3 FM. As we get started on tonight's pregame show, it is so great to have you with us for the next couple of hours on the Arby's GSL Game of the Week. My name is Greg Talbot joined tonight by former Eastern defensive star Dehante Hayes. We are with you for the rest of the night for Lewis and Clark in Cheney. Coming your way at the top of the hour, a couple teams with a lot of promise, both of which to Hunter, are trying to start to get over.

They're going to try to get over the hump tonight. These are two teams with a lot of talent, but they both got a couple of fatal flaws. Yeah, they both can work on a few things that will allow them to be a better overall team going into each game, whether it's on defense, whether it's on offense, whether it's on special teams and I'm excited to see what changes they've made within this week that's going to allow them to come out here and play great.

The Lewis and Clark Tigers coming into this one are two and two so far on the young season as we head towards October, they picked up a rivalry win against Ferris and a blowout win against Ridgeline. But as you might imagine, Dehante and this is kind of how it goes in the gsl also lost to Central Valley and Mount Spokane. Yep, that's usually what happens. That's exactly what happens. Lewis and Clark is in their second year running the triple option.

They tried to model themselves after the military academies, obviously locally try to model themselves after Gonzaga prep. They've had some really good success, especially because of a couple of really unique skill guys. We're going to see a lot of gents Hilburn tonight. Yeah, Gents Hilburn. Last game that I watched him play and he looked amazing.

He was poised, he looked great. He was able to keep his energy levels low and do everything that they needed, whether it was on offense, defense or as a punt returner and kick returner. Was Jen Tilburn the best player on the field that night? It was. It was rough.

He played a great, a very, very great game. However, he was surrounded by good talent as well. His teammates were doing everything they need to do to help them continue to go forward and get that win on that specific night. So Hilburn is the one taking the carries tonight. But they do have a new quarterback.

In case you haven't heard about Lewis and Clark this year. His name is Cooper Jeffries. Last year was his first year ever playing tackle football as a sport, but he's just an amazing competitor, supposedly a great baseball player and they're very happy with how he has done coming into this new option system as a quarterback.

Deontay, how did it look to you that night? He looked very good, honestly. They weren't passing it too much. It was a little hot outside. The sun was definitely playing a huge factor within the, within the game.

However, he did what he needed to do. He allowed his team to stay in control. There was a lot of down times during the, during the game. He allowed them to stay focused, stay together and that's why they came out with the win. Their coach, Joe.

Joe Farland said this week that all he wants is for the Lewis and Clark Tigers to be the most physical team on the field every week and they've got a chance to do that tonight. Yeah, the thing about that is that they don't have as many players as what other teams normally have or they don't have as many players are going to play tonight and be a factor within this game. So with the players that are on the field, have to go out there and make a stand and show that they're supposed to be here. Meanwhile, on the other side of the field tonight, the Cheney Blackhawks. They're one in three this season.

They also picked up a win against Ferris, shut them out 15 nothing. But here's the scary part for them coming into this game to hanse their three losses, maybe not surprisingly, to Prep Central Valley and U High. They were shut out in all of those games. Yeah, that's unfortunate, especially when you I mean they played three very, very good teams that have great coaching staffs and everything that's that allowed them to come out with that win, of course, but they have to make sure that they put points on the board.

Tonight They've got a second year QB1 and Jacob Valance, who has become one of the more hotly recruited quarterbacks out of the area, got D3 offers to Puget Sound, Lewis and Clark down in Portland, a couple others. The problem is he's just not getting protection. Yeah, when you don't have an offensive line that's protecting the way you need to, it's very hard for you to throw those touchdowns and put the stats out there that show that you're the quarterback that everyone thinks you are.

We got the East Valley versus West Valley game tomorrow on SW X. We got to make sure everyone tunes in for that one for sure. It should be a nail biter for sure. Yeah, that's a great rivalry game. Always is.

And you know what's interesting is that is a great local rivalry game. Somehow it's not even the best game of the weekend because we finally got a couple really good ones here. The headliner coming up tomorrow night is Mead at Central Valley. Again, Mead surprised people. Dante, you Were here on tv.

Did Mead look. Let me rephrase this question in advance. I will be honest. I teach at Mead. However, I thought Mead looked as good as G Prep last week.

I really did. Yeah. So the thing that makes me stand out so much last week was just the fact that they were so aggressive, so strong and getting turnovers on defense, which was outstanding. They did a great job on defense. Even though the score may have showed that they got scored on a little bit.

It was just big chunk plays that were initially their downfall. Yeah. So me going up against Central Valley out in the Valley tomorrow night is going to be one huge crowd after that G Prep Game 2. It's going to be one of the best games of the year. It definitely is.

And I'm excited to see what happens. Me is going to show them exactly what they've done this year, how far they've came, and I'm excited. All right. Other games we have coming up tomorrow night. Ridgeline at Gonzaga Prep.

That one might end up going the way that Cheney Prep went in week one, which is 58 nothing. You never know. Across town here we are at Union Stadium tonight. Mount Spokane will play Post Falls out of Idaho. Ferris at U High.

And Rogers at Shadow Park. Always a fun one. Shadow's got some talent. They are young Rogers, always physical. All in all, you know, for the fact that we're still in late September.

Got to say coming into this one the hunter that Lewis and Clark is favored but not, not favored in a blowout. Yeah, they're not favored too much. However, they are favored because they, they have some pretty, pretty star players on their team. And let's go ahead and talk about some of those guys as we jump into our keys to the game. Okay, the Honda. Let's get in your keys to the game. Cheney is the away team tonight. Let's start with them. I saw Cheney with Paul Sorensen here on the radio.

In Week one, they played Gonzaga Prep. They got blown out. It was 58 nothing. However, they had a couple touchdowns called back. And it was interesting as we watched them lose by 58 points to Gonzaga Prep.

Paul and I kept saying, boy, if they weren't playing G Prep, there'd be a lot of stuff that we liked here because they've got some really good players. So talk to us about the Blackhawks keys to the game. Well, I haven't seen them quite yet, but knowing that Cordell Lar is leading in catches with 25 this season already show that they have to feed him early on. They have to get him going. He has to be a main target for them coming out the gates.

Yeah, no question about it. Cordell Lar, not only is it leading the league in catches with 25, which is pretty amazing through, what, just four games, he's also third in the GSL and receiving yards. So, yes, he is a slot guy, but he's also getting that yak. Exactly. And another thing for Cheney, they're going to have to give Jacob Valance time in the pocket.

He's doing a great job of getting chunky yardage every time he completes a pass. However, he's not getting the touchdowns that they need in order for them to win. That's the unbelievable thing about Jacob valance. This guy's 6 foot 4, 195 pounds. He's got an arm, he's got composure.

He looks like a college quarterback. He's second in the conference in total individual offense, 870 yards, but he's just not getting the protection. He has one touchdown and three picks. Yeah, and that's just not going to cut it if they want to come away with the win tonight. And that brings me to their third, third and final key that I have for the defense.

They're going to have to key on Gents Hilburn. You think of lc, you thinking of Jen Hilbert? Jen Hilbert, Jen Hilburn, wherever he is, whatever he's doing, they have to key on him and make sure he is not a factor in this game. All right, so speaking of Jen Hilburn, let's get to Lewis and Clark. What?

What? What keys to the game do you have for the Tigers? Like you said, speaking of Jen Hilburn, they're going to have to get gents going early. He is a game changer. He's a factor.

He's going to be their main opportunity to be able to win this game. Gen, the 5 foot 10 senior, he's the best skilled player in Spokane straight up, I'll say it live on the radio. 602 yards this year, leads the league in rushing, five touchdowns. His coach openly says that they try to get him 20 touches a game and I have nothing against that. What if he's doing what he's doing every single game?

Then give him the ball as much as possible. Which brings me to the second key of the day for lc. Allow the attention from gents to open up deep shots downfield. They did a great job of this against fairs. They had huge opportunities early on when I watched them early on in the year and they just weren't able to convert on those opportunities.

However, tonight's going to be a huge opportunity for them to be able to do that a later game. It's not bright out like it was on that specific night and the receivers are going to have a chance to go make some plays. Yeah, the funny thing about the Tigers is ever since they went to the option, everyone is rushing six or seven every play that has allowed guys like Sam Torre and Tyler Jones, their pair of six foot three receivers, it's like become stars.

