trying to catch that.

Perfect timing, you know, to come in there and separate him from the ball. But Larson doesn't want to come out, but he may have to. He's injured. And so it'll be second down and 10 here and Lawson will limp off, be met by an athletic trainer. And so it'll be second down and 10 from the 36 yard line here.

That was a violent hit, but legal. Yep. Perfect timing. I mean, that's got there the same time the ball did and got him right in the chest. Legitimate play, kind of upended him and hopefully that young man will be okay.

Saunders and Bowden go to the left side. Saunders in motion now rolling to the right of Zabshire. Looking downfield. Pressure coming, throws incomplete. I think Brugman was probably the intended receiver.

He was the closest one to it. And so it'll be third and long now for the Bears. Just good coverage downfield. You know, on that particular play that was Flynn again who was all over Brugman that time, just right next to him. So really no place to go.

Good coverage. And again the ends for Prep are getting up field. They're getting double teamed right now by a tackle and also the running back. And he just blew through the running back and really got an Abshire's face and caused some problems with pressure. Three straight incompletions for Abshire.

Third and 10 for CV at the 35 yard line of Gonzaga Prep. Four wide receivers, two to either side. Abshire takes the snap, fades back. Pressure coming from a blitz, throws right side, has a catch inside the 30 and diving forward short of a first down to the 27 goes the receiver. And that's going to bring up fourth down and fairly short.

Trying to see who that was. Anderson, the receiver there. That time they brought a safety blitz from the wide side of the field, but he started too far out there. By the time he got there, the pass was already out and he had manned coverage. So nice job by Abshire to read that.

He went right to the spot where the safety vacated with that blitz and threw the ball out there and had a completion. So a gain of eight, fourth down and two. Now from the 27 yard line, two receivers go to the right side and they will run it. And not getting there off the right side is the running back. Looks like they'll stop in the 26.

Ephraim Watkins was there to help knock him down. Parkman, the running back, and it looks like he's going to be a little short. Be a nice defensive stand if that's the case. And looks like it is, yeah. So they'll stop him at the 26 yard line a yard short of a first down.

And the Gonzaga Prep defense holds on down and they get the ball back with 351 remaining here in the first half. And prep on top, 10 to 6. Arby's restaurants at Spokane. They have three great restaurants around the area. They're proud to sponsor the Greater Spokane League.

Remember Arby's? We have the meat. So Gonzaga Prep takes over now at their own 26. First down and 10 and there goes McKenna on a little crossbuck action. He crosses the 30 yard line and has taken off his feet as he gets to about the 33.

Faked the handoff going to the right and then he ran it to the left and picks up about seven yards. You know, good open field tackling we've seen on both sides, both the Bears and the Bullpups. You know, kind of man to man out there on the own. One on one. And they're making the.

They're making the tackle in the open field. That's hard to do. Second down and about four yards for a first down. They'll run option to the left side. There's a pitch to the outside.

Getting out over 40 and getting spilled up at about the 43 is I believe, Collier. Nope, it's Ortega on the run that time. Give him to the 44 and a Damon orthodontics first down. You know, Central Valley may have left a little bit too much time for prep. They're doing a nice job of moving down the field.

Still 313 to go here in the second quarter. Nice drive. Developing gain of 11 for Ortega. First down and 10. And on first down, they will throw the ball over the middle, wide open.

This is Collier 40, 35, 30 cuts to his right. Duncan dodges one man and is spilled inside the 25. Parkman got him down at the 23 yard line, but they finally came up with a passing play there and it works for a huge passing gain, 32 yards. Remember we talked about those safeties creeping up that time? He was lined up in the.

Basically the wing, just ran a seam route right down the middle. He was wide open, the safety was up and run support. Great job. Good pass, good catch. First down and 10.

Prep at the CV28. They'll run option left side. McKenna keeps it and burrows down to about the 20. They'll put him at the 21. A gain of only two on that run.

And that time I believe it was George Sanko in the middle for a gunza for his Central Valley that brought him down after that two yard pickup. Yeah, you could hear his dad in the stands yelling, good job, George. Nice tackle. I like that. Way to go, pop.

So second down and eight. Clock running here. We're late. First half. 10, 6 Gonzaga Prep with the lead over Central Valley.

Wide receivers to either side, everybody else in tight wings to either side. And they will run it up the middle. Ortega dives down inside the 20, gets maybe to the 19 or 18 yard lines and we'll see who his last man up off the pile there for Central Valley. It looked like it was Sam Brown in on that stop. Well, good job by both these defenses.

They've stiffened inside the 20 yard line, the red zone area. They've made it difficult. Big plays have been, you know, the game. With the exception of the 1 yard touchdown run by Ortega, you've had big plays, you know, by Central Valley. They've been tough.

Inside the 20. A minute 45 remaining to go here. Third down and long. They run up, pitch it left side. Collier 15, cuts outside to the 10.

He'll have another first down. He is taken down at the nine yard line and that's a gain of 10 more yards and another Damon Orthodontics. First down. They're going wide side of the field. They're using basically their wide receiver who split way out there to go one on one block on the corner.

And basically the safeties are not able to get there in time because that that avenue is so wide. They're having a tough time filling that. And they're up, picking the ball and they're doing it quickly. Allowed the back to catch that ball, plant that foot, get up field and make a cut. Clock down to a minute 18 remaining to play here in the first half and they're letting the time go down.

There's still 25 on the play clock here. First down, goal to go. Gonzaga Prep at the CV9. And they're just standing there, they're waiting there. They've got a couple of timeouts remaining.

They're just letting the clock count down. Inside of one minute now. McKenna takes the snap, fakes the handoff, pitches it, ball on the ground, recovered by Central Valley. McKenna pitched it behind Hilburn and it was recovered by the Bears. And I believe coming out of there with that fumble was Riley Phillips.

Yep, that was a biggie. And Gonzaga Prep gives it up on the first turnover of the ball game and Central Valley has it back at their own 13 yard line. When you have to pitch as much as Gonzaga Prep does, you know you put yourself in a position we've seen another time the ball was on the ground after that huge hit at McKenna, but prep was able to recover at this time.

Great job by Phillips to come over, find that goose egg laying down there and jumping on it and getting that ball back for the Bears. Huge play before halftime. Loss of 4 yards and the loss of the ball, which is even more important. So first down and 10. Central Valley at their own 13 yard line here.

Less than a minute remaining. First half high snap. They hand it off off the right side, bouncing outside, Getting across the 15 is the running back and he will get to about the 16 or 17 yard line. That's Kelly back in there and the officials will put him at the 16 for a gain of three. Clock still running down to 35 seconds left.

They they need one more play. You know if nobody calls a timeout here and that'll end the half. Still 17 here on the play clock so they have plenty of time. They do have to run one more play from scrimmage here. Abshire the quarterback calls the signals, takes the snap, hands it off, bouncing outside to the right side.

It's Kelly trying to break a tackle. Can't do it. Brought down right at about the line of scrimmage. Pretty good defensive play there for Gonzaga Prep as I think that was McKernan that brought him down right at the line of scrimmage. And that ends the second quarter of play.

Here we are at halftime and quite a first half and kind of a tale of two quarters. Paul Sorensen, as in the first quarter was all offense and Gonzaga Prep had a 106 lead. And that's where we still stand at halftime because the teams each had drives in the second quarter of play but nobody could really get inside the red zone. Well and I think once they did, it was tough to score. You know, he had that really nice drive to start the game off for for Gonzaga Prep with Ortega scoring from one yard out.

But they had to grind it. And then a big play for Central Valley, you know, it really kind of opened some things up and then the field goal. But other than that, the defenses have kind of stepped up. They're as good as advertised. We talked about them giving up eight and seven points respectively, you know, for the two teams and really teams have had a difficult time scoring against both Central Valley and Gonzaga Prep on the season.

And Central Valley and Gonzaga Prep are finding out why they're good. Absolutely. So here's a recap here. The first half of play, Central Valley got the ball to start the game. Had to punt.

Gonzaga Prep scored their first touchdown or their only touchdown on an eight play 61 yard drive. Those cap by a Jaden Ortega one yard rushing touchdown. The point after good it was seven to nothing. Central Valley comes right back. Three plays, a ten yard pass, a nine yard pass and then a 51 yard touchdown pass and run from Luke Abshire to Lawson.

The PAT was blocked and so is 7 to 6 at that point. Gonzaga Prep then got a big kickoff return. They took over at the CB43 and they were able to get a couple of first downs. They got the ball down inside the 10. In fact, I think got it to the three as about as close as they could get.

Then they got knocked back for a loss to Shane, a 25 yard field goal. It was 10 6. Central Valley took over. They drove the ball down into Gonzaga Prep territory, but turned it over inside the 35 yard line on downs. Gonzaga Prep then drove, they took it inside the second Central Valley 30, turned it over on downs.

CV drove, got the ball down inside the prep 30. They turned it over on downs. Prep took over. They got down to the CV 13 yard line or got down actually to the nine yard line and then fumbled the ball on a pitch that was not handled and Central Valley recovered the fumble, the only turnover the first half.

And CV ran out the clock and that's where we stand. 106 in favor of Gonzaga prepare Riley Phillips, the middle linebacker was the young man that recovered that fumble. There's another fumble earlier that CV had a chance to get after a huge hit on Ryan McKenna that forced the ball out of there. But Prep was able to recover that. So Prep has put the ball down the ground twice here in this first half and even though one's only been recovered, that's something that they're going to have to clean up.

And you know, Coach McKenna is going to talk about that. You know, on the Prep side, Ryan Butner is going to talk about contest, continuing to play hard, take advantage of opportunities. This is going to be one of those games that may come down to that last possession. Absolutely. We are at the intermission.

Kind of a wild season to say the least. You know, it's nice to be back to in football. And as weird as this has been, kind of arena indoor, arena football ish, it seems like it's just nice to be out here. And these kids were at least able to get seven games in and that's better than zero. Some teams got seven games.

Yeah, that's teams got less than that, but still they got games in. And this is our last football broadcast for this season. We will be back with basketball in the month of May. That seems weird too. And so ready to go.

Central Valley will kick it Off. They'll defend the goal to our left. That means Prep will be moving from right to left in front of us. And our second half kickoff again brought to you by Papa Murphy's change the way you. Here's the kick.

A ground ball downfield. This will roll back, get bounce off one Prep player. Go back to the 15, grabbed by McKernan out over the 25 to 30. And flags come flying in from all over the place as McKiernan gets out to about the 34 yard line. But one would think we're either gonna get a face mask or a hold.

