Get ready to take on the Monroe Bearcats, the number 10 seed overall. They are 22 and three the season. Mount Spokane lost in the opening round last week on Saturday in Spokane as they fell to Seattle Prep by the score of 61 to 47. Prep led by seven at the half put the game away by outgoing Mount Spokane by 10 points in the third quarter. So Mount Spokane, the number two seed loses in the opening round so that puts them into a loser out game.

Today they will take on Monroe. Monroe they defeated gig harbor on 6233 on Saturday to advance to Tacoma for the first time since the 1993-94 season. So 31 years since their first state playoff win or excuse me, since their last state playoff win, their first since that 9394 season and they in the district championship defeated Edmonds Woodway which is the number two team in RPI in 3A coming into this tournament.

So it's Mount Spokane taking on Monroe here this evening. This portion of our pregame show brought to you by Providence Healthcare. Mount Spokane has not really been able to get any kind of a long winning streak going this year, but they haven't had really any kind of a long losing streak either so far this season. Their longest winning streak was four. They had won seven of their last eight before losing to Seattle Prep in the opening round on Saturday and their losses have for the most part get it been against really good teams.

Mount Spokane lost to the number 10 team in the RPI on the 4A side, Mead, and to the number 1 4A team, Gonzaga Prep, twice each. They also also lost to the number 3 4A team in Richland, number 7 4A team in Davis, Seattle Prep, obviously number 14 and 3A in the ball game on Saturday as well as to Lake City. They defeated Post Falls, they defeated the number six four a team, West Valley of Yakima and the number 11 for a team in Kentwood. So it's Mount Spokane. Take it on Monroe.

They defeated Gig Harbor as we mentioned, 62:33 in the opening round and Dave Nichols sitting to my right from the spokesman review reminds me this is the round of 12 officially as we've gone from 16 in the opening round down to 12. Four teams will be eliminated tonight and then we'll be down to the final eight which then basically play double elimination to decide who's going to be the champion in there. Monroe plays out of the West Coast North. It's not necessarily a strong league.

They were 10 0, they were fifth in the RPI on the 3A side of things. They did defeat number two Edmonds Woodway in their district championship. They won that game by the score of 61 56. They have a number of different players that can hurt you. They've got Wyatt Prone, he's the son of the head coach.

He had 14 points in their win over Gig Harbor. Kieran Greer had 12, Caleb Campbell had 11. But then in the district championship game against Edmonds Midway, it was Isaiah Keel with 19 points, Chase Waite Keller had 16. 7 boards and Dominic Castillo off the bench for nine points and eight rebounds. So they've had at least six different guys in the last two games leading them in scoring.

And so this is a team that gets production from a number of different players as we look at their team this year, just the second trip to state for Monroe. First when it was in 1994. They went 2 and 2, finished eighth for Mount Spokane. This is their eighth straight time at State Under David Wagonblast, who's in his 10th year, they have finished second twice. They finished third.

They have also finished fifth in those previous times with an 89 record. They're hoping to even that up at 99 and advance to where they'll assure themselves of a trophy if they get into play tomorrow. Lincoln, the sixth seed moves in tomorrow but I'll play the fifth seed Edmonds Woodway, winner of this game will move on and they will play Bellarmine Prep tomorrow at 5:30. The loser of this game is done. Then number 13 Liberty plays fourth seed at Bellevue at 7:15 and a big game tonight. The defending champs I believe and yeah Eastside Catholic will play the number one seed in Rainier beach this evening at 9:00 clock with a winner of that game going against the seventh seed Seattle Prep, the team that beat Mount Spokane last week.

On the Foray Boys side, number 14 seed Arlington defeated or lost a Glacier park today I should say number three Glacier Peak number beat Arlington 5049 to 42. Glacier Peak moves on to play fifth seeded Canvas tomorrow morning. Second seed at Auburn. They knocked off the tenth seed Olympia 56 45. So tomorrow at 10:30 it'll be the number two seed Auburn against number one Gonzaga Prep.

We'll have that ballgame for you right here. 4 seeded Richland beat the 13 seed Emerald Ridge. Richland plays 6 seeded West Valley of Yakima tomorrow at 12:15 and number 8 seed Puyallup beat number 9 Davis and Puyallup will play Mount Si tomorrow afternoon. Another quarterfinal. 4A girls just finished number 6 Auburn defeated the 11th seed Redmond.

They'll play number 4 Woodinville tomorrow. Lake Stevens taking on Camis in a 15 versus 7 battle. The winner plays Sumner number 13 Glacier Peak versus number 5 Union and then later tonight the 9 seed Mead taking on the number 1 seed Davis and we'll have that game approximately 8:45 for the pregame and 9 o' clock for the game.