That's exactly what they need. They have so much attention on gents. Go ahead and allow these wide receivers to make big plays and make big catches down the field. And for the number three, go ahead and final key for lc, their defense is going to have to pressure Jacob Valance. He's obviously a very, very good quarterback.

He's accurate. He's making huge plays downfield and getting chunk yards when he has the opportunity to do so. And if they shut him down, they will have a huge chance to run away with this win easily. It's 2 and 2 Lewis and Clark and 1 and 3 Cheney. A couple of really good teams with a couple of the best individual players in the gsl between Jen Silburn and Jacob Valance. The question is to Hanta, the rest of the team, who's going to rally around for them tonight? All they need to do is have their leaders, their quarterbacks, everyone who is there for them. Who who leads them every single day in practices, whether it's in workouts, no matter what they're doing to step up and hold their teams together.

You never know. There could be downs in this game, there could be ups in this game, but Stay together, stay at the team and go out there and get a win. The Tigers go fast. They are now a triple option military academy sports style football team, the Genie Blackhawks. They've got a couple brothers who are running backs.

They like to run, but really they're, they're a spread it out team. So we're going to see up tempo and we're going to see down tempo. It's the best of both worlds. Honestly. We're going to see a lot of football from both these teams.

You're not really going to know what to expect. Every time I watch one of these teams, they're doing stuff that they normally don't do because they're trying to get a win out there. And it's going to come your way at the top of the hour. I think it's going to be a fun one tonight. And nobody knows tonight at Union Stadium what's going to happen.

He was not there in week one when we saw him against G Prep at wide receiver. They've got a couple cordell Lahr, who leaves the conference and catches with 25. Also Josh Bingham and Camden Collins.

Gabe Bradley, their big tight end, 6 foot 2, 225, lines up on the side and their offensive line is Matai Jarmes, George Schubert, Cole Palmer, Kaden Stradley and Eli Axtell. You know what's interesting to Hante coming into this season, they said a lot of guys are back on the line, but they just have not been getting balanced time. Yeah, it's honestly very unfortunate when you can't get your older guys to quite do their job all the way. But I mean, hey, you never know what they can come out here and be today. The defensive starters for the Cheney Blackhawks, Miles Hoover, Devon Perro, George Siebert to a player and Alex Hubbard.

On the defensive line, the linebackers, they've got three Micah Ragazza, Barrassa, James Gusky and Simi Singho. And the dbs, Owen Scott, Silas Brown, Josh Bingham and Tyler Ashcroft. Genie, not a small team, but. But you know that some of those two way players are there for a reason. Yeah, the two way players are there because they are the people who's going to go out there and make the plays with their own offense on defense.

They can trust them, they believe in them. And that's exactly what you need from those players. Yeah, they certainly are. Now let's go ahead and get to the starters for the 2 and 2 Lewis and Clark Tigers tonight. Their captains are Tommy Mickelson, Charles Northern, Elijah Soder and Gavin Kalarsky.

The starting offense for the Tigers, here's their offensive line, Matthew Endicott, Ian Shorts, Miles Raya, Cade Parbon and Gabe Daniel. Only two receivers because they send them deep and have him block all the time. It's their stars, Sam Torre and Tyler Jones. A couple of running backs and gents Hilburn, Tommy Mickelson and Bennett Hendrickson. Again they run that triple option.

They've got three. And the quarterback, his second year ever playing tackle football, but he's been sensational. Is the junior Cooper Jeffries. Yeah, Cooper Jeffries definitely is going to come out here and show them what he's capable of. And that's something that ch looking forward to.

What did you like about him when you saw him on TV a couple weeks ago? I just love how poison, how control he was in the pocket. He wasn't doing anything that he's not used to doing. He was making accurate throws. He was able to make good completions and he wasn't all over the place.

He was very, very controlled the entire game. And the starting defense for the Tigers. Here's their line, Charles Northern, Braden Hall, Gabe Daniel and Tyler Jones. They put four down three linebackers, Aiden Haugen, Kate Parbon and Elijah Soder. Their safeties, Tommy Mickelson and Caleb Kosteka, both of whom are running backs and their corners, Sam Torrey, who's also a receiver, and Ben Norton who is also one of their running backs.

So a lot of DD running back crossover with his team which is very common. Honestly your your skill position guys are usually the people who will play on both sides and you as you can see those guys that you just named off the guys that make the most plays and again the starters in tonight's game. Cheney spreads it out, but the quarterback, Jacob Valance, good as he is, only a 52% complete passer. And that's what makes me lean towards LC. It's very difficult for a team where you're you're not getting good pass protection to be able to go downfield and score. When you're known for spreading it out and throwing downfield. We will see how it goes.

So the the official former Eastern Washington star is on the LC Tigers tonight. They would be the favorites at 2 2, but Cheney has a lot going for them as they get ready to take the field on the far left side. It's a nice night at Union Stadium. It was raining earlier. It is not raining anymore.

Listen to that band. It's the Lewis and Clark Tigers and the Cheney Blackhawks coming your way here as the Tigers in their classic orange jerseys with black pants and black helmets take the field. They're on the left side of the field there, looks like they're back to receive and the Cheney Blackhawks in their red pants, black helmets and white jerseys will take it away right to left across your radio.

De Haunte Hayes in case people are just turning this game on, why do you think LC has the edge? LC has the edge because they have an outstanding player in James Hilburn, he does everything they need him to do by playing running back and db and he's automatically someone that they're going to go to when they need a play or they need some yards downfield. He's doing what he needs to do. They have a great quarterback overall, they have a good team. They got to work on a few things to be a great team.

However, they're getting there and I'm excited to see what they do tonight. Josh Bingham, number five, will kick it away for the Cheney Blackhawks. Again. The Blackhawks tonight in black helmets, red pants, white jerseys, red, white and black. The ball is on the 40 yard line on the right side of the field.

They'll kick it right to left, across your radio dial and back to receive for Lewis and Clark is who else? Jens Hilburn waiting at the goal line. Bingham's right hand is in the air. He runs up to the 40 yard line, puts his right foot into it and we are underway tonight from Union Stadium in Mead. Kicks it right to left across your radio.

Hilburn receives at the at the two yard line. Here he comes past the 10, past the 15, past the 20, cuts right down the hash. Spins past the 25. There's a flag back at the 10 yard line, but he's still on his feet. 30, 35, 40.

Cuts to the left hash to the four sideline. 45, 50. He gets across midfield on the opening kick, but we've got a flag back at the 20. And you see how he runs out without even being tackled there. That shows how slippery and how hard he is to bring down to the ground.

He made at least nine guys miss on that one play. There was an unnecessary holding play there, but that was pretty much it. So Hilburn, with some illegal help of a couple of his guys on special teams, got somehow from the 2 yard line to across midfield. But this one is definitely coming back. So the question is where will the referees mark it tonight?

On the opening kick, during the return. Full on the return team, number 52. That was a penalty on Ian Short, so this should put them back near. Darn near the 10 yard line instead of midfield. Yeah, and that's gonna definitely hurt them and that's something they gotta watch more to later on in the game.

You have a star like gents doing a lot of stuff in order to make that pick up all those yards and you take it back all the way back to the 10 number. It's very unfortunate and that you're burning his energy. That's big yards There. So Here comes the 5 foot 10 right handed quarterback, Cooper Jeffries. He's been sensational his first year running this Lewis and Clark triple option offense.

Comes out under center from the 10 yard line, puts a man in motion, swings and pitches it to the near side. Coming along the right side is Caleb Costeca, one of their five or six running backs. He got back to the line of scrimmage, maybe pushed forward for a yard or two along the yard, near side. Either way, short game, they're called that. A gain of 2.

I wouldn't be surprised to come back to that play. More towards the field instead of to the boundary. You give your players some more space to make actually a play there. You kind of just ran out of green there. So she comes out on defense with man six down linemen ready to rush the triple option.

Here it comes. They feed it up the middle. That was a big one to Aidan Howegan, the six foot senior bruiser running back. Maybe a gain of what, two or three on the play. They'll say he got to the 14 yard line.