That would make sense. Or a clip or some kind of an illegal block. I thought you, you nailed it in the first half. It was really kind of an offensive dominant performance by both of these teams. In the second half, it was the defense that stepped up.

That was a little five yard penalty. Maybe another little gentle grab on the face mask. So I guess these guys are doing a nice job of seeing the gentle grab as opposed to the Linda Blair head spin, you know, twisty off the helmet thingy. So Prep starts at their own 39 from the right hash. First down and 10.

Ortega in the backfield right next to McKenna, the quarterback with his long flowing locks out from underneath the bottom of his helmet. They hand it off, run into the left side. This is Collier breaking one tackle and he gets up to about the 43 or 44 yard line. Hanging on for dear life. There for Central Valley was Trevor Gravel, the linebacker.

Boy, he took a pop too. That was impressive. He took a pop, he was still able to hang on and. And finally wrap that up. But good effort that time by Prep running the ball.

Collier got five, second and five now from the 44. And they will hand it off up the middle. And Ortega will be spilled out close to first down. Nope. They'll spot him back at the 47, it looks like.

So that'll be a gain of three. One thing about quarterback, when you're running the option, you're going to get hit. Ryan McKenna got blasted that time because they have assignment football. So over half, the quarterback came in and made sure even though he didn't have the ball, they still tackled him. Third and two, bullpups at their own 47.

Ball in the center of the field. McKenna out of the pistol. And now. Time called. I think somebody moved.

I think that might be against Prep. They're gonna move that back five yards. Yeah. False start. So a five yard penalty on Gonzaga Prep.

That's their fifth penalty, unofficially here in the ball game. You know, that's something. Sometimes you can influence that as a defensive lineman, you know, with a shift or a twist. Sometimes guys will say something, they'll bark, which is, you know, could be a penalty. By the way, if you try to encourage a snap account, make it sound like the snap at that time, they get somebody on the prep offensive line to jump.

All spotted back to the 42 yard line. Third down and seven now for Gonzaga Prep. And they will run the option and they'll pitch it back on a reverse. This is Deshain running The left side 40, 45, 50. Cuts to his right 45, 40 into the secondary 30, 25, 20.

Foot race inside the 15 and is finally brought down as he crossed the 10 yard line. Deshain all the way down to the 7. A rip pitch back reverse and a huge play for Gonzaga Prep. A pickup of 51 yards, I believe. And Deshain ended up tripping over one of the defensive backs that was laying on the ground.

If he would have been able to step over that young man, he ends up scoring. But what a great run. Very well blocked. An excellent play goal by Gonzaga Prep on the offensive staff. A gain of 50 as the officials spot the ball back at the eight on first down and goal running it is Ortega and not finding much in the way of running room at all.

We'll see why they give him for forward progress, but he got nothing at most and maybe lost a yard or two on the play. The officials will spot the ball at the nine for a loss of a yard. That defensive front has been stout for the Bears. They've had a tough time breaking through that. They've had their success on the outside with that option pitch.

Second and goal from the nine, pistol formation. McKenna will throw over the middle. That ball is caught. That is a touchdown Gonzaga Prep. So an unexpected pass there for Gonzaga Prep.

Hilburn hauls in a nine yard receiving touchdown. And Gonzaga Prep with a great drive here in the third quarter, takes a 16 to 6 lead. They like to do that down there. They get everybody sucked inside and the tight end will just slip right down the field. Looks like he's gonna block on the linebacker.

Then he just releases and that's really tough. Great job. Very well designed play. Excellent play calling by the offensive staff for Gonzaga Prep. So Hilburn gets the nine yard receiving touchdown there and Deshain will try the point to make this a 17, 6 ballgame.

There's the snap, the spot, the kick. And it is good. And so now it is Gonzaga Prep 17 and Central Valley 6 with 949 remaining to play here in the third quarter. Well, that reverse, Larry, really set this up, you know, big time. They got Central Valley flowing because they were doing such a good job on that option pitch, you know, out into the alleys there.

So everybody was flying that way. And then they just came back with a reverse using the wide receiver Duchenne and he got great blocking. There were five offensive lineman, a tight end or wide receiver downfield blocking for him and just an excellent job of, of calling that at the right time. They set this defense up. They use their speed and their, you know, their pursuit against them and it worked out in a big way.

It's Central Valley has done a good job defending the main characters here for, for Gonzaga Prep. McKenna has 8 yards, 6 yards rushing on, on nine carries. I believe it. Let's see, 2, 4, 6, 7 carries and Ortega has 12 carries for 31 yards according to my numbers. But Collier has 97 on nine carries and then DeShain on the reverse, 50 yards.

Well, and those two plays have gone outside. Also the passing, you know, they've had some big pass plays as well because they got basically CV to suck in. Those safety's got bad eyes and you get a guy coming out, looks like he's going to block you, runs right by you. That's the hardest thing to do. That's like the fullback coming out.

He's blocked you the entire game. Then he releases in the flat and you have no chance. Here's the kickoff. High downfield. Elise Saunders from the five yard line up the right side, gets to the 15, spins out of one tackle.

But we stopped short of the 20. He's run out of bounds around the 17 or thereabouts it looks like we'll see where they give him for forward progress and central valuable. He's starting out inside their own 20. Well, it's very important now for CV to counter. They did that the last time with that big 51 yard pass to Lawson.

But they've got to come back and I think they're going to have to throw the football, Larry. They've got to start, you know, stepping up and throwing that ball downfield. Curls slants, maybe a little sluggo, which is a slant and go try to get some moves, buy some time up front. But he's going to need to throw the football ball just nose to the 20 yard line. So he got it out a little farther than I thought he did.

First down and 10 for Central Valley at their own 20 yard line from the right hash and they will run it on first down. Kelly trying to get outside on the right side, gets out of one tackle, but doesn't get much as he gets pushed out of bounds along the sidelines. They haven't had as much success running to the right as they have to the left in this game. Short gain, if any. Well, there was an offensive lineman out there for, for cv, but he whiffed on the guy that ended up pushing the running back out of the play.

So if he makes that block, there would have been some nice running room there for him to get up field. Would have gotten a first down, if not more. Loss of a yard, back to the 19 yard line. And so it'll be second and 11 now and there's a penalty on the play. So that's gonna wipe out that loss of yardage as Central Valley is going to be hit with a hold.

I believe that's going to mark it back to the 10 and bring up first and 20. And that's where prep is dangerous, that they'll bring pressure here. They've done a nice job of of scoring on defense down in this area with snaps, fumbles, interceptions, all those kinds of things. This is a defense that likes to turn the football over. So first down and 20 now for the Bears.

Ball on the right hash at their own 10. Brugman split to the right. They've got two receivers split to the left. And rolling to the left side is Abshire. And he went down.

I think he slipped and went down, but he had Kazmelza right there in front of him as well. So he may have gone down on his own inside the five. Looks like back at the two for a loss of eight. Well, now you can sit back. And this is also a time where H.

T. higgins likes to blitz because he wants to get some points. He's gonna try to get a safety. He may force the issue or they'll fake the blitz and then just drop back and rush three, drop eight. Second and 28 now for Central Valley.

Back at their own two yard line. Abshire takes the snap, fakes the handoff, throws a deep ball on the right side. Looking for his man out there. Brugman in the pass overthrown. Incomplete.

Pretty good coverage out there for Gonzaga Prep as they had a couple of guys back there on coverage. It looked like it was Webster that was back there along with Reynolds. Oh, no. Jinhu Choi. I'm sorry.

Yep, Choi, he was the corner there, did a nice job because he didn't play the ball. He played the man, he stayed right in his shirt and made it really tough for him to, you know, basically to catch that football. And he didn't interfere with him. He just ran stride for stride with him right down the sidelines. That's good corner coverage.

So third and 28 now from their own two for Central Valley. The wind has picked back up again and Abshire will throw from his end zone, wants to go deep again, ducking down the right side and just overthrown just off the fingertips of his intended receiver down there. And that was Lawson. And So it'll be fourth down and 28 and they'll punt from their own two. Brugman basically ran a slant route and then Lawson ran a wheel route.

So he basically. They just switched outright. Side receiver went in, inside receiver ran out and he was open. That ball is maybe a step a little less thrown down the field. That's a big play.

They get the first down and maybe even more. Cole Nelson has his heels right at the end line there for this punt snap. And Luciano Reynolds stands at the 35 of Central Valley to receive this punt. And he gets it out of there. A high kick short downfield.

It's going to hit at the 25 and bounce straight up in the air and be killed at about the 20, 24 yard line by Central Valley. And so Gonzaga Prep with great field position at the CV24, they lead at 17 6. And McKenna will pitch it to the left side. Ball fumbled, loose on the sidelines, picked up by Central Valley. Another fumble for Gonzaga Prep as that ball got stripped out of the hands of the running back, Nick Barkley. And it was recovered by the Bears by Phillips again. That's number two.

Riley Phillips was the guy that picked that thing up. How about that? Two fumble recoveries here today. Big plays. And that gets excellent field position for Central Valley.

And the defense turns the ball over once again. So a loss of four on the play and Central Valley will take over at their own 28 here. So they dodge a bullet, giving it up at their own 24 to Gonzaga prep and now they take it over at their own 28 after the first play and the fumble ball on the right hash. Two receivers to either side. The quarterback, Abshire hands it off, working the right side.

Kelly has a room, gets out over the 25, 35 yard line and gets blasted out of bounds as he gets up to allowing the 40 yard line. That'll be a pickup at 12 and I believe a joy a first down presented by Damon Orthodontics. That was Choi. Again, the number 27. The corner out there came in and cleaned up that play.

But again you see a little bit. This was. That was a huge turnover, Larry, because that could have put the game potentially out of reach with a touchdown drive. Now CV has some life again. Only down 17 6, they score here.

They're right back in this game. 14 carries, 37 yards unofficially for Kelly in this one. First down and 10. Prep at their own 40. Motion from Lawson through the left, rolling to the left.

Abshire being pursued and he is sacked. Ephraim Watkins got him back inside the 35 yard line. We'll see where the official spotted neck. They're gonna put it inside the 30, actually. Back of the 29.

Boy, he just picked the center up that time, Larry. Just cast him aside like he was, you know, a sheet of paper and just did an excellent job then at getting up field and really no place, you know, for Abshire to go as he looked up and there was, you know, number 90 staring at him going, hey, I'm going to tackle you now. 275 pound nose guard. Watkins with the sack. 2nd and 21 after the loss of 11 there on first down.