Time might be a little later than that. The games are already running a little bit behind today. The winner plays number two seed Lake Washington tomorrow at 9pm the number 19 seed Garfield team continued their run through the tournament. They beat the third seed White river today. Tomorrow they'll play four seeded Stanwood starting at nine.

Kennewick plays the number one seed Central Valley tomorrow at 10:30 after the seventh seeded Lions beat number 15 Roosevelt today. We will not have radio coverage of that game tomorrow. Reason being we have not called a Gonzaga Prep boys game this year. We have called Gonzaga Prep or Central Valley girls games and so we'll give Gonzaga Prep some play tomorrow. If those teams were to play on the same time on on Friday then we'll do the Central Valley girls game.

5th seeded Seattle Prep beat number 12 east side Catholic, number 17 Bellevue over 8 seeded Meadowdale as well. Seattle Prep plays 6 seeded Lakeside tomorrow and the 17th ranked Bellevue team will take on number 2 North Thurston. 2A Deer park plays later. Actually they'll play tomorrow against the winner of a game later tonight between WF west and North Mason. The West Valley boys seeded fourth.

They lost to the 12th seed Franklin Pierce today 59 to 50, so they're out of the tournament. West Valley couldn't shoot today. They shot five out of 29 on two point shots in that loss today. Reigning with it against the two three zone. Looking for somebody to pass it to. Finds Gureshi underneath. He tries to dunk it in good and one. He didn't get a dunk on it that time as he got fouled on his way up, but it rolled over the front iron and went in.

And going to the line for one shot here is Gureshi and we've got time called Jake Lindberger wants to come in, but they're not going to let him come in if he doesn't tuck in his shirt. Alley oop lob. Garreshy for a lap, too strong. Inside rebound is grabbed out of there for Mount Spokane, though, by Lindberger. He'll dribble out in the left corner, pitch it to Vargas again the lob underneath. Gureshi comes down, tries to lay it up.

Can't get it to fall. Rebound out of bounds and it goes off of Gureshi. It'll be Monroe basketball and for Monroe. They bring Greer back into the ball game and he replaces Prone. So Hall.

Dylan Hall, a 61 senior, will inbound and he'll get into isaiah Keel, the 62 sophomore who will be met by Colt Kennison at 6 4. The senior past right wing, goes to Greer. He'll drive, pitch it out, top of the key. Keel probes and backs out. Now kicks it back over on the right to Greer.

Now inside. Here's a spinning move and a shot put up. Good inside. Nice move by Chase Waite. Keller inside and it's 11 7.

Mount Spokane lead. Vargas into the forecourt. Working the right side, Lobs a pass out to Lindberger up top. Lindberger dribbles out there now feeds it out near the center circle to Vargas. He'll probe out there, start to work to the left side.

Gets it into the corner to Kinison. Kinison starts to back in. Bounce pass. Vargas drives in the lane, feeds back. Kinnison underneath.

Reverse layup shot. Might have been partially blocked. Gureshi had the rebound, lost it out of bounds. And it'll be Monroe basketball off Gureshi on the way out. Gureshi will head to the bench.

Estroscher is back in. And for Monroe, they bring Tate Hammerquist into the ball game. A 510 junior to play. Point bounce pass, high post. Goes to wake Keller into the left corner.

Boy, those numbers are hard to read with gray on the orange. Here's a drive by Hall. Flips one up. No good. And he'll go to the line to shoot two.

Nalu Vargas, I think is going to get hit with his second foul here. That's a big foul on Mount Spokane. And it comes with 2:15 left here in the first quarter. Here comes Rock Franklin. He'll check into the game for the first time.

Looks for the high post. Feeds the high post. Now gets it to Strosher. Now around to Franklin on the left. He'll dump it inside at the high post.

Leans into a shot off backboard and rim. Too hard. No good. Rebound collected by Castillo for Monroe. Gives it off to Hammerquest, who will trot into the forecourt.

So David Wagonblast rolled the dice, putting Vargas in with two personal fouls here in the quarter. They needed his outside shooting in the end. He doesn't get an outside shot off and he picks up a third foul.

But the Wildcats have an eight point lead. Guinnessen at 64 has been causing the point guards problems for Monroe so far in this ball game. And back into the game is Tate Hammerquist. He'll drive, kicking into the corner. Campbell for three off the back rim.

They scored the first basket of the game, led it 2 to nothing and after that a 6 nothing run for Mt. Spokane. They took a 6 to 2 lead. Monroe cut it to 1 at 6 to 5. Mt.