So it's going to be third down and six to go. Seeing some good defense here from Cheney. Honestly they're holding the run. Stirred down. They're backed up on their own.

We got LC backed up on their own. I mean it's looking good right now for Cheney. Get the three and out here. Get the ball. They can put some early points up.

Lewis and Clark, third down and six from their own 14 yard line on the left side of the field. Everyone's going in motion. They feed to Jen Silver. No, that ball's on the ground. They tried to run some kind of reverse sweep.

Instead it ends up on the ground. Elsie Falls on it, but either way that's a loss on the play. That'll force fourth down and they will go three and out on their opening possession. It's not really the opening possession I expected however. I feel like they should have handed that one off to Jens there.

That was a great play. He had a huge gap. The the fake the ball through was 4 yards, 5 yards downfield. He would have picked up the first down, no question about it. So Lewis and Clark will punt here from their own 14.

Back to kick it away is Ben Orton from inside the Lewis and Clark end zone. It's a good snap. He's got it in the air. Back to receive at midfield. There's Cheney and a big hit delivered there on Josh Bingham who is back to receive.

Outstanding tackle. That's how you set the tone there. You come out you have a great special teams drive on the first one. Penalty takes it back. You go three.

And now that he's set the tone again on special teams once again shows what type of team Elsie is trying to trying to be this this game. So cheating will take over with pretty great field position from their own 46 yard line on the right side of the field. The Blackhawks will go right to left across your radio dial here in the first quarter. Jacob Valance. Out he comes, the 6 foot 4 senior quarterback.

195 pounds, big guy, looks like a quarterback offers to Puget Sound and Lewis and Clark. And a lot of people think, think that more coming to Hante. I wouldn't be surprised to see what he does tonight. He's got three receivers split to the left and one to the right. Two deep safeties back for LC on first down.

They bring a linebacker blitz. Here it comes, a sweep to Jeremiah Hubbard along the right side. He came out of the backfield, got back to the line of scrimmage. But we have a flag at the line of scrimmage. Tommy Mickelson had the tackle.

We're going to be hearing his name a lot tonight on both sides, sides of the ball. And let's hear what the referees have to say. They're signaling holding on Cheney on their first play on offense. That'll kill you. Yeah, it's just on both sides.

Those holding penalties are what's going to going to hurt you. It takes the momentum away. First play of the game, you want to go ahead and first play your drive you want to go ahead and get things going, you get a little antsy. But hopefully those things wash away. They'll be good deontay.

I'm interested to know what you think about Cheney. Their one win was 15 nothing. Their three losses, they all got shut out. How does that happen? You know, sometimes you just don't execute.

It's very hard when you don't have any protection to try and make big plays down the field. If you don't have any protection, that means you're probably not gonna be able to run the ball as well. It's just you're putting yourself in a position not to be able to make the plays that you want to make. And hopefully these penalties are just something that's gonna be gone towards the end of the game. After the loss on the penalty, they now are back at their own 36 yard line with first down.

And what man about the first down and 20 after the penalty. So Valens surveys the defense. LC has four down three linebackers and two deep safeties. Surveys the defense. The right handed quarterback takes the snap, drops back.

It's a design run. Oh, but the defensive line there from Lewis and Clark there to gobble him up. Back at the line of scrimmage. A phenomenal tackle down low by Braden Hall. That'll go down as a sack.

That was very nice. Elsie's defensive line got a really nice knockback here on this, on this Cheney officer line knocked it back so much that when the QB tried to go run, he tried to. It was a design QB run and he ran directly into his office line and then that's what allowed that tackle to happen. So nice. The clock is running 9:45 to go in the first quarter.

No score between Lewis and Clark and Cheney. LC went three and out on there for series and now Cheney has it from their own 33 yard line. After the sack it's second down and 24. Two receivers split to the right, one to the left. Here it comes.

A line drive pass off to the right from balance it's complete pass hauled in by Cordell are he leads league and catches. That's now 26. Here's what's amazing. He's 5 foot 7. He's a small guy.

Small guy and those sometimes are the easiest targets to throw to because they're small, quick and they just get open. But a small gain on the Play. Call it four yards. It's back to third down and 20 for the Cheney Blackhawks with nine minutes to go in the first quarter. If they want a first they've got to get it across midfield.

The Lewis and Clark 44. Listen to the train coming here at Mead at Union Stadium and listen to those students in the LC student section cheering for their defense here on 3rd and 20. Valance surveys the defense. Gets a good snap at the waist, steps up in the pocket. He's going to try to run.

Can't throw to anybody. Gets to the 40, gets to about the 45. Got a gain of about 10 on the play but he's still 10 short. Got to his own 45. Fourth down and 10 and they will punt.

We see some good things from balance even though they they have a three and out here. That pass that he completed that for the short game was very accurate, very on point and he was fast. The Lewis and Clark band and student section loves hearing that they are in what appears to be. They're all in a highlighted color so they look like construction is the is is the theme tonight. They're dressed up in construction uniforms, but highlighter colors in a big one for a Thursday night.

Anyway, it's fourth down and 20. Here comes the snap. They get the punt away. Hilburn back to receive, but it won't go far enough. Bounce to the 30 yard line and then skips.

8 minutes and 25 seconds left to go in the first quarter between Lewis and Clark and Cheney here on the RB's GSL game of the Week. We just came back from commercial break and would you look at that. Lewis and Clark ran it up the gut and they fumbled it away. It looks like Cheney fell on it. So the Blackhawks get the ball back this time on the Lewis and Clark 37 yard line on the left side of the field.

Those are two big the start of this game on both sides has been very hard for the teams. I mean we getting penalties after penalties on both sides. Then you a fumble. They're a little bit sluggish, but it shows that it could be the change of the weather. It could be so many different things.

The dynamics are different here. All right, so Both teams went three and out on their first drives of the game, 819 to go. Still no score between Cheney and LC but now great field position for Jacob Valance and his Cheney Blackhawks. He's a 52% passer, but he's thrown for almost 650 yards in four weeks. Here comes his first pass of the next drive.

Comes to Cameron Collins, dumps it off on the screen pass on the near side, scoots past the 35, down to the 32 or 33, gain a six. It's a good play call there. I mean, chipping away at this defense, at the LC defense is what it's going to take in order. He doesn't have the best pass protection. Get those little routes, allow them to open up and get some yards downfield.

He got that out of his hand fast. Yeah, as soon as he caught the ball, he turned it through that screen as quick as he could and they picked up a good amount of yardage. So Valance here, it's only a second year's QB one, but he made such big strides from this time a year ago. Not only does he just look more confident, but he's getting rid of the ball faster too, which in football nowadays is important. That's very important.

I mean you have QBs who are throwing the ball within two to one seconds. When I was playing it was three every single time. And he does it again here, drops back, throws far side. It is off the hand of Josh Bingham, off the hands of these six foot seniors. One of his more dependable guys falls to the field incomplete.

It'll be third down and six. That's the kind of thing they can't do tonight. No, these, these self, these self made errors and problems that they're going through for both teams are just things that can be fixed and erased and washed away. And I think that throughout the duration of this game they're going to fix those problems. All right, so after the drop pass by bigam, it's now third down and along six for Cheney.

They were at the Lewis and Clark 34 yard line. They got to get down to the 27th, balance out of the gun, has two receivers split to each side, gets a high snap. Linebacker, let's come. And he steps up and down he goes at the 40. In on the sack for Lewis and Clark, it was number 51, Gabe Daniel.

We're going to be calling his name all night. Man, did he look good on that one, Dante? He looked great in the huge. Part of the reason why that was even possible because gents, they sent the blitz, they had just rush off the edge which pulled the running back away and the running back had to pick up gents jets took a big hit for his team which allowed that sack to happen right there.

And that's huge. That's exactly what you need. All right, so the clock now hits seven minutes to go in the first quarter, but Valance is coming back out because this ball is now at the 39 yard line on the left side of the field. And you might as well go for it in this situation because it might go out of the end zone if you punt it. So they're gonna go for it here.

On fourth down and 13, here comes Valance, drops back, gets a lot of time, throws far side. He's got Josh Bingham. Can't turn the corner. Taken down by the Tigers for a four and that'll be a turnover on downs. It's an interesting play call there because you have, you have to get those yards in order to pick up the first down.