Abshire from the gun, takes the snap, fades back, looks to the right, being pressured, runs to the right side, throws to the sidelines incomplete. And now he's getting a little happy feet back there. I didn't think he had to move that time, but he did because he felt a little bit of pressure and so it'll bring up the third and long. Well, that time what they did is they did a little stem move where they brought the. The outside backer inside.

They brought the tackle then to the outside. The defensive end Melzer went inside and Watkins then went outside. They just stunted and kind of confused Central Valley's offensive line. But I agree completely with your assessment. He could have stayed in that pocket.

He had time to do that, but he flushed to his left and. And ran before he really needed to. 7:42 remaining to play. Third quarter, 17:6 Gonzaga prep the lead, third and 21 CV and Abshire will fade straight back again. Pressured now, runs to the left, now spins back to the right.

He's all the way back to his own 10 yard line. Running to the right to the sidelines. Throws. Incomplete. Ball was grabbed out there by Choi, but he was out of bounds or the ball bounced in.

And so it's an incomplete pass and brings up fourth down. Well, that time everything was compressed to the sidelines, to the tight side of the field. Then the receivers basically tried to come back, but they just ran out of room. They just didn't have enough room to do what they wanted to do to come back and help their quarterback. So that was, that was just a messed up play from the get go.

Luciano Reynolds stands back inside his own 45 to receive this punt now from Nelson. Good snap. Back waist tie and the boot away kick knocked down by the wind. And a fair catch called for and taken at the 46 yard line, it looks like by Reynolds. And that's where the officials will put it, right at the 46 and Gonzaga Prep will take over.

First down and 10. Well, give Prep's defense credit. They, you know, the offense fumbled the ball for the second time tonight and yet they come in and they get a stop. They drove them the opposite direction. Still don't get great field position, but a heck of a lot better than Central Valley having the football, that's for sure.

First down and 10. Ball on the left hash at their own 46. McKenna from the pistol, fakes the handoff, runs option to the right side and gets close to the 50 yard line before he is knocked off his feet. They'll gain four yards there on first down, bring up second and six. Well that just now they can kind of control the clock.

This is where they do a good job Prep does of wearing a team down. They just keep you on the field, they keep grinding. You get kind of tired and beat up and then you make that one mistake and they have a big play. Second down and six. Ball at midfield near the left hash.

McKenna takes the snap, fakes the handoff, runs option pitches to Collier around the right side. 45, 40 down the sidelines. Pushed out of bounds at the 37A Gonzaga Prep. That's going to be another first down pickup there for the bullpups. Great block on the outside by Ortega over there.

Give Collier a chance to get around the corner. He just flew. Who was actually in really good position to turn that back inside. But you had a lead block that took him out of the play, springing him for that, that first down run, 13 yard pickup for Collier. He's over 100 yards rushing in the game.

First and 10 bullpups at the bear 37 again, pistol formation, Ortega behind McKenna and they'll run option left side, pitch it to Ortega, trying to get outside that is hemmed in, but he gets a nice move and then bowls over a defender and is going to get a couple or three yards and now comes in probably for a late hit out of bounds on Central Valley or somebody said something and that, that could be a no, no. Oh, it's against CV because the guy ripped his helmet off and he's getting chewed by a coach. I think it was Saunders who may have hit him out of bounds. And now official has his hat off over there too. So might have been two penalty.

Yep, exactly what I was going to say. A lot of times when that happens, he's throwing his flag already, so he's got to throw something else. And rather than a sock or a shoe, it's his hat. I think a shoe would be good. That would be appropriate.

Especially if a guy was a potty mouth, you doink him off the shoulder pad with your shoe. That's a good example. It says something. It's like, dude, come on, man. So instead of throwing my hat, you got a shoe?

Because that's a no, no. So four of the five officials talking it over and there might even be two penalties. I think there is. I mean, but two. Two different penalties.

So consecutive penalties. So one might be walked off and then another. Oh, against the same team. Against the same team, yes. So like maybe a late hit out of bounds and then an unsportsmanlike conduct and that would be a biggie because then basically that's handing, you know, some outstanding field position to an offense that's starting to get back on track again.

And I'm going to give Central Valley's defense a lot of credit. I think they played very, very well in this game. You know, with some difficult field position, they've hung in there, you know, only giving up 17 points. Could have been a lot worse. They've gotten two turnovers, two fumble recoveries, and sportsmanlike conduct on Gonzaga prep and sportsmanlike conduct on cv.

So nothing. And so they're just gonna put the ball back at the 37 yard line and treat it like nothing happened. Nothing happened. First down and 10. So two penalties, but they offset it wasn't two on the same team, so there might have been a late hit and then both guys kind of got in each other's grill.

And said some things. And with Tim Peterson over there, he doesn't let that stuff go. He's going to call that. He's one of those guys that adjudicates that well and I think that's excellent officiating because it calms stuff down. You take that, that heat away because they know if they're going to do it, they're going to get penalized.

But they're still talking. So maybe there was a third thing that came into play. We haven't talked about that late hit of bounds because it looked. It looked really close. More dialogue here from the officials.

So let's see. So a lot of pointing by the referee but. And he also has his back to us, so it's hard for us to. They moved it up five yards, so I don't understand that. Maybe.

Is that where the run ended? Okay, so a gain down to the 34 yard line and it'll be second down and about six here for Gonzaga Prep and they will run it. Ortega up the right side, bounces outside, gets a first down and is finally stopped down at the 20 yard line. Good little quick hitter. Gain of 14 and a Damon Orthodontics first down.

That was a nice job corner. Been able to have the big game on the outside, but Ortega knew sooner or later was going to get a couple of things because that, that was just a great job that time of blocking by the offensive line by prep. Ortega hit that hole quickly and was able to get it in the secondary before Bears could react. Down to 6:18 remaining to play. Third quarter, Gonzaga Prep with a 176 lead here over Central Valley.

And they've got it at the bear 20. First down and 10. Keeping this clock running by rolling running the football. Keep standing in bounds. Again the pistol with Ortega behind the quarterback.

McKenna. And McKenna will hand it to Ortega and he is dropped right at about the line of scrimmage. And that is a strong Bear player there. That brought him down because Ortega is £215 and he hit that hole with some speed. And I think it was Sam Brown.

No, it was. I think it was Joe Pitts that just grabbed it him and threw him down right about the line of scrimmage. Well, Pitts is 64230. He's not a tiny little lad, so that's good strength. I agree.

Second down and 10. Ball at the 20 yard line on the right hash. And they will fake the run or they fake the handoff. McKenna keeps off the right side as he faked it to Ortega, then took off around the right and gets a yard maybe to the 19. And so it'll be third down and long and what the Bears are doing, Larry, they're pursued from the backside.

They're just flying down the line of scrimmage and they're catching. They're tackling basically McKenna and the running backs by pursuit from the opposite side of the field. So they're holding up well at the point of attack. But it's that backside pursuit that's making plays. Third down, nine.

Gonzaga Prep at the CV19 again, the pistol and McKenna fakes it, wants to throw right side and it's overthrown. And a shoulder and a flag has I think or no? No, I don't think so. That was a shoulder put on the receiver out there. I think the Shane was the receiver and the shoulder came in, I believe from Sean Moore and that was a big hit.

And it'll be fourth down. I kind of like that. That's kind of old school right there. That was a little old school action. Makes an old grandpa like me happy.

Nice play. That's very close to a targeting call, but it's not illegal if they don't call. So very nice play. Good job. So fourth down and it looks like they're going to try a field goal here.

This would be a 36 yard attempt for Deshaine. Winded his back a little bit and this would give Gonzaga prep a 26 lead if he can make it. Deshain has a couple of field goals coming into this game, plus one today. Here's the kick downfield, plenty of leg and it is good. So Duchene gets the field goal and we will take a timeout.

So Gonzaga Prep will kick it off here from the 40 yard line. Bowden the middle of three players, back deep to receive for Central Valley here as Prep has taken a two touchdown lead 20 to 6 here in this ball game. Here's the kick deep end over end and this will be Saunders from the seven yard line. Running back toward the middle of the field now cuts up field, crosses the 20, gets to about the 25 yard line. He has spilled and A flag comes in so we'll see what that's all about.

And whether Central Valley instead of starting at their 25 will be back inside their 15. Might be another block in the back or a hold issue. It looks like they're put. You know that's going to go against Central Valley and that those penalties really kill you especially on special teams and it's tough. You got to try to wall the guy off but you got to be smart about is a hole.

And so another 10 yard penalty on CV. They've hurt themselves. They've been their own worst enemy with with some big penalties tonight. Well and again instead of starting at your own 25 which is not in bad field position, they're starting at their own 12 as the ball was marked 10 yards back from the spot of the foul. So that was a 13 yard loss from where they should have had the football.

And so this bear team, they could use a touchdown here. At the very least they've got to flip the field. Yep, I agree. And pin prep deep and try to get the ball back. Get a three and out and get the ball back with better field position.

First down and 10 from their own 12. Abshire wants to throw, looks to the left, throws to the left, has a catch and getting out over the 15 to about the 17 yard line is the receiver. That was Lawson and he gets about five yards on the play. Nice job by Lawson. His third catch of the day.

He's had a couple of big plays and that was just a little out route but a very good throw by Abshire showing off that arm. Doing a nice job of getting that ball out there in the flat quickly. Second down about 5 from their own 17 yard line. Now for the Bears ball on the left hash. Abshire to throw, wants to go deep right side and looking for Saunders.

And again overthrown and step for step with Saunders was Chin Wu Choi. Good coverage in the secondary. I like the way he plays out there at corner. He's very good, strong, physical kid. Can come up and force contain a corner.

He can run stride for stride on the deep route. He does a nice job on the intermediate routes as well. He's a very good defensive back. So third and five, a big play here. Coming for Central Valley at their own 17 yard line from the left hash mark they will have trips to the right side as they will have Anderson, Lawson and I think Brugman all out to that way.

Maybe it's hen out that way and back to throw it as the quarterback throws on a slant. Has a catch in a first down and sliding down across the 30 up at about the 32 or 3 yard line is Anderson. And that's good for a first down. That's Anderson's first catch of the night. That's a second catch of the night.