Spokane up the lead to 11 to 5 as they got a good run there to take that 11 to 5 lead. Monroe came back, tied the game at 11. Mount Spokane, though, got a basket from Jaden Greshi, led at 15:12 at the end of the first quarter. They cut it to one again at 15 to 14. Still trailed by just two at 17:15.

Mount Spokane scored three straight hoops, the last two by Gureshi. Tyson Lewis also with a basket in there. It was the biggest lead of the game at eight points at 23:15. They led by eight at the half, 25:17. Mount Spokane only scored two baskets in the third quarter of play, but they limited Monroe scoring as well.

Monroe scored the first four points of the quarter, cut the lead in half from eight to four at 25:21. Three free throws for Mount Spokane. Put the lead out to 28, 21. Then a steal and a basket for Nalu Vargas made it a 30 to 21 ballgame. Mount Monroe came back to within five at 30 to 25.

But a basket by Lindberger made it 32 25. And that's how we ended the third quarter of play. Then in the fourth quarter, a play, a great start for Mount Spokane. It ends up being our play of the game. Presented by Adams.

They make three out of nine from the three point line just 11 to 21 from the foul line in this ballgame. They'll need to improve that 52% for Mt. Spokane there for Monroe though they shoot 15 out of 42, 35.

7% just 1 of 12 beyond the arc. They were 8 out of 13 from the foul line. Rebounding. Mt. Spokane dominated the boards 41 to 21 in this ball game.

Mt. Spokane did turn it over 17 times to 10 for Monroe in this ball game, but second chance points Mt. Spokane 19 to Monroe's 2 in this ball game and points off turnovers. Only a 16 to 13 edge for Monroe even though they had seven fewer turnovers than Mt. Spokane.

Mt. Spokane took advantage of almost all the Monroe turnovers, basically, and Monroe did not take advantage of. They might have done half at Most of the Mt. Spokane turnovers here in this ball game, but those 19 second chance points to two, a huge stat in this ball game. 20 offensive rebounds for Mt.

Spokane here in this game. All right. Individually, Jaden Gureshi. Big, big, big, big, big game for the big man. 24 points on nine of 18 shootings, four out of seven from the foul line.

He had two out of three threes in the game. Gureshi with 24. But that's not the only reason why his game was big here today. Now, I'm going to give you our scoring. What both Dave Nichols and I agree on is the scoring, and then I'll tell you how the official scoring disagrees.

But they missed three or four baskets over there and misappropriated things, so I'm going to go with ours. But what you see on the newspaper tomorrow may not be exactly what we had it with. Nalu Vargas, nine points in the ball game, four points each for Jason Rainen and Tyson Lewis, three each for Jake Lindberger and Cole Kenison, and one point for Jason Phillips in the ball game. Now, how the scoring has it or how the stat sheet has it here, and they should confirm this with the official scorer. I don't know that they will.

Goreshi, 24, Vargas, nine, five each for Kinison and Lindberger. So instead of three, they both have five. And rain in Lewis, rather than having four, both have two. And then Jason Phillips with one point. All right, for Monroe, again, we'll tell you what I have and then what the stats have.

But what I have is the real. Both Dave and I agree that we're right here on this thing. Caleb Campbell, 13 points in the ball game, seven for Chance Wake, Keller, five for Kieran Greer, four points each for Tate Hammerquist, Isaiah Keel and Dominic Castillo, and two points for Dylan Hall.

Now, the score sheet here has Campbell with 11 and then Wyatt Prone with 2. So I don't believe that's the case, but it's possibility. Campbell wears one, Prone wears 11. I think that we're right here, but maybe we're not in that particular situation. But I know we're right with what the Mount Spokane stat should say.

All right, so Gureshi, I said big, big, big, big, big game for him. 24 points, 18 rebounds as well. In this game, he drew seven fouls. He also blocked two shots and had a steal in this ball game. Nobody else had more than four rebounds for Mount Spokane in this one.

So this is a Davis team that is 20 and three on the season. They've got some really good players. Four sophomores start for this team. They are the number one team in the RPI in the state. Meade is the number nine seed.

They're back at state for the fourth consecutive year and they're coming into this ball game with some momentum as well as they beat Eastmont in the opening round on Saturday to punch their ticket to Tacoma. So Mead takes on Davis. That ball game we should have pregame pretty darn close to 8:45. So take a little break, come back and we'll join you again here for me versus Davis and lose around action. The number one seed, Davis against number nine Mead coming up here again in about an hour and 15 minutes.