But everyone's running routes with sticks. But it's not deep enough. It's not the original first down marker. Man, this is a sold out style student section tonight for Lewis and Clark down here in front of us on the field of haunting. Can you believe this for a Thursday?

I love it. I love seeing what I'm seeing right here. It shows that what these players are playing for is right here in the stands. These, all these, all these students came out to support and I'm amazed right now. I love it.

The construction outfits look great. They look awesome. They're cheering, they're loud. It's what we want to see tonight. Here come the Lewis and Clark Tigers taken over on the 38 yard line.

Turn and hand off to 12th gen silver and he turns the corner on the left side. 45, 46, 47, 48. He came really close to Damien Orthodontics. First down and he got it. Got to the 49.

That'll move the chains and that is the first first down of the night for either team. I love what I'm seeing from Jeannie here though. The main thing we said was to make sure that they control gents what they've done throughout the beginning of this game. It's been awesome. This first quarter has been great for Cheney.

That big run was the biggest run jets has had and they have to make sure that does not become a success. They say they try to get Jen Silburn 20 touches a night and he's already on pace. They send Cooper Jeffries out of the shotgun here, takes a high snap, that ball's on the ground. Did Cheney fall on it again? They said they did.

We are Waiting for the referee's ruling. LC Already fumbled it away once tonight. Looks like Lewis and Clark gets it back by the skin of their teeth. Deontay this. This Cheney.

This Cheney defensive line is getting to the backfield within the minute. The ball is snap, snap. It's absolutely insane. No, Cheetah got it back. A late ruling by the referees.

Two consecutive fumbles by Lewis and Clark on their first three drives of the night. And that's a great, that's a great call there because Cheney did recover the ball. The minute they hiked the ball, the Cheney's defensive line got through the. Got through the gap so quick they couldn't even handle the Jets. The ball was bumbled.

This is a wild first quarter. Six minutes to go in the first quarter night between Cheney and lc. Still no score, but Cheney is now starting, what, their third drive of the night. And they had it on. They.

They kicked it away. So they've just been doing this on turnovers and they've only made one actual fourth down stop on defense. Either way, here comes the snap turn and handoff to Jeremiah Hubbard. He's the faster flasher back of the Hubbard brothers. And he's also got his brother Alex in there taking handoffs.

He got back to the line of scrimmage and again of one, it'll be second and nine. Chini has had three possessions where they've had great field positioning and they got to make sure that they allow those, the great field positioning to turn over into points. They have to get points on one of these drives because they're. They have LC right where they need them. They.

They're on their heels right now. Listen to those LC Tigers on defense staring down a second and nine Cheney on the LC 47 yard line. They've got to get down to the 37 on the left side of the field. Chidi comes out with an interesting offensive set in their white uniforms. Three receivers split to the left, none to the right.

Valid steps up, he is sacked again. The LC defense got to him in on the tackle. First, I believe, was Charles Northern. His second tackle in the last two plays. Seemed like a little bit of a miscommunication there between balance in the O line.

They were going out for a screen. It looked like. You know what's tough to see here to Hante, as we've said this at the top of the game. Valance is a star quarterback, one of the best in the gsl. But he keeps feeling the need to step up in the pocket and then scramble because he knows he he won't even get three seconds from his line.

Yeah, he's. You can definitely see it right now. He's a little bit in there, a little timid. He's ready to get the ball out as quick as possible and he doesn't want to take any hits because he knows he's to going. Gonna take a lot tonight.

After the sack, third down and 13. The ball is exactly at midfield on the 50 yard line between the hashes. Two receivers split to each side for balance. Takes the snap of the knees, steps up. Now he's got some pressure.

And now the pocket collapses up to the 50 to 45. Turns the corner, the 40 pushed out of bounds by one of the cornerbacks, about three yards short. It'll be fourth and three. But again they're on the LC40. In high school, this is, I think, still go for territory.

I say go for it. You have nothing to lose. I mean, LC hasn't shown that they can flip the field and keep it. So why not just go ahead and go for it? If you turn over on downs, the better chance you'll get the ball back in a couple, couple of plays.

Think it might as well. It is fourth down and three for the Cheney Blackhawks. They've gone for it on a fourth down once tonight already in the first quarter. Did not work. They're about 10 yards short of the first down on that play.

This time it's fourth down on a short three. Two receivers split to the left, one of which is the league's leading receiver, Cordell lar. The 5 foot 7 junior is in the slots. Valent started in the gun, now he goes under center. It's going to be a quarterback sneak.

Gets to the 42, falls forward to the 41. I think you might have just picked up that first down. Yeah, I think he did too. That was a pretty interesting play call. We're all watching.

We're like, what's going on? It's a, it's a. Damn orthodontics. First down for the Blackhawks. Yeah, I mean, hey, if you, if you want to walk up and call a QB draw, go ahead and do it.

Get the first down. They had nothing to lose and they picked it up there. All right, so 404 to go here in the first quarter between Cheney and Lewis and Clark. Still no score here at Union Stadium, but Cheney all of a sudden has a little offensive momentum after converting on fourth down. So two receivers split to each side.

They've got Laura in the slot. Valance looks at the defense Two deep guys back for Lewis and Clark. The safeties in their orange uniforms hands it off to Hubbard out of the gun. Jeremiah Hubbard again, same play we saw in first down last series. Gain a one.

Yeah, I, I don't think that that play call is specifically getting them the yards that they need and it's kind of losing them out on a down. But if they can come back to some of those trickery plays or anything that they got up their sleeves and they could, they can make up for that loss of the play. 335 to go here in the first quarter. Clock is ticking. But this is what she wants, right?

They want the ball and they want to run the clock to keep LC from doing it to them. Exactly. And that's all they need to do because right now the control the game. They're controlling the momentum and the controlling turnovers. Camden Collins comes down to the near side as the X receiver.

They've got Curran Moore split to the far side. Here comes the snap. Valance rolls left, looks deep downfield. He was going to chuck it. Now he steps up, throws to the far right side.

He's got one on one coverage. He's got a man. It's caught. And he's got a first down. It was Josh Bingham back to back.

Demon orthodontics. First down for the Blackhawks. And here comes Cheney. Yeah, that play right there shows how, how poised and how comfortable balance can be or, and how great his pass can be when he has a little bit of time in the pocket. He's sliding forward, he's sliding to the left, he's sliding to the, to the right.

He's pump faking and he's completing passes for first downs. That's what you need from your quarterback. The ninth year head coach of Cheney. Bobby Bird on the far sideline looks pretty happy. He played his college ball at Washington State.

Well known guy around these parts. And here comes Cheney again. Their same spread. Look, it's been working the last couple of plays. Two or three receivers split to each side.

Jeremiah Hubbard in the backfield, 4, 3 defense for Lewis and Clark. And here comes Valance. He steps up, he's gonna run on his feet, inside the 20, inside the 15, dives toward the first down marker at the 11, goes head over heels. Taken down at the knees, I think he got about nine yards. He's one yard short.

The pregame show you asks who's going to lead these teams and I told you it's either going to be the quarterback, whoever leads them. Every day throughout practices. And workouts. And you're seeing it right now. Valance is doing everything and he's running, he's making plays, he's allowing whatever mistakes anyone makes not even to be apparent in the game.

And he got the name of Northern Ontics. First down. So here come the Blackhawks. He got down to between the 10 and 11 yard line on the left side of the field. The Cheney Blackhawks.

Finally the first team to put something together tonight on offense. It's not who we expected to do it, but for sure we're happy about it. I'm loving what I see from from balance right now. Same look, two receivers split each way. Jeremiah Hubbard in the backfield for the 52% passer who's got 700 yards right now.

Jacob Valance steps back, steps up, pocket collapses, no surprise, gets back to the line of scrimmage. Taken down from behind. That's a broken play. Should be no gain. Close to.

Yeah, Jacob Balance was a little bit slow to get up from that one. You can kind of see that the hits early on are kind of wearing on him. Yeah, and that's something that you don't want, especially when the quarterback's just starting to get rolling. He's just starting to get those passes off his hands. Just give him a little bit more time and he'll make some good plays.