But that's the first time we've seen that slant route, Larry, and that's one of CV's favorite routes. It's interesting they've waited till the middle of the third quarter to kind of unleash that thing because it's been there all night. Gain of 15 on the play and a Damon Orthodontics first down up at the 32 yard line. First down and 10. Abshire looks right again, throws on the slant and that one is knocked away incomplete.

And a flag comes in for a pass interference intended for Lawson. It was batted away and it looked like a pretty good defensive play. But the flag comes flying in there. Gregory Flynn looked like he got a hand in there, but maybe he went through the arm or held an arm or something. Well, two things.

Could have been an arm hold, could have been a PI, or it could have been a target from the linebacker coming over. He may have led with a head on that because you had both the back judge and the side judge that threw a flag. So that's going to be interesting. I think it's going to be pass interference, but it wouldn't surprise me if they're going to call target. We'll see.

As the referee comes out to tell us pass interference is the call on Gonzaga Prep. It's an important drive for cv. If they can score here and cut it to one, we've got ourselves a ballgame. This is a biggie. Keeps this drive alive.

332 remaining still here in the third quarter. Plenty of time. And so the pass interference call will spot the ball at the 47 yard line. So first down and 10, Gonzaga Prep, unofficially six penalties. 60 yards in the ball game.

First down and 10 for Central Valley. A little pop pass run into the right side. Lawson is going to get knocked out of bounds for a loss. Yeah, that was. They smelled that out right from the get go.

That was just good defense. And you always check back and I think that was Kevin McKinnon 42 that was over there. That did a nice job of kind of forcing that to bounce. The bounce. Basically Lawson to the outside and then pursuit just kind of overwhelmed him and he lost a couple yards.

So kind of tough to run against this, this prep defense, sideline to sideline like that. It's a Little pop pass where the guy in motion cuts in front of the quarterback who just kind of shovels it ahead to him. And so a loss of two on that passing gain. Second down and 12 back to throw at Abshire. Deep ball, looking on the left side.

Nobody there. And the pass incomplete. Corner jammed the wide receiver out of bounds and threw him into the prep sidelines. So there wasn't a receiver within 20 yards of that pass because he got creamed. And so It'll bring up third and long now, third and 12 for Central Valley at their own 45, trailing 20 to six here as we wind down in the third, third quarter of play.

Seavee with under 20 seconds on the play clock as they get themselves organized now at the line of scrimmage. Abshire out of the shotgun, takes the snap, looks to the left, throws to the left on a slant, has a catch running to the right sidelines and having a first down, I believe down near the 40 yard line is Anderson. That'll be good for a gain of 15 and a first down. Another slant, Larry across the middle, wide side of the field, coming back against the grain. And they're basically playing outside leverage.

That means that the defensive back is lining up on the outside shoulder. They're given that inside route and Seavee has seen that made that adjustment. They've come back. Anderson with his third catch of the night. Great job.

Good throw. And the officials spot the ball back at the 41. So a gain of 14, but still a Damon Orthodontics. First down, first and 10. CV ball on the right hand.

Lawson in motion through to the left side. And they will run it to the right. Stretch play. And Kelly gets inside the 40 and has run out of bounds by Luciano Reynolds as he gets down to the 38 yard line. Looks like that's a gain of about three yards.

Reynolds has been busy today. This linebacking crew, I like this defense for prep. They do real. They're very active. They do a nice job of.

Of rallying to the football. They're putting pressure on the quarterback. They're defending the pass well. And Central Valley's offense is very good. This is the best passing offense in the Greater Spokane League and perhaps keeping them kind of contained.

A little gain of four, second and six now from the bullpup. 37 ball on the right hash Abshire to throw deep ball down the right side looking for hen. And this ball is under. Thrown and caught. Wrestled away from the receiver or wrestled away from the defensive back by hen.

The Chu had the Choi had the intercept interception down there at the five yard line and Handles came in and wrestled it away from him. Yeah, you're exactly right. He was in perfect position. He high pointed it and then the receiver just came over and ripped it right out of his hand. So what a great play by that young man and what a big play for Central Valley.

They're right back in this game, 230 to go here in the third quarter if they can score. So a big play down to the five yard line and it'll be or as Finn, not him. Excuse me, Finn on the reception down there to the five yard line. Now a straight eye, no wide receivers. Everybody in tight.

Abshire, the quarterback in under center, takes the snap toss sweep. Running to the left side and getting maybe to the three yard line is Kelly. And then he is drilled and driven back. After a gain of a couple of yards. He cut back inside.

That time if he would have stayed outside, he would have scored because alley to his left, he went to the wide side of the field. Then he cut back. That's where all the dudes are run away from all those big guys in the middle and go to the little small guys of the outside. You got a great chance. Second and goal now from the three.

They've got a fullback in there, Chamberlain and a tailback. Kelly again. Everybody in tight. Abshire toss sweep again to the left side. And this is Kelly and he will get into the end zone.

Touchdown for Central Valley. Terrence Kelly, a three yard rushing touchdown. And so late third quarter with a minute 31 still to play, Central Valley cuts this to a one possession game. Well, in that time he did exactly what we told him to do on the last play. Instead of cutting back, he stayed outside.

He got a great block, you know, from the outside, found that alley to the left and waltzed into the end zone untouched. So a nice drive. That was an 88 yard drive for Central Valley High. Snap ball bobbled by the holder. And there will be no try for pull as Gonzaga Prep comes away with the football.

So now it is 20 to 12. Two missed extra points. One actually missed and the other a mishandled snap by the holder. Well, at least these teams are consistent. And both times Central Valley is burped. One was blocked, this one just was a bad snap and that's that. Two points makes a difference now because if they're going to score, they got to score a touchdown. Absolutely.

10 two point conversion. Let's pause for station identification. This is the Arby's GSL game of the week from the Frost Brewed Coors D Light studio. This is 700 ESPN 105. 3 FM.

So our STCU touchdown drive recap. An 88 yard drive for Central Valley capped by the Kelly 3 yard rushing touchdown. The point after no good, 20 to 12 is the score in favor of Gonzaga Prep. Central Valley will kick it off. Cole Nelson ready to do that?

Here's the boot. Low line drive downfield. This will be grabbed at the 10 yard line. Raining the ball up the right side, Getting across the 25, out over the 30 and spinning out to about the 32 or 33 yard line was the return man. And I'm trying to see who that was.

I think it was Brendan Kelly. And he gets up to the 33 and that's where Gonzaga Prep will have it. First down and 10. Well, prep needs to put together one of their patented prep drives where they run the football, they burn a lot of clock, they flip this field. They're only up eight points now and Central Valley is feeling pretty good about themselves offensively with that last touchdown drive.

Pistol formation, receivers to either side. McKenna, the quarterback claps his hands, takes the snap waist high, fakes the handoff, throws deep. Man out there. Caught. Hilburn 40, 35, 30.

It's a foot race. He's at the 2015 run into the right sideline or left sidelines. Rather is dropped around the five yard line. Hilburn on the big play on the passing gain all the way down to the five, maybe the six. It'll be first down, goal to go.

Well, so much for ball control offense that time they came back with that big pass up the middle of the tight end and he ran right by the safety and the linebacker was responsible for him. That's a second huge catch by Hilbron and almost a back breaker there for Central Valley. 61 yards. Wow on that play to Hilburn. And it's first down, goal to go.

Now from the six. McKenna takes the snap, hands it to Ortega off the right side. He'll burrow inside the five and get down to about the three, maybe the two, for a gain of three or four yards on the play. You know, they've gone when they've needed a big play. Larry Prep has gone to the pass.

They want to use that reverse, which was a biggie. Then they've had a couple of big pass plays as well, which is is set this team up very well here in this game. Inside of a minute remaining in the third quarter. Still 20 to 12 in favor of Gonzaga Prep. Second and goal.

And we'll call this one at the three yard line. So three yards for Ortega on that last play. McKenna out of the pistol, takes the snap, hands it again. Ortega slides off the right side. Yep.

And he's into the end zone for a touchdown. So Ortega run off the right side for three yards in the rushing touchdown. And Gonzaga Prep gets that touchdown right back and they take a 26 to 12 lead. Well, that was quick. Oh well, a big 61 yard pass will help that out.

And now Duchenne for the path. So Ortega gets his second rushing touchdown of the ball game, his ninth of the year. And the point after is booted up and is good. So Ortega the three yard run and now it is a 2712 ball game in favor of Gonzaga Prep. And we are down now to 29 and a half seconds remaining here in the third quarter.

And we've already done that. So. You weren't paying attention. I was busy. No, you just weren't paying attention.

I was busy. Oh, okay. Anything you want to say there? You got something to read off of that? I was busy.

And that is our STCU touchdown drive recap and his ninth on the season. Also the big play up the middle, Larry. They've attacked the safeties for Central Valley because they've had to help out a run support. They've got them creeping up and when they do that, basically the offensive staff up on the press box see it, they come back with that tight end or the slot back, you know, coming right up the middle, running right down the hash and they're wide open there.

Isn't anybody around them? So that's a well designed play and called at the appropriate time. So at 29 and a half seconds remaining here in the third quarter, Deshain will run in forward and kick it from the 40. Here it is, deep end over end. Saunders from the 5 yard line up the right side of the 10.

Now cuts to his left running over the 15 and gets a big hit and drops short of the 20 yard line or right at the 20 yard line perhaps. And it'll be first down and 10. And then there's Antonio DeFelice that hit him and brings him down at the 19. So that's where CV starts. First down and 10.

Senior safety also does a nice job out there on special teams. He's the contained guy on the outside coming down there. So they have their safeties, corners, running backs on special teams. That's usually what you like to see. Linebackers, you know, make a good one.

Every once in a while you get a crazy nose guard that'll run down there and blow up the wedge, which you can't do anymore. So nice job by DeFelice to keep contained and then have a great tackle. CV from their own 19. First down and 10. Abshire to throw, looks to the right, throws to the right and led his man too far on the out pattern there.

The inside receiver running the out to the sidelines. That was Anderson Pass incomplete. Second down and 10. Usually Abshire is pretty accurate on that. He just didn't have good feet that time.

He just kind of, he didn't set his feet. He just kind of floated that ball in it and it took off on him. Kind of sailed wide towards the Central Valley bench. Ball near the center of the field at their own 19 now for Central Valley. Second down and 10.