The Tigers are sending their bowling ball, their little bowling ball of a senior D lineman, Bennett Hendrickson, back on the field. He's five foot five. He's small, but you know what's funny is he can sneak through the line that way. That's. We've had some guys do that in high school as well.

When you're small enough, go ahead, slide underneath them. It's hard for old lineman to bend low. One minute to go in the first quarter. No score between Elsie and Cheney, but the Blackhawks are threatening. Here comes Valance, dumps it off to the right side.

Pass was intended for Sam Torre, but he was in double coverage and I think they're lucky that wasn't tipped or intercepted. It's a awkward throw to try and make, especially being a high school quarterback. But I love the fact that they're now already targeting Sam Tory. That's the thing about Lewis and Clark.

They're a triple option team nowadays, but they have a pair of six foot three big thick receivers. Sam Tor has been a monster. He's averaging 31 yards of catch. That's huge. 31 yards of catch is absolutely unheard of.

Cheney 7 Lewis and Clark nothing. I don't think we thought this was happening tonight. The Hunte it's not what I thought at all and it's a bit interesting too.

This is a huge series right now for lc. They have to put points on the board. They're down seven zero. They just had a huge kickoff return from Gents Hilburn and everything is on their side. They're in great field position.

However, it's third down. They picked up not that many yards and actually none at all. It's third down and 10 and it's just they got to put points on the board here. They got to convert. And one thing we just realized during the conversation Commercial break We were wondering why LC had fumbled it twice already.

You you can now see it because it's picking up a little bit. It's been raining for about 15 minutes. It just not hard enough for you to see. Yeah, we were looking right past it. We're so locked into this game.

It's a good game, you know, and I don't look up to the sky, not one time. Look up and it's there's rain coming down that ball. Slippery. That happens in high school football. Easier in this situation for the turf than than grass for sure, but still not ideal.

And I'm like when I see 2, 3, 2, 3 yards every once in a while. Just picking up first downs. They're doing good. Lewis and Clark's coach, Coach Ireland says they always want to be the most physical team on the field. Do you think they're doing that tonight?

They did miss the the pat, but they come down and put some more points on the board without and stop this Cheney offense then they can they have a chance to run away with this one.

So that's the thing about him, Dehance. Not only does he haul it in, he leads the league in receptions, but he is so fast once he gets the ball, he's gone. Yeah, we see it there. I mean he, he had an angle on the entire LC defense that they just weren't able to get to him. He just ran out of the green there.

This really just. If Elsie wants to have a chance to really come back and make a statement in this game, those big Chun players are going to hurt them in the. So the Cheney pass game started to get rolling. They've been looking for Josh Bingham that's been hit and miss really. If they can get to Cord LR a couple times a series, they can do this.

I mean if you can get to a player who's going to pick up that many yards in one play, I will go to him as often as I possibly can. Yeah, same. All right, so three receiver split to the left here for Jacob Valance. One to the right, swings that off out of the backfield to Jeremiah Hubbard. He's trying to get the corner and he does 40 down to the 35.

Spun on the bounds by a couple of the linebackers. That's a gain of five or six and they're just chipping away at this LC defense right now. The LC defense isn't getting that same knockback that they were getting towards this offensive line that they were earlier. This off the line. Seems like they're holding up a little bit, even though balance is getting out of his hands a little bit sooner too.

That's the thing, is Valance on third down is getting time because Lewis and Clark is not rushing the plays where they're actually rushing. He's got to get rid of it fast. Definitely does. He's. He's letting that ball out, but I mean, he's completing the passes and picking up the yards they need and that's good.

Referees are going to call that again, a six. So second down and four here for Cheney. 7:15 to go in the first half. They lead by one. Here comes a good snap to Valance.

He's going to step up. He's going to try to run. Got to the 35, but the D line got to him fast. He'll allow a gain of one on the keeper. It's going to be third and a long three.

And the gents Hilburn show this might be a one on one matchup the rest of the way. Hey, if that's what it's going to take, we're seeing right now who's definitely leaning up towards that right now. It was both Cordell Lar and in fact that pass was intended for Camden Collins.

That's my mistake. Lar and Collins were set up on the left side of the field. He faked left to Lahr and went over the top. And because they've gone to Lahr so many times, you couldn't blame LC for maybe biting there. Yeah, I would have been too.

He just ready has two catches on this one series and he's gone for I don't know how many yards. I would definitely have to bid on that too. After the Incomplete pass, it's 2nd and 10. Referees are running out on the field. Do we have a.

It's very hard to catch a ball in the rain. They're throwing these quick screens, these little routes, these little bubble routes and they're completed passes and they're getting good yards. The referees are really giving Lewis and Clark on defense a favorable spot on that One we thought they got down to around the nine and said they say that they're going to end that play at the 11. So third down, a short six here for Cheney. Three receivers split to the left, one to the right for Jacob Valance.

Second quarters looked a lot different. I'm not sure we had seen Cheney at least they did not look this good in week one when I saw them. Yeah, Cheney's rolling. They look very, very put together. They look like a team.

I love what I'm seeing from them right now. And they're fast out there. So fast. They're literally so fast. They're flying around, running around.

It's like LC can't keep up with them right now. And this year they've been looking for a signature win. If they could beat them, Lewis and Clark, that would be their signature win possibly of the year. And I wouldn't even say that it would be a fluke win. Right now they're dominating all facets of the game.

The Only thing that LC has done better than is maybe on kickoff return. That's pretty much it. And play action passes and that's it. Yeah, that's pretty. They got two things that they're.

They're worried. They don't know what's going on. So squibb it. Let's see who gets it. And they're only gonna pick up a few yards.

So you're not here because you're listening on the radio tonight here on AM 700 or 105. But it is a fascinating sight on the field. It's a lot of orange for Lewis and Clark in the stands. It's all neon colors. So it's a very colorful Thursday night.

Here comes Lewis and Clark on offense. Pitch to Jen Silburn, far side, spun down by the ankles, past the 35. Got 3 or 4 yards play by play. They're gonna have to get the ball to Jensen, allow him to pick up some yards. You gotta get of rid rolling.

He's their star, he's their leader. He's the MVP of the league. He needs to get going. He's doing great on. On kickoff return, but on offense they need him more than anything here to come.

On second down and long, it's Jeffries again under the gun. Turns the corner. This time it was for Sheridan. Short gain, if any on the play. This is really the first time tonight where I'm looking at this game.

To hunting, going, wow, look at the Cheney D line. As I was saying earlier, this Cheney D line is getting back there. The minute the ball is hiked, they're getting back to the backfield and they're making tackles. They're holding on to their guys and they're making this, this LC offense look tired right now. And the clock runs three minutes exactly to go here in the first half.

Cheney, Tan, Lewis and Clark, six. In case you're just joining us wondering why the six Tigers just got on the board with a touchdown, but they botched the pat on a bad snap. So now they're back on the field. They've got it. Third down and seven to go.

They're back at their own 34 yard line. Jeffries drops back out of the option formation, steps up and he's got a lot of room to run. Dodges the linebacker still on his feet. The 40, the 45. Man, he got the name of Orthodontics.

First down. What a run by the junior quarterback, Cooper Jeffries. Jeffries is getting it done on the, on the ground today. Yep, we're seeing him run and this is not something I was really expecting him to do because I didn't see too much of this when they played against Bears. It's awesome.

It's great. I love how comfortable he looks passing. Considering again, this is his second year ever of tackle football. He's very comfortable in the pocket and that's something that you don't really see from quarterbacks, especially at the high school level. He's really a baseball star for lc from what I'm told.

A pitcher, shortstop, they just do whatever because they know he's a star. Drops back. Here comes a blindside hit. No, he got out of it. He steps up, rolls to the far side, still on his feet, and he cannot get away from the blindside hit for the second time.

Amazing. He got away the first time. Miles Hoover on the sack. Being such a young player, his QBIQ was very, very nice. He was able to step up into the pocket there, allow two defenders to run clear into each other and then try to pick up some more yards before eventually the D line actually got there.

After the sack, there was a gain, a loss of what, five yards on the play. Second down and 15 now for Lewis and Clark and there's not a lot of time. 1 minute, 40 seconds to go in the first half. The clock is running and they're an option team. They've got to take a shot here.