They have two receivers split to either side here. Abshire, the quarterback, takes the snap, waist tie, looks to the left, throws to the left side, has a catch out there and getting out around the 25 yard line goes the receiver and that was Lawson and that's going to be a gain of close to six yards. Now they'll put it at the 24. So a five yard gain and it'll be the end of the third quarter before we get another play. So the third quarter ends.

They have what, 66, well over 200 passing or rushing yards and over 100 passing yards. They're well over 300 yards of offense here in this ball game. CV is getting close to 200 passing yards, but they are only at about 40 rushing yards in this game.

So they're getting out gained by a tremendous amount. But Prep has two turnovers in this ballgame. Those are two possessions that Central Valley was able to steal, both by the same guy, Riley Phillips, who's also been a very busy bee tackling, you know, making plays on the defensive side. I think the Central Valley defense has played very well and the offense has had their moments, but they just haven't been able to convert when they needed to. So a big third down play here and you have to wonder be one of them.

Yeah. Whether there would, you know, down two scores, it would be very tough to get go for it deep in your own end on fourth down. But down two scores you almost have to. Yeah, because basically you're going to get good field position again, you know, for Prep and they can't afford to give up another score here because that would pretty much put this thing out of reach.

You got 12 minutes to go. This is the time you got to step up. So a big third and five here. Two receivers to each side. Movement up front by Gonzaga Prep Meltzer in the neutral zone.

And that's going to cost the bullpups. Five yards in a first down. Oh, that was a biggie. Just a great job. And Melzer just taking an inside move.

He wanted to kind of time that thing so he could split between the guard and the tackle and get in the backfield. Unfortunately, he just gave him a first down. 65 yards on seven penalties, unofficially, for Gonzaga Prep in this one. So 1st and 10, CV up at their own 29 from the left. /abshire Nearing 200 passing yards in this ballgame, according to my statistics, most from Lawson.

Left to right through the formation. And rolling to the right is Abshire. He has time. Throws to the right sidelines, has a man. And that ball is caught.

And going out of bounds with a first down is Anderson, I believe, up at the 41 yard line, gain of 12 yards. Little 12 yard out that time. And a nice job by Abshire to plant that foot, throw that ball out there. And an excellent catch by Anderson. He corralled it, got out of bounds, picked up the first out.

So first down and 10. Another Damon Orthodontics first down. They have the ball up now at their own 41. Abshire to throw. Looks to the left, wants to go deep down the left side, looking for Finn.

And that ball is. Is it caught? No. Incomplete. But a flag is down.

And it looks like we're gonna get another pass interference here on Gonzaga Prep. I think there was a little bit of contact, a little hand fighting that time. I think that was Kelly, number 20, that was out there, the senior. And they were battling. They were stride for stride.

But he may have gotten a hand in there and tugged before that ball got there. You know, that's kind of a ticky tack call, but by rule, that's pass interference. And they're gonna mark 15 yards off and give Central Valley another first down. And so that ball is going to be marked down to the 44, it looks like, of Gonzaga Prep. 80 yards and penalties for prep on eight.

Eight penalties, 80 yards, man. That's not very prep like. And so it'll be first and 10 now for CV trailing 2712 here early in the fourth quarter. Good for CV, though. I like the fact that they were taking shots downfield.

They're stretching this defense, making them play the entire field. First down and 10 and an empty backfield. They'll lateral it out to Kelly. This is a running play, and Kelly breaks a couple of tackles. Will be stopped short of the line of scrimmage as they Were all over that play.

Yeah, that ball's a little bit behind him. He was kind of flaring to the flat and Abshire kind of threw the ball low and kind of back towards where he was. So he had to gather the football and that basically stopped all his momentum. Once that happens, you're dead meat. Prep's defense just overwhelmed him there.

If you can hit the guy in stride, you give your receiver a chance. Loss of two yards that time. Second and 12, then four wide, two to either side. Ball on the left hash mark. Abshire wants to throw.

Looks to the left, nobody open now. Pressured out, runs to his right and is sacked for the third time in the ball game. He has dropped Miller and Watkins. Bring him down. Back at the 47 yard line, maybe the 46 yard line.

Big loss. Big play by Watkins again, the junior, he's getting a lot of looks as well. He's only a junior, but he's on the recruiting basically charts for a lot of folks. And he plays hard. I like the way he gets up the middle.

And you can't just block him with one. Dude, you got a double. Team him. Third and 20 now for Central Valley Ball. Back of their own 46 yard line.

Abshire out of the gun, fades back, steps up, throws deep right side. This is going to be a jump ball out there. And that ball is caught. Wow. Down at about the 15 yard line.

That is Brugman for a first down and a huge play. A gain of 39. Wow. I mean, that was just two guys in great position. You had Choi out there in great position.

You had Brugman out there and he just elevated, used that height to go up there. And that's why he's the leading receiver in this league. Making a great job on that adjustment. Climbing high up the fence. First down and 10 from the 15 yard line of Gonzaga Prep.

And Abshire throws on a slant. That ball is caught and that's a touchdown. Brugman hauls it in. It was a little bit behind him, but he went up and got it and then waltzed into the end zone for the score. And Gonzaga Prep's lead has been trimmed to nine now with a point after coming.

Well, it's important because you want to keep this within one score here. So kick the extra point. You don't have to chase points right now. You don't have to go for two, but you keep this game within one score. That's exactly what Central Valley needed.

What a great job. And they were helped by some penalties. Larry, you know, in terms of pass interference on this drive to keep that drive alive. They have not been able to kick a point yet in this ball game. Hunter Myers, there's the snap, the spot, the boot looks good and it is good.

And so they needed that point after try and they got it. And so the lead is at 8 now at 27 to 19 early here in the fourth quarter of play. We still have 956 remaining to play. You know, just a great job on that drive. And Brugman stepping up, making a big catch on that kind of 50, 50 ball.

And he just, he went up and just out leaped the corner there. And that's what. Sometimes you got to put trust in your wide receiver. And that's exactly what Abshire did. He's had himself a whale of a game.

He's been able to throw some deep balls. He's been, he's been on target. The slant has worked. That's kind of open the middle up a little bit bit. Then that leaves your corners kind of on an island out there.

And they're picking on an 81 yard scoring drive there. Big play. The 49 yarder to Brugman in the last 15 came on a pass to Brugman. And so that 81 yard drive and the point after makes it 27 to 19. Our touchdown drive recap brought to you by STCU Spokane teachers credit Union.

I have abshire unofficially at 262 passing yards and he has completed six out of his last seven passes here in this second half of play. Well, he's thrown a couple of touchdowns too, and he hasn't thrown any interceptions, which has been huge. So here's the run forward Nelson to boot it away. And it's a little onside pooch kick and it'll be grabbed by Gonzaga Prep at the 41 or 2 yard line. They tried to surprise him and just kind of pooch it over the front line there.

But a great job done by Gonzaga Prep to recognize that. And it was Max Johnson who made the catch on that. A sophomore. Remember, prep has had a couple of big plays, big reverse, couple of big passes right down the middle. That last big pass, you know, play to their tight end Hillburn.

Let's see if they come back and you know, and try to attack Central Valley in that Area with play action. And so first down for Gonzaga Prep. Their own 42 from the right hash. And they fake the run. And now run it to the left side.

McKenna as they fake the handoff inside. And McKenna takes off around the left end. The quarterback gains four yards up to the 46 yard line. Important thing about that is it keeps the clock moving. The clock is prep's ally.

They want to put together a long sustained drive, try to burn some clock. And if they get some points, that's a bonus. But they really also want to flip this field and make Central Valley have to go length. Very unofficial stats. I have McKenna at 10 carries for 15 yards.

He was averaging well over 100 yards a game coming in. Seavee's done an excellent job against him. Second down and six, and they fake the handoff. McKenna around the right end this time. Hits a stone wall, but dives forward and gets to the 49.

So it ends up being some positive yards and a play that looked like it wasn't going anywhere. A gain of three, and this is going to bring up a big third and short. Well, this defensive front up front for Prep, they've got a junior, a sophomore and a senior. These guys are for Central Valley. They're going to be back.

They've got a lot of young guys on this defense. This could be a very good defense for a long time. Third down and three. Gonzaga Prep at their own 49. And they will run the option to the left side and McKenna will keep.

And there he goes around the end. 45, 40 down the left side lines. 30, 25, 20. Foot race and he's gonna win it. Touchdown, Gonzaga Prep.

McKenna on a third and three. Everybody in tight. And they have hurt them on the outside all game. A double back flip in the end zone draws all sorts of flags. And Gonzaga Prep has taken a 33 to 19 lead.

Hey, if he can do a double back flip in the end zone, he deserves whatever flags he can get. That was just a great run. He showed some pretty outstanding speed. Larry out ran the corner and the safety who was trying to come over from the other side. Great block by the wide receiver out there on the corner to basically free McKenna.

And an excellent pitch fake where he faked like he was going to pitch outside because that has hurt CV all day. He drew that backer with the running back and then he was able to cut it up and try. Uses speed well, all game long. They had done a great job on McKenna, but then he gets free on the outside. 51 yard rushing.

Touchdown and then McKenna and one of the other bullpups each did a backflip in the end zone. And that's drawn our the ire of our officials who are now, I think all of them together talking about this whole thing. Are they saying they should join the gymnastics team or are they just going to penalize it? Probably on the kickoff, I would think. No.

Oh, on the extra point and what? Well, wait a minute. They don't. Oh, Dave said Prep doesn't have a gymnastics team, so I guess that's. Thank you.

You know, if you weren't here, they wouldn't have known that. So thank you very much. Now, between Weir and you, I'm getting pummeled on both sides. Nice work. So the officials continue the talk here and it's a celebration penalty in the end zone.

And I'm not really sure what all the conversations is about here. It's either a not going to wipe the touchdown out. I think that would be a dead ball on the extra point. The only thing I'm wondering about is whether they're thinking of disqualifying somebody over this whole thing, which I would think would be ridiculous as well. I think it's a 15 yard penalty.

There shouldn't be any disqualification. I mean, they're just celebrating a great score in a crucial game with 833 to go here. I. I don't know how you can eject somebody for being happy and sportsmanlike. Conduct on Gonzaga prep.

Unsportsmanlike conduct on Gonzaga. Two unsportsmanlike conducts on Gonzaga. Double backflips. Must have been. Wow, that's a third.

That's 30 yards. That's gonna be a long extra point. So we'll see what they do here with this penalty. The referee over talking to Dave McKinnon. And when it's your son is guilty of half the penalty, at the very least, I wonder that you could probably discipline him some at home as well as in practice.