They have to, they have to make all the attention Go to go to Jensen, one of their premier players, and take a shot downfield. Jeffries out of the gun. Two receivers split each way. Looks like a man jumped for Cheney. They won't call it.

Jeffries rolls out left. He. He's looking downfield. And he is sacked for the second straight play. Who got to him first for Cheney, it's Micah Ragazza.

What a game he's had. Now two sacks and a touchdown catch. And that's just huge credit to the Cheney defense. They're playing outstanding. They're controlling jets like their keys where they're doing everything they need to do.

They're getting knocked back on the O lineman. They're getting to the backfield. Pressure in the qb. It's outstanding. Right now, this Cheney defense is unstoppable.

And the clock will continue to run. Now, inside a minute, 55, 54, 53. The clock is ticking. Lewis and Clark, though, really in a tough spot. Third down and 19 to go.

They've got to get it across midfield and they want another shot here. They've got to get it down to the Cheney 41 on the other side of the 50. Jeffries out of the gun. Third down and a long way to go. They'll run the option to the left.

Jan Silburn 45 to the 50. Picked up about 15 yards on the play. Pretty good, but Cheney was playing back. They saw stop them five yards short. It's going to be fourth down with 25 seconds to go in the half.

And they could run this out if they wanted to. Maybe do a Hail Mary. Yeah, I'd say just go ahead and run it out. Run it out. They're not really getting the protection they need down low right now.

Just go back to the locker room, go ahead and get it figured out and come back in the second half and do what you got to do. Fourth down in six yards to go for Lewis and Clark. Five, four on the clock. Three, two. And they will run the play.

3 FM. Interesting game and not the way we saw it going at behalf the Cheney Blackhawks 10 and the Lewis and Clark Tigers 6. As we welcome you back to our broadcast tonight, I'm Greg Talbot joined by former Eastern standout defensive player to Hante Hayes. Deontay 106 Genie this is not what we thought. Yeah, this is not at all what I thought was going to happen.

But the keys that we made prior to the game or the reason why we make them is for those teams to attack those keys and come out and come out on top and that's Zachary what this Cheney offense and defense is doing right now. So in case you at home are in the car just now tuning in, let's get you caught up on how this happened. We saw a bunch of fumbles and a bunch of sloppy play early on, but the first team to score was the Cheney Blackhawks. Jacob Valance to Micah ragasa about a 10 yard touchdown pass out of the backfield made it seven nothing. That was the score.

At the end of one in the second quarter, Lewis and Clark finally got on the board with about eight minutes till halftime. Cooper Jeffries a quarterback sneaky touchdown run off play action. A beautiful play to get them on the board but they did miss the PAT so 7 to 6. However, a few minutes later on their next drive, Cheetah got down the field a long drive and they put a field goal in to make it 10 to 6. Again, not the kind of halftime summary we thought we would be giving.

Brought to you tonight at halftime by the Swinging doors and brothers flooring. But boy to Hante, I love the the way the Cheney offense just came out and surprised us. Oh yeah, Cheney offense came out the first series. They were a little bit slow, a little bit timid. They weren't quite sure.

However, when they came back on the next drive, Jugga Balance took complete control over their offense. He was able to make good plays, great passes and run also on his feet a little bit and that helped them out and allowed them to go down and put points on the board. Yeah, the Che Blackhawks have found their equation on offense. Get Valance a couple seconds, just let him throw to Cordell Lar or Camden Collins and that just works and that that's what they're going to have to do. And I mean even still on that last drive where they where they weren't able to put a touchdown on the board but they still were able to put up three which is points and that allowed their lead to extend the board.

Well, the Lewis and Clark cheerleaders are on the field doing their dance routine right now in a huge student section for Lewis and Clark. You're going to hear them cheering them on. So nice to have fans back. It feels like it's the medicine. We've been needing to have the people back in the stands.

Deontay, that's true and it's honestly feeling the team. You could say LC Lou LC is fighting. They're trying to come back into this one but Cheney is just holding them down. They're doing a great job right now and they're trying to come back for these fans and everyone else watching. And those Road Warrior Blackhawks lead at halftime 10 to 6 on top of Lewis and Clark.

Nice to see LC out here in such force tonight even though their team is down 10 to 6. Well, we talked about this in the pregame show, but in case you weren't with us, we have finally gotten to that time of the year to Hante where we have some really good games in the area. You did me to Gonzaga Prep on the radio last week. G Prep pulled it out late 2821. But tell us about that one.

For those of us who were at other games, it was an outstanding game overall. G Prep came they they weren't up playing their triple option the way they they needed to. At first they were a little slow intimidate throughout the first the first half me took great advantage of that. They were completing passes, running down the field. They looked poison great throughout the duration of the game, creating good turnovers.

It was just that at halftime is when things kind of flipped and G Prep went back to the OG prep and they looked stellar and you really, if you're me, you just got to know against a team like that, you cannot go down two touchdowns. Against an option team, the clock just does not work. No, that you really can't. And I mean me fought all the way to the last second of that game. They were coming back.

They had a huge comeback on the way. An interception that just stunned it and made it to where G Prep was able to come into victory victory formation and end the game. So that was a great game last week. Let's talk about the great ones we have coming up tomorrow night. And we have another couple good ones again for just the last week, week of September.

Dehanta, you are over on SWX tomorrow night. What's your game? I will be there on SWX tomorrow at the East Valley versus West Valley rivalry game. And I'm excited for that. Have you been to that rivalry game before?

I have not. So a lot of these teams that I go to with you guys are like my first timers, except for just a few. And that's why it's so I get so excited to go watch them because you guys have some players here in Spokane. Yeah, East Valley, West Valley is a fun one. The big one that everyone is watching elsewhere tomorrow night.

Especially after how good they looked against G Prep last week. Mead, Central Valley. As far as I'm concerned, Deontay that might be the game that might decide who's number two in the GSL behind G Prep at the end of the year. I think me definitely what is hungry to come away with a win last week they were so close and the team how far they've came from last year to this year. I'm just excited to see what they do tomorrow.

And I wouldn't be surprised, they do come away with the win. So Mead CV is at Central Valley. You got to imagine that's a going to be another packed stadium. That's going to be a fun one. Make sure to watch the highlights of that game on a cage.

Q and SWX tomorrow night. Other games in the area, Reach line at Gonzaga Prep. That one might get ugly. Post Falls at Mount Spokane. That's a fun game.

Post Falls has been good in recent years. Over there on the other side of the border. Ferris at U High. Gotta think the UHI is the favorite in that one. North Central at Clarkston and then Roger Shadle.

I know that's not a game that everyone's going to be having their eyes on, but I love those inner city Spokane rivalries. Yeah, those inner city rivalries are always the best. You get to have two huge matchups. All the fans come out, the students come out and there's no other atmosphere. You want to play and that's exactly what you're looking forward to.

You get the cheerleaders to come, they're doing their great shows during the, during the game halftime they get to go like this is what we play for. We play for that. And this is just the beginning of a great weekend of sports. Speaking of that in terms of eastern Washington, but specifically on this radio station, really fun one coming up for Paul and Larry. They hit the road with the Eastern Washington Eagles.

Dante, correct me if I'm wrong, Sunday is at Florida. Correct, it is at Florida. And the players that over there eastern are, they're hungry. They're so ready. They last week was a nail biter all the way to the very end.

They ended up losing off a fumble that allowed Montana State to come down, score touchdown and the game was over. After leading them by four. They're so hungry for this game on Sunday. They're very excited. They've been studying film.

I talked about the players nearly every day and I just can't wait to see what they do. I watch every game. That was a brutal way to lose to Montana State at home last week. What was the vibe coming off that game? Oh, I mean it for, for a player like me, I beat Montana State.

We were. I never lost a game to Montana State and we know that that is always like it's not a rival but it is. They have good players though. It is, it is, it is. But Montana's are really really big rival.

But Montana State is up there. We know a lot of their players. So it's always coming down to that specific game that's weirdly those games against Montana, Montana State, especially considering how the um game went last year, those have become really high profile.