My son got penalized almost as much as I did, but I would high five him and tell him, son, just be smart about it. Did he do a backflip in the end zone? Oh, now there's a penalty on Central Valley as well. There was a one of their When McKenna, I thought I saw this. He was going down.

He tried to TR. Trip him. And so that has been called as well. I agree. I saw that.

I didn't want to say anything because I thought, well, that's weird. Looked like he tried to trip the guy. But that's a penalty even if you don't do it. If you attempt it, that's, that's an unsports. He tried to make a sliding soccer.

You saw him stick his right leg out. He tried to, you know, kind of come off the top rope and kick his legs out from under him. Why would you just keep running and tackle him? Can you imagine if he did catch Owie hit you in the shin? That would hurt.

So more dialogue here, boy. Yeah, they're trying to figure all this stuff out. So if you've got two unsportsmanlikes against prep, you're gonna end up with just a 15 yard penalty and one unsportsmanliker tripping penalty, you know, against CV, you know, then that pretty much wipes.

Wipes out a couple things. So I think they're just gonna go and let them kick and love to play another day and will be here at midnight at the way this game's going. They're gonna kick it from the three yard line here. So we'll see on the kickoff where the ball is spotted. So McKenna, after all, that gets the 51 yard rushing touchdown.

And now the pat from Deshain to try to reestablish the 15 point lead. Ball snapped, spotted kick is up and it is good. And so the score now is Gonzaga Prep 34 and Central Valley 19 with 8:33 remaining to go in the fourth quarter of play. One of the, one of the peculiarities here from where we broadcast, we're in the school building here, so we're inside one of the classrooms. But to see the scoreboard, which is on the same side that we're on, I have to open the window and lean my head out.

Lucky there's no pigeons there because they'd be poking on your forehead. Well, there's an overhang here, so the pigeons would have a hard time doing anything. Be my luck, I would stick my head out there and all of a sudden one would have to go and they'd plop it right on my forehead with the headset. That'd be, you know, Katie, bar the door. And you would snicker and I'd feel bad for about five seconds and we'd move on.

So now we'll see what they do with the spot. It looks like they're gonna put it right at the 40. So evidently offsetting penalties probably. Now they're backward. He goes, so back to the 25.

So Gonzaga Prep declined that penalty to take the touchdown. Yes. And then the unsportsmanlike is being marked off here. And so they kick off from the 25 yard line. Crucial for Central Valley to get good field position.

And they need to put together a drive lickety split to get back in this game. Good deep kickoff. Saunders from the 20 yard line up over the 25 to the 30. Running to his left now cut up field, now stops and bounces outside. Good.

Gives ground inside the 30, breaks another tackle. Now is being thrown forward by his teammates and they will finally put him down at the 32 yard line. It looks like not as good a field position as they were hoping for, I'm sure. No. And that you can't go sideline to sideline.

You just got to plant that foot, get up field. He tried to go from the. From the right side all the way over the left side. You've got no chance. Prep stays in their lane.

They're very disciplined on their kick coverage. Just try to find a seam, get up field about 15, 20 yards, you'd have been up close to the 40 yard line. Now you're right at the 32 because you did too much dancing. You weren't going vertical, you're going horizontal. So CV has to get a touchdown here on this drive.

They'll send Brugman out wide to the right here and they will have Anderson also as the slot receiver. To the right they have Finn wide left and Lawson slotted inside him. First and 10 from their own 32. Low snap. Abshire drops it, picks it up, fires it over the middle, has a catch.

This is Lawson. Dodges a man 45, 40 down the middle of the field. 30, 20, 10, 5. Touchdown Central Valley. Well, that was quick.

Yeah, one play, 68 yards, and Abshire hits Lawson on a little skinny post there. And 68 yards later, they're dancing in the end zone on the other side. And it's now a 34, 25 ball game. Well, Lawson's been the big play guy and Abshire, let's give him credit, that puts him well over 300 yards passing as well. But that slant, Larry, has hurt prep here in the second half.

They have come back and had some big plays. Anderson's done a nice job, Lawson's done a nice job. Brugman's done a nice job. They're getting after it. Finn had that big catch as well.

So impressive stuff. Now they have to kick the point after the boot is up and it is good. And so that gets it back to a one score game again at 34 to 26. Let's go ahead and pause one minute for a timeout on the Arby's GSL game of the week here on 700 ESPN and 105. 3 FM.

And so that's where they'll have it. First and 10. See if he needs a stop. They do need to stop. And we talked about we thought we may have cursed these two offices.

You know, talking about a high scoring game. We have a high scoring game. You know they've gone over the points. We're actually close to what they need to at Central Valley with 26 points, 28 is there high and prep is at 34. They've scored much more than that but last six possessions have turned down to points.

One field goal, five touchdowns. And on first down, they will run the option to the left side. McKenna, he will get to about the 35 and that's it. So a very short gain on first down. Great job.

That time he tried to, you know, pitch it outside, but that time they moved the outside backer up and he came right up to connect with running back. That's what you have to do when he's in that motion. Just take him out, go and tackle him even if he doesn't have the ball. Same thing with the quarterback. Your three guys are on them.

Pitch, fullback, running back, all should be on the ground on everybody play. McKenna got close to three yards. Second down and seven and they had it. No keeping himself as McKenna breaking a tackle. He's out over the 40 and should have first down yardage as he gets close to the 44 yard line.

Well, they'll put him down at the 43 it looks like, and he'll be a little short of a first down. He just has great endurance, Larry, and he just kind of gets better as the game goes on. He keeps his clock going. We're down to 7, 15, 15 to go here in the fourth and a heck of a ballgame. 34, 26.

Prep Battle wins this thing, gets the GSL title. Trevor Gravel made the tackle there. Third down and a yard. They'll hand it to the running back. I'm breaking through there up the middle.

This is Collier Inside the 40, down to the 30, down to the 28 yard line. Collier that time was the running back and he just squirted through a small little gap in there and picks up a huge run down to the 28 for a first down. That's frustrating for a defense because it looks like he was bottled up. He was in the pile and he. Somebody just didn't wrap him up and he was able to, as Larry said, squirt out there and find a seam right up the middle.

Colliers had a brilliant game, running the football well over 100 yards. Unofficially, 140 yards after that 30 yard gain down to the Central Valley 28 yard line. So first down and 1010 for the Bullpups. Duchenne's a wing to the right. They have a fullback set to the right and out of the pistol.

McKenna will take the ball and run option now to the left. He'll keep it inside the 25. Lowers his shoulder, he gets down around the 20 and now a rugby scrum and we'll see where the officials Will spot the ball dead. It looks like it'll be toward the 19 yard line, which would be a nine yard advance. They just keep coming after you on offense.

They keep pounding away at you. The fullback, every time. Then McKenna gets a ball so you got to pursue him and then he pitches the ball back to Collier. Then you could have a reverse with a wide receiver coming back the other way. A lot of responsibility for this defense to try to on every play to make sure they man up and know where those guys are going and then tackle.

Second down and a yard ball on the left hash at the Bear 19. Gonzaga Prep with a 3426 lead. And they will run the option to the left side or the right side this time. And he's hit for a long. McKenna might have struggled forward toward the line of scrimmage.

They may give him back to the 19. That could have been a couple of yard loss in the play, but he was able to spin away and it'll be about a half yard loss. So it'll be third down a yard and a half. Ortega has had a couple of touchdown runs from one and three yards out. And let's see, you know this is two down territory for prop.

Third down, a long yard ball outside the 19 yard line line. And now prep looks to the bench. Plenty of time on the clock. Down to 17 seconds. So third down about four and a half feet for a first down.

McKenna out of the pistol, takes the snap, hands it off. Collier bounces free on the left side. First down breaks another tackle inside the 10 yard line. And he's going to be knocked down around the eight. That's going to be another 11 yard gain for Collier.

First down goal to go Gonzaga Prep. Collier has done a great job running the football and also catching it out. He's had a couple of big catches as well coming out of the backfield. McKenna has run this offense very well. He hasn't had the yards that he normally has, but he's had some big plays and he's wearing this Central Valley defense.

Their hands are on their hips right now. That's a tired and dejected defense and it's a very good one. But prep is tough on offense. 10 yards down to the nine. First down goal to go.

Gonzaga play Prep. And running it is McKenna behind the lead block of the fullback who is going through there. And he pounds it all the way down inside the five to about the one yard line. Well, it looked like somebody hit him high, took a shot at his, at his head there, kind of head snapped back and yet he was still able to keep those feet going and find additional yards. His yards after contact have been impressive in this game actually all season long.

Gonzaga Prep, I have him now. Over 370 yards of rushing offense in this ball game and well over 470 yards of offense. Second and goal from the 1. McKenna takes the snap, fakes the handoff, burrows into the middle behind the fullback lead into the way and he's going to score. Touchdown.

Gonzaga Prep. McKenna just following Collier into the hole and he gets a one yard rushing touchdown. And we have an injured bear on the play. And it's now 40 to 26 in favor of Gonzaga Prep. So McKenna gets another rushing touchdown and we'll see where we go in with the point.

But you know, Thomas, what a great story about that young man and, you know, an awesome, you know, family. Devon Thomas, Dad. And they're just great people. And you just hate to hear of the struggles that that young man has had to go through. But he has such a good spirit, such great personality and, you know, will to want to overcome.

And he's going to be very successful no matter what he does. And cancer is not going to stop that young man. So Phillips walking off under the aid of a couple of player. One. One player and one coach.

The PAT is up and it is good. And so that makes it a 4126 ballgame. We'll go ahead, take a timeout. Be back in one minute as Gonzaga Prep has scored for their fourth consecutive drive. Three touchdowns and a field goal in that stretch.

This is a big league now. The 4A, 3A and 2A GSL. So Central Valley will receive and they need a quick strike time. They had a one play strike in their last drive so they could use something like that again here. I believe they have all their timeouts remaining in the second half and then they would need a Defensive stop, which is not something they've been able to do outside of the one fumble that Gonzaga Prep had in the second half.

That, that prep, that CB recovered in their own end. Prep is pretty much scored every other time they've had the ball in the second half. Five out of the other six or five out of six times. Here's the kick, end over end high. And this will be fielded at the 6.

Run back over the 15 to the 20. Bouncing outside on the right side, breaking a tackle and then getting stopped at about the 21 or 22 yard line. I think that's Saunders on the return. And CV will start deep in their own end. And what prep does is they angle kick.

So they're going to kick from the right hash over to the left sidelines. Then they basically, their whole, you know, coverage team will go down and kind of cut the field off. So they're really cutting the field in half, which makes it tough because normally, you know, you've got guys that are in their lanes all the way down the field, but when you angle kick like that and then you have your coverage, that that kind of comes over, you know, it makes it really difficult on your return.

And we've seen that tonight. Prep's done a nice job in their coverage. It was Sean Moore on the return and Moore got it up to the 20 yard line. First down and 10 for Central Valley at their own 20. On the right half, four wide, two to either side.

Abshire takes the snap, chest high, fades back. Pressure coming, gives ground back to the 10, running to his right, heaves it downfield into coverage on the sidelines. And the pass incomplete. Looking for Anderson out there. And that ball was tipped and knocked away.

And I think it was. Might have been Choi back there. I think it was. He's been. He's been busy, he's been active, he's had some big plays and you know, he had a couple other.

Brugman ended up going up and catching a ball over the top of him, but he's been right there most of the day. And as a corner, you have to have a short memory, Larry. You're gonna get beat from time to time. You have to forget it, come back and compete, try to make another play. It was Kelly actually out there.

It's hard to tell. They bunched up these jerseys in the front, a lot of these guys. So second down and 10 back to throw. Abshire a little screen is what they're trying to set up? No, it's thrown out to the sidelines the way the defensive line came through.

I thought it was a screen, but it was just bad pass blocking as they were all over Abshire. And he got it out on the left side to Lawson for a gain of three. Lawson's been busy. At least you're brutally honest on that. And Lawson didn't make a lot, maybe a couple yards in that thing.

He got pummeled. So third down now and seven yards to go from the 23 yard line. Abshire takes a knee, high snap now pressure comes, lobs it down the left side. He had a man out there and it's knocked away incomplete. The ball under thrown.

Choi back there to knock it away. But if that ball had been thrown. Well, Finn had a touchdown. He was three or four yards behind Choi, but he had to stop and wait for it. And Choi was able to go back and make the play and knock the ball away.

And that's just great effort by Choi. When you're beat like that, get back to the hip and then you can look back, you'll see the eyes that get really big and then you can turn back and try to find. And that's what he did and was able to swat it away, get a nice PBU pass broken up. So now ball game here. Yep.

With 304 remaining to play. Fourth quarter, it's fourth down and seven for Central Valley at the Gonzaga Prep 23. Lawson in motion to the right, Abshire rolls to the right, fires to the sidelines and on the sidelines has a catch. Wow, beautiful catch. Up at the 34 yard line for a first down.

That, that is Anderson. Gain of 11 and a CV. First down. A Damon Orthodontics, first down. Anderson's been really tough across the middle on the slants.

He's also been really good on that out route and he was able to get one tootsie down before he went out of bounds. Secured that football. Great throw by Abshire. I've been impressed by him, Larry. He's done a nice job tonight throwing the football.

So first and 10, Central Valley at their own 34 yard line. Ball on the right hash again, two receivers split to either side. Waist high snap. Abshire grabs it, throws the slant. Nice catch.

That is, I believe, Brugman and he gets over the 50 yard line and is thrown down at the 48 yard line. And that'll be good for a first down. Brugman with a nice play. Reynolds that time came up and made the hit. 190 pounder and Brugman didn't go very far after he ran into in A Reynolds good tackle.

18 yards on the pickup. Bears in CV or in prep territory at the, at the bullpup 48. Brugman to throw. Sets up, fires the ball, has a catch. Inside the 40, breaking a tackle.

Brugman down to the 37 yard line. That'll be another first down. McKiernan brings him down, but a gain of 11. How many catches do you have? I think I've got them.

I've got it for a lot. Two, four, six, maybe eight now. I think that's what I have too. Scrambling to try to keep up. He's doing a nice job.

He's been the go to guy. He's played really well in this game. The June to the senior. The 6,495pounder has been a great target. First and 10 at the Bullpup 37.

Brugman takes the snap. Corner blitz coming deep, ball down the right sides. Got a man open and it just overthrown off his hands down there at around the 10 yard line. I think it was Brugman once again and he had his man beaten and he just couldn't quite haul that one in yet. Two receivers running go routes, you know, about six yards apart from each other could have gone inside either one of those guys, you know, were open and Larry, as you mentioned, that ball was just.

And I think it's. Yeah, it was Lawson that he was looking for. He's coming out, kind of holding his right shoulder a little bit. Look like he may have landed on that thing when he tried to go out, pull that football. So second down and 10, ball on the right hash.

Three receivers go left, one man wide right here. Abshire out of the gun, takes the snap, looks back, throws to the catch and then curling inside is the receiver and getting stopped. Basically no gain on the play. That is Saunders and the clock will run. In fact he lost two yards back to the 39 minute 40 to go here in the game.

And actually CV's offense right now keeps the clock going. That's actually playing into Gonzaga Prep's favor. So second down, second, third down and 12 blitz coming. They pick it up. He fires over the middle.

He's got a catch. I think it's more down inside the 20 yard line. Then a fumble and it's recovered by Central Valley back toward the 25. But they still are going to have a first down in the play. More had the catch.

Abshar really puts some heat on that throw there. Nice job. And he gets down to the 20 yard line and they will spike the ball and set Up a second, down and 10 situation now with the clock block at 115 remaining to play. So you score, you gotta go for two. No, you can still kick the extra point.

Then you're gonna have to onside kick, score it and then go for two, correct? Yes. So you gotta go for two sooner or later, but I think now you just kick. Yeah, you kick the extra point. It just gives you a chance and you know, but you need to score quickly.

Running out of time. So second down and 10 with the ball down at the 20 yard line line. Taking the snap. Abshire fades back, throws deep right side, flags down. Pass is incomplete in the end zone.

And I think we're going to get a hold here in all likelihood on Central Valley. Yeah, they're going to move that back from the 30 yard line back to the 40. And that's not the direction that CV wants to go, but it's tough right now to hold up. This one. Offensive line has done a pretty good job.

Prep is really pressured, especially up the middle. And you know, that's Ephraim Watkins. You've got Melzer over there is one of the better, you know, defensive ends in the league, if not the state. You know, McKinnon's done a nice job playing on the outside. Luke Miller, the tackle has been aggressive.

They, they've been pressuring these guys a lot tonight. Down to 108 remaining as the holding penalty marks the ball back to the 35 yard line line. And so it is second down and long here. Second and 25, I believe, as that was a penalty from the spot of the foul. So second and 25, empty backfield.

Three receivers left, two right. Ball in the center of the field. Back to throw it. Abshire blitz coming, hit as he throws. Deep ball, right side incomplete.

Good coverage there for Gonzaga Prep. Diving try in the end zone for the interception. Kelly back there, Pass incomplete. Brugman, I think, was the intended receiver. Kelly was the guy that had the best shot at catching that ball.

He was the one that laid out for it and was able to get a hand on it. That ball was thrown a little bit too far inside. Brugman just couldn't get over there. He was running a go route straight down the field. And that's been a good battle between Kelly and Brugman over there all night.

So now 3rd and 25 for Central Valley. That's the slant. They have the ball at the 35 yard line of Gonzaga Prep. Again, empty backfield. Abshire takes the snap chest high, throws to the right sidelines.

Has a catch and going out of bounds is Saunders down at the 24 yard line. It looks like a gain of 11 and they'll bring up fourth down here. But fourth down and more manageable. Fourth and about 15, 59 seconds ago. Smart move by the receiver to get out of bounds, stop the clock.

The middle was open, Larry, that that slant was wide open across the middle. Let's see if they come back to it. I have abshire now over 400 yards passing unofficially in this game. Fourth down, about 13 yards for a first down to the ball down in CV or in prep territory. Abshire throwing left side into the end zone.

Man open overthrown. And so that'll be that. And Gonzaga Prep is going to complete an undefeated season at five. And oh, if they can run out the clock with 53 and 710 seconds remaining to play here in the fourth quarter, well, you can do the greatest formation in football, the victory formation. Just protected.

And they can call three timeouts if they want and kick the ball back. But you know, you can burn clock here and, and you know, do some good stuff. But this has been a very good football game. Both of these teams kind of laid it out on the line, but just a little too much prep on offense and you know, the turnover Central Valley was able to force. Let's give, you know, Riley Phillips a lot of credit.

He had two fumble recoveries, but that prep offense is tough to stop. So Gonzaga Prep with the football and they will run it into the middle of the line and getting nothing there is the running back and they'll stop the clock here and take the first of their timeouts as they're not given up yet. Collier on the run. Collier's played great tonight. And so he gets back to the line of scrimmage it looks like.

And timeout number one is being called for by Central Valley here with 43. 8 seconds remaining here in place the first fourth quarter. Well, good ball game to wrap up our Arby's GSL Games of the Week here on 700 ESPN and 105. 3 FM. Good way to to close out the football season.

Absolutely. And I'm so happy for these kids and for the coaches to have a football season that, you know, again, some of these teams got seven, some got six, some got five. You know, they're not everybody got to play the full season, but in our Covid, you know, environment, any football is great. We're going to come back. You got baseball season starting on Monday and then after that basketball season, we're Going to do some double headers.

You know, I think it's May and into June, which will be be fun. Yep, absolutely. All right. On first, on second down they will run it to the outside. McKenna gets back to the line of scrimmage and the second time out now will be taken and it'll be third down and 10 yards to go.

You just keep running the football, put it in the hands of the guys that can controlled it all day long and you know, I understand what they're doing. They're trying to figure out a way to get a turnover, get the ball back here, but they're fighting every, you know, down. I love that we're going to have a new school coming in next fall as well, a brand new high school out in, in the Spokane Valley. Grady Emerson's the athletic director out there and they've done a nice job of hiring some coaches. You'll recognize Freddie Rico going to be the men's basketball coach and they've kind of delved into the Central Valley U High pool in terms of former coaches.

So it's going to be interesting to see a 16 team league which is what the GSL will be at the 4A 38 2A level. What's the name of the high school? Ridgeline. Outstanding. Good work for you.

Said Rock Ridge. I was thinking of Blazing Saddles, but it was Ridgeline so I'm glad you waited. What are their nickname? What's their nickname? The Fighting Ridge.

They are the Falcons. Are they the Falcons? Oh, that's cool. What are their colors? I have no idea about the colors.