They are. And those are the games that we must win. And so losing on this past Saturday is something that I know is very salty in their mouths right now. And Eastern's got a chance. I mean can think about how many big time teams have lost the last couple of weeks in college football.

The big boys are going down. Eastern's got a shot. Oh yeah, we do. Is not our first time that we've beat beaten a big, big time team. It wouldn't be football's football.

Football is football. It's a game of mystery. You never know what can happen. And the underdogs definitely can win games again. That is coming up Sunday.

Cheney 10, Lewis and Clark 6. Really surprising. Cheney looked really good in the first half. Now let's circle back to our color commentator and former Eastern Washington football defensive star to Hante Hayes. I love your pregame show keys to the game.

I'm interested to know who has done that and how that's impacted the game. So Cheney's up 10 6. Let's start with Cheney. What were your, what were your keys for them and how'd they do? Of course.

So my, my keys basically for them coming into the game was to feed Cordell Lara. He was leading the league with 25 perceptions and tonight they have done just that. They've been feeding him. He's getting huge chunk yards that they needed. He's allowing them to put points on the board.

He has not scored yet. However, he's put them in great field position to be able to score. Give Jacob Valance time in the pocket was the second one. I wouldn't say that they've done it too much. They haven't given him that much time.

However, the play calling that the coaches have drafted up has allowed him to get the passes out quick and in a hurry and they're getting chunk yardage off that as well. The last thing was for the defense, the Keon gents, they've done just that. Gents has not had really, really big plays or chunk yardage plays that he normally has throughout consistent weeks. I think he has one or two huge or 12 yard runs and that's pretty much it for the, for the series. Right?

This is not looks like the Gent Hilburn show the way it so often does. Yeah. Only kickoff return is the only time we've seen spurts of that. All right, so speaking of Lewis and Clark, they're down 10 to 6. I'm interested to know what were your keys for LC and how they perform.

So my keys are very drafted around. Chance get gents going early and allowing the attention from gents to open up deep shots downfield. Those things haven't been able to happen because this Cheney defense is so aggressive. They're so on on LC's offense and it has not been able to been able to be something that's possible. The last thing was to pressure Jacob Balance while he was in the pocket as QB or whatever.

I would say LC has done a great job of that. They're getting back there pretty good. They're. They're doing a good job of pressuring him. However, he's still able to complete passes they got to get their hands on the ball a little more.

You got to put your hands up, make sure he's not able to get those passes completed. What do you think Lewis and Clark can do in the second half to get gents Hilburn going? Is it a schematic thing at halftime? Is it trying to change up your offensive line? How do you do that?

They got to just stop self sabotaging themselves. I believe because LC comes out the LC team that they are and that they believe they are, they'll be good. The first play of the game, the kickoff, they got a penalty that took back a 40 yard return. They had two fumbles already. They're just doing little things like that.

That's allowing them to not be able to take advantage of this game and get forward and get ahead of this Cheney offensive. Is there a chance they can win this game if Jen Silburn doesn't go off in the second half? Despite the mess ups that LC has had or the turnovers and everything, it's only a four point game. They're still in this game for sure. Gents can even get one touchdown.

They're in the lead already. That's 13 to 10 given that they get the extra point. I think you're right about that. Cheney. Do they need to make any adjustments for half number two?

Cheating just has to come up aggressive and stay the way they were. They have to be poised. They have to make sure that they don't allow the four point lead to go to their heads. Come out the same way they did last in the beginning of the game, come out hard, aggressive, allow balance to be able to lead this team to victory. All right, so with a couple minutes here until we start the second half, it is Cheney 10, Lewis and Clark 6.

Deontay, your first half prediction was LC slightly favored as we head into the final 24 minutes. Where are we at now? I'm just gonna go ahead and see, stick with that. I don't feel like, I mean I kind of see what, what, what. The score is now 10 6.

I can, you know, anyone could say I'm going to go ahead and go for the winning team, but I'm gonna still stick with lc. LC is showing spurts of the team that I believe that they are and if they just go ahead and fix a little bit of their mistakes, they'll be good to go. And the quarterback Cooper Jeffries has looked really, really good tonight. Cooper Jeffries is doing it with on, on the ground for sure. He's able to run and pick up good yards.

He's definitely has more rushing yards than than his running backs right now, which is impressive, especially because that's not something I was expecting to see from tonight. Again, your scoring recap tonight on the first half. Jacob Valance to Micah Ragasa was the touchdown to put Cheney on the board. LC responded in the second quarter. Cooper Jeffries quarterback run on the play action turned it into 7 6.

They missed the PAT. She didn't kick the field goal before halftime. 10 to 6 is our score at the break and the teams are out on the field and we will take one more break here on the halftime show. I'm Greg Talbot, he's Dehante Hayes and the Cheney Blackhawks are on top of the Lewis and Clark Tigers 10 to 6. Dehante, in case people are just tuning in for the second half, your one sentence summary what has happened tonight? Tonight, genius show that they're able to go ahead and paddle against some of the best teams in the league straight up easy enough.

And they have done that because really a couple of things. One, their quarterback, Jacob Valance, he's been getting the ball out fast, so the fact that he's not getting a lot of protection has not been an issue. Really. He's gotten to his main receiver Cordell Are, who's now got almost 30 catches through almost five games. He's been amazing.

And their defensive line has been getting pressure on a bigger LC frontline. Yeah, you're seeing Cheney go ahead and just take care of business on all facets of the game. They're making sure that everything that is a negative on their side is a positive tonight and that's what you want to see from your football team. It is Cheney 10, Lewis and Clark 6. We are ready for the second half of football as Josh Bingham is back to receive.

High kick bounces over a man's head and here comes the Cheney return from the goal line instead. 15 toward the 20, spun down around the 19 between the hashes. Not a great return for cheney. So about 80 yards to go here, but this offense was so good, especially after the first opening drives, that they could do this too. I'm not surprised at all if they can come out here and pick up this 80 yard, this 80 yard touchdown considering all they have to do is make sure Jacob Valance has time in the pocket and that Cordell has the ball in his hands.

Jacob Valance, one of the impressive quarterbacks in the Spokane area. He's got offers, did some really good D. Three schools, including Puget Sound, Lewis and Clark down in Portland and some others, comes out with two receivers split to each side on first down and 10 from the 20 turns and hands off to Jeremiah Hubbard.

He almost hit the corner and said he was dragged down by the legs. Gain a two. That's kind of consistent with what we've seen from that play call there. They, they ran it a few times throughout the first half and it has not worked for them at all well. And the problem is he's not even getting to the second level of linebackers.

That's the D line who was just. They just get his arm with one arm around him. Which is great though, because your D line isn't doing the B or your defense isn't doing the best tonight. However, your D line's still not giving up the run. And they've been getting pressure on Valance, really.

For Lewis and Clark, the issue has been a couple of the linebackers and the over the top play. The line's been good. Second and eight turn in the same play, except to the right. This time it's Jeremiah Hubbard and again he's met at the line of scrimmage. LCD line looks really good.

And Valance drops back, throws deep down the left side into coverage. Pass intended for Camden Collins. It was off his hands, but also a good breakup.

It'll be fourth down and long. It's a big time breakup there by Turi. Looked great there. That's the second time that he's had that, that he's had a really, really nice defensive play on a wide Receiver that could potentially make that grab. That is the third time they have tried to go deep, including an attempted touchdown pass to the sophomore Camden Collins.

I'll tell you, he looks like more than a sophomore. He looks like a senior out there. He does. And I understand why they're throwing up those 50, 50 balls to him. And you have linebackers that are coming up and trying to knock guys out.

The ball is directly given to him. He's able to make whatever plays he wants to with it. He's not selfish so he's willing to give it to his teammates. He's a perfect person to put in there. And he ran, he read off his blocker and was able to pick up huge yardage right there for a touchdown that very well may end up being our play of the night in the postgame show.

It could have been. It definitely was a non contact injury because he was the last defender there in order to make that play. So the question is now will Lewis and Clark go for two or will they send out their PAT unit? They're just going to send out their kick unit to make it 13, 10. Can't blame them which is the smartest thing to do here.

You don't want to go for it and give yourself or not you want, you don't want to go for two and not get it and now you're giving yourself opportunity to be down if they kick a field goal. So Elsie will send out Wilson Hash to kick it away. It's another bad snap. It rolls Back to the 30. Down goes Hash.