Beige and pink, I think. I doubt that. Okay, maybe not. Third down and 10 from the 20 yard line. And McKenna will take the snap and roll out to the left side, keep it himself and gets hit for a loss inside the 20 yard line.

Good job by the defense for Central Valley right there. Again, that was Trevor Gravel who has done a nice job in this ball game. And that's a five yard loss for McKenna and they'll have to punt and 28 seconds left. So, you know, do you believe in miracles? In fact it was interesting because back in the day, UC Davis, they played Hayward, they scored, what was it?

It was 16 points in 18 seconds. They had a touchdown, two point conversion. Onside kick, touchdown, two point conversion. And that would be something. It was 1971 when that happened and they show that film every time saying never give up, you never know.

And so not that they're going to come back and do a touchdown, two point conversion. Touchdown, two point conversion. But it's happened before. Well, if you could block a punt here. Yep.

That would be a big thing to see what you can do as Deshaun is on to punt. They have no deep men this cv, so they're going to rush the punter here, here and see if they can block this punt. They have 11 men at the line of scrimmage and a timeout taken by Gonzaga Prep prior to the punt. Good night. Exactly.

So maybe they can get rid of all of their timeouts now. So now they can kick the ball and can finish the game because it's going to take four weeks to finish with 31. 1 seconds to go here. Well, they added some time. It was 28, so I guess they had to put some time back onto it.

They're paid hourly, I think, aren't they? Wow, they must be here today. Well, of course, that's not the officials calling the timeouts here. It's the, the coaches that are calling the timeouts. But we've had a lot of dialogue from our officials here this evening on the numerous penalties that we've had here in this ball game.

But I will say this, I think it was a well efficient and this has been a really good crew for these guys. And, you know, people, I've been a baseball, basketball guy for a long time. You know, it looks easy when you're sitting in the stands when little Johnny and little Susie, your children are out there playing. You think they get fouled in every play or whatever it happens. It's not that easy, trust me.

So these guys have done a nice job. They communicate, they've thrown the fouls for the appropriate time. And, you know, and that's hard for me to say because over the years I bashed guys like you can't believe, but I have a lot of respect for them because it's a hard job. So Duchene, as long as he can get this punt away, they're probably going to win the game. And now Deep man has gone back for Central Valley.

Here's the kick downfield. A low line drive is going to hit at the 44 and bounce up in the air and be killed at about the 47 or 8 yard line. And so Seavee will have it in prep territory and the officials will spot it at the 46. Well, Gonzaga prep is going to be your, your east region champion. And for the 3A40, there's no playoffs after this.

There's no, you know, district, regional or state, you know, for any sport. But still they can, you know, still celebrate a GSL championship and an undefeated GSL championship. Just like Shadow and West Valley can do the same thing at the 2A level, which is kind of cool. Abshire can add to his passing stats in this game. Unofficially, I have him at 401 yards.

That's his best day, isn't it? Absolutely. Three passing touchdowns, no intercept. Three receivers go to the right, two to the left. Ball on the left hash.

And what do we have more? It's going to be an illegal procedure call on cv. So that's going to cost him five yards and that's going to push the ball back to the 49. So CV at their own 49 here now they've got Brugman and Bowden out to the left side. Three men wide to the right.

Low snap on the ground and covered. That'll be it by the quarterback as Watkins falls on him. And what do we have? Clock's running. They're probably gonna come back and reset.

And if you're down inside of nine seconds, clock continue to run, they're gonna spike it. They get set, they spike it. 2 seconds. So clock continues. Ran down to 1.

1 seconds. I'll probably have to put a second or two on it. So this is going to be the last play of the game. Unless there's a penalty. Maybe.

But I like the fact that, you know, Central Valley's staff is engaged. They know exactly how much time. They knew what was going on. They utilize their timeouts. A gate.

They got the football back. They just have a long way to go. 60 yards from pay dirt and they are down two scores. Here's a deep ball down the right side. Jump ball.

And that ball is caught down at the 15 yard line. Bergman Hauls it in, but that's going to be the end of the ball game. 45 yards on the left. Last passing gain. Or check that 35 yards in the last passing gain.

Time now for our game recap as Gonzaga Prep is the East Region champion as they defeat Central Valley here this evening to complete a perfect spring season. A 5 and O record for the bullpups. Central Valley ends the year at 5 and 2.

Early on it was an offensive first quarter of play. CV had to punt to start the game. But then Gonzaga Prep got the ball eight plays 61 yards, Ortega one yard rushing touchdown and that made it seven to nothing in favor of Gonzaga Prep. CV answered a three play 70 yard drive, the final 51 a pass and run to Lawson the wide receiver and 51 yard play from Luke Abshire to to Josh Lawson and the point after was blocked and so a seven to six the score of that ballgame.

Gonzaga Prep. Then another eight yard drive or eight play drive rather and they got the ball down into the red zone and had to settle for a field goal to Shane. A 25 yard field goal that made it 10 to 7. Then the teams turned it over on downs after driving into the other team's territory. The next several tops with the football.

Prep took the ball down to the Prep or excuse me, CV took the ball down to the Prep 33, turned it over on downs. Prep took it to the CV29 turned it over on downs. CV took it to the prep 26 turn it over on downs. Gonzaga Prep then fumbled as they drove down to the CV9 and that's where the first half ended. It was still 10:6 in favor of Gonzaga Prep.

Prep got the ball to start the Second half and their offense was very hard to stop in the second half. They started a 61 yard drive in five plays. McKenna a nine yard passing touchdown to Hilburn. Point after good 17 to 6. CV three and out, had to punt it away and Gonzaga Prep fumbled on the first drive after taking over the CV24 after the punt and CV took it back at their own 28 yard line.

But then they had to punt again and Gonzaga Prep drove it down the field and Deshain kicked a 36 yard field goal to make it a 20 to 6 ball game. CV came back with an 88 yard drive and Kelly ran it in. Terrence Kelly ran it in from 3 yards out. Point after no good and was 20 to 12. Gonzaga prep scores again on a big reverse.

Put them in great scoring position and Ortega pounded it in from three yards out. Point after good 27 to 12, CV answers Abshire to Brugman. A 15 yard pass capping an 81 yard drive. Point after good 27 to 19 is the score. And now we get to our play of the game.

Brought to you by lamar Outdoor Advertising. Third down and three, Gonzaga Prep at their own 49 and they will run the option to the left side and McKenna will keep. And there he goes around the end. 45, 40 down the left side lines. 30, 25, 20 foot race and he's going to win it.

Touchdown Gonzaga prep. McKenna on a third and three, everybody in tight and they have hurt them on the outside all game. A double backflip in the end zone draws all sorts of flags and so that made it a 3319 game. The point after was good. It was 34 to 19 in favor of Gonzaga Prep.

So they had kept McKenna Paul under wraps the whole game. He had 18 yards rushing on 11 carries prior to that race run for a Gonzaga Prep. He finally got loose there in the fourth quarter. Well, and he also did an excellent job of pitching the ball to the outside, you know, and basically Collier was the benefit, you know, for a lot of those pitches and runs. And he had well over 140 yards rushing, got a ton of it outside, making some plays.

And they also had, you know, some big pass plays. So he was able to hurt this Central Valley defense, you know, basically by getting rid of the football, finding the open players and putting in their own hands. And then late he came back and made some big plays. CV wasn't out of it. They get a 68 yard passing touchdown and the first play back after the McKenna touchdown from Abshire to Lawson.

Point after good 34:26 but then prep with a 67 yard drive of their own. McKenna punching it in from the final yard out. 4126 the score at that time and that's the final here tonight. Let's go. With Luke Abshire for Central Valley. He had 438 yards pass passing. 436 yards passing and two touch three touchdowns. No interceptions.

He kept. He basically kept Central Valley in this game and, you know, showed why he's the best passing quarterback in the Greater Spokane League. Moved his touchdowns up to 14 on the season. Did a great job for CV and on the other side for Gonzaga, pep, Robert Collier. I thought the junior five 10, 190 pounder had an excellent game.

He rushed for 150 yards. He also had 32 receiving yards. A big pass that set up one of the touchdowns later in the game. That came right up the middle. He was wide open on and, you know, 182 yards of total offense for that young man.

McKenna has been getting a lot of love, but he had a lot of help, you know, here in this game. And those are our two players of the game, if you're okay with that. Absolutely. When these teams came into this ballgame, Central Valley had allowed four offensive touchdowns and only 40 points all year.

And Prep gets 41 against them tonight, so more points than they had allowed all season long. And Prep it only allowed one touchdown in the first three quarters of the game. In four games coming into this one they allow two. In this one they had allowed 32 points and they gave up 26 tonight, so almost as many as they had given up all year. So we thought this would be a defensive game and we get an offensive game.

For prep I had him at 368 yards of rushing, 102 passing, 470 yards, CV21 rushing yards, 436 passing for 457 yards unofficially of total offense. Those are just my stats which may be way off. Collier 13 carries, 150 yards the lead. Gonzaga Prep McKenna 20 for 91 and two touchdowns. Ortega seven for 55 and two touchdowns McKenna passing three out of five, 102 yards, one touchdown 32 yarder to Collier and then two catches for 70 yards for Hilburn.

A nine yard touchdown and a 61 yard run. That set up another prep touchdown for Central valley. Terrence Kelly, 18 carries, 44 yards and a touchdown leading them in the ground game. Abshire was sacked three times in the game. That was a minus 27 yards.

Abshire passing. I had him at 26 out of 45, 436 yards, three touchdowns, no interceptions. I had Brugman at nine catches for 166 yards and a touchdown. Lawson for six and 144 yards and two touchdowns. Anderson five for 60 in the ball game to lead at Central Valley.

Two fumble recoveries in the ball game. Defensively for Phillips of Central Valley, he was their leading defender as far as those things go. No interceptions on either side, no turnovers for CV in the ball game. And the final score again, 41 to 26 in this ball game. The last score we had was Rogers losing at Pullman 35 to nothing there in the fourth quarter of that ballgame.

Shadow park defeated Clarkston this evening and so they win the 2A race along with West Valley. They tie at 5 and oh on top of the 2A race and prep at 5 and oh on top of THE 4A 3A race as well with Matt Spokane finishing second and CV. Just like all teams that win the GSL this spring and all sports, they will all get championship T shirts from Casey Enterprises. And you know, well done. I know it's frustrating.

You don't get to go on to districts or regionals or state, but still you get a league title and with the circumstances that have come to pass, it's just great to get games in to get a chance to come out and play.