The score is 12 to 10. I'm surprised they didn't call a penalty there. Was he just considered a quarterback in that aspect, the way he was able to forward, laterally lateral that pass. I would think that would be an illegal pass. Yeah, that's what I was thinking.

Well, unless that was the holder. Yeah, that was very interesting there. But see, that's. This is a bit of an interesting position they're in now because now they're only up by two. And the way Cheney is able to move the ball, once they get the ball to their number one wide receiver, they can get an easy field goal up.

Well, this is the first time tonight that Lewis and Clark has taken the lead. Our score is 12 to 10, not 13. 12 and a Hanse. We have seen Gina kick field goals. We have seen Gina kick field goals and make field goals as well, even pats.

So, I mean, this is a. This is a big time. It's a big time spot that. That Jeannie's in. If Lewis and Clark had hit their pats tonight, it would be 14 to 10 and this would be a very different game.

Two possession game changes the whole dynamic of this game. So Cordell are back to receive for Cheney on the left side of the field. Lewis and Clark in their orange uniforms kicking it right to left across your radio dial. 307 to go in the third quarter. And this ball is in the air.

Oh, this is exactly the first finish that I want to see on this Thursday night. I have nothing else going on. I'm here watching this game. I want to see these teams go ahead and go at it and battle and make the best team come out on top. And a great cl.

You're not getting good plays or you're not picking up the yards. You need being able to trust in your quarterback to run the ball. He's picking up great yards every time he's running the ball.

All right, he got to the 41. It's going to be what about a long three? Second down and a long three here for the Cheney Blackhawks. Three receivers to the near side. Cordell Lar leads the league and catches.

He came really close to a first down. If he didn't get it, I would love to see when he catches this ball not to be scared of contact, but just run hard.

He's too busy thinking about the contact that potentially might be. Just run fast, you pick up the first down, you got a great. There's nobody near you that's gonna hurt you go ahead and run that ball and get the first down. The sophomore Camden Collins with the Damon Orthodontics first down. Man, he is playing so much better than 15 years old, huh?

This LC defense. This shiny offense is just rolling right now though. 130 to go here in the third quarter. Lewis and Clark enjoying their first lead of the night, 12 to 10 as we approach the end of the third quarter. But the way this Cheney offense is moving, that lead might not last long.

Just get any piece of cloth that they can possibly get. We have a stoppage on the field, but I don't think it would have been a timeout called. I'm not sure what the referees are working on here. They should have stopped it at 58 and that is what they will reset it to. So 58 seconds to go here in the third quarter.

This has been a slower third quarter than we were expecting, but boy are we setting ourselves up for a great climax tonight here between Lewis and Clark and Cheney. Tigers lead 12 to 10. But Cheney's driving on offense. Second down in a short seven for for them. Here comes Valens, takes the snap at the letters, steps up.

It looks like he's gonna try to throw deep. No one said he's gonna run it. Got to the 40, falls forward, makes a man, miss 35, got a gain of about five. It's going to be third down and one or third down and two and there are what, 28 seconds on the game clock. Play clocks back at 35.

That might take us down to the end of the third. I'm liking what I'm seeing from Jacob Vallis when he runs the ball. They put a key QB spy on him. That's huge. And everything was leaning in Cheney to be able to go out. No Cheney. That is a tough one. So here comes Lewis and Clark out for a 1st and 10.

Flags are flying everywhere. It's Jen Silver out of the Wildcat, but we. We saw those flags fly at the start of the play. It usually happens when you win a triple option offense, and that's going to be on Lewis and Clark.

I think they might have just been so excited to get back on the field after that play. Play. They kind of jumped. Yeah. Which, I mean, I would be excited, too.

That's their first turnover of the night. The Momentum changed this. LC's fans and crowd was going crazy when they got that. Yeah. Lewis and Clark had a couple of fumbles just in the first quarter.

Exactly. And that's. That's a huge momentum shifter. You're up two. You can go down, put some more points on the board.

You have gents playing your wildcat, your star, your stud. Let's go ahead and put supports on the board. So Jen Silburn, the star running back and wide receiver, is now playing quarterback for LC out of the option. And he is sacked right away as he tried to get around the corner by Alex Hubbard. What a tackle by him.

This. How quickly this Cheney defense line is getting to the backfield almost on every possession is quite insane. It's as if they're lining up on the opposite side of the ball. You know who those also was. So the reason they're doing that is because that was Hubbard and Singeo sharing credit on the sack.

Singeos 5:9, Hubbard's 5:8. They're just small enough to sneak by him. Small enough to sneak by him and go right into their arms. So a loss of one on the play. It's going to be second down and 16 for Lewis and Clark.

Handoff up the middle goes to Haugen. He powers forward, but he only gets to the 48 or so. So it's still going to be third down and 12 or third down and 13 with 9:45 to go in the game. Lewis and Clark still leading 12:10. But this is a big third long for them.

The thing that makes this such a hard possession for them is because they're not used to running under center. They haven't been running under center that much with when they have jets playing that running back because they know they want to give to jets all almost every single time. However, this defensive line is getting there too fast. The minute they hike the ball, he's already at the ball carrier. 920 to go in the game.

Lewis and Clark has it. Third down and 12 at midfield. They're going to run the option. Hilbert on his feet. He'll keep it.

He got up to around the 45. He's taken down by the ankles. He's five yards short. Fourth and five from the 45. This could be.

Go for it, Tara. Victory. Nope. They're going to send out their. Well, this might not be a kicking unit.

Let's see. And now they send out the punt unit. They will punt. What would you do there down. You're.

You're up to five yards to go. Fourth quarter, nine minutes left, eight minutes 45 actually. What would you do? Would you rather punt it or would you rather go for it there? You tell me.

You're the D1 football player. I would say I don't want to have to give Cheney good field position because they're moving the ball so well. Pin them back deep. You have a good punter who's been doing good. So Wilson Ash kicks it away waiting to receive it as Bingham, he has a fair catch, waves it off around just shy of the 15.

So another long field to go. 85 yards for cheating. Exactly. And based off the success they had last possession, I would say this is a good. This could be a good thing for their defense if their defense holds up.

Listen to that LC band. This is exactly what the defense is, is asking for this support. So Cheney's got a long way to go about. They are going to say they waved that ball dead at the 13 yard line. Long way to go for the Cheney Blackhawks.

Gain of about 4 yards as he went to the right hash. I'll consider a pretty good run for sure. Picking up 4 yards per carry will be absolutely insane. In this, in this league. Four yards right there is good.

They're moving the ball, they're moving it forward. Cheney has to put points on the board here. I would say we have not seen the last touchdown of this game. Thoughts? I agree.

I I 100 agree. These two teams are battling. One of them has to to put some more points on the board. All right, second down and six after the gain of four, they go up the middle again to Hubbard. This time it cuts to the near side.

Spun down around the 22 yard line a yard or two short of the first down. This will be a big third and short for the LC defense based off what they've done in the past throughout this game. Valance surveys the defense. Here comes the snap. And we've got whistles down, whistles and flags. What do the referees have to say? Encroachment on the defense.

Number one. Encroachment on the MVP for Lewis and K Clark, Jens Hilburn. That allows Cheney to get across midfield. This is such a critical, critical time within the game. That we just can't give up three yards like that.

Especially when this Jacob Valance ran offense is just moving down the field so easily. 4:30 to go in this game. Lewis and Clark 12, Cheney 10. But Cheney's offense is clicking. They are moving and they are now in Lewis and Clark territory.

Just a field goal for them would win the game. They've got four and a half minutes to try and score again. Three receivers to the near side for balance. She drops back. He's got a lot of time.

He's looking downfield. He had Josh Bingham wide open and said he comes in the near side, he dumps it off to what his his tight end Gabe Bradley. He's got a gain of 2 or 3 yards. If he had just been looking down field to Hant A, he had Josh Bingham on a post route, that would have been a touchdown. Yeah, it was a wide, it was wide open.

There was no one, he was waving his hands. He needed the pass there but I mean at the end in order to play it safe. Throw it, throw a little check down pass like that, pick up nearly the first down. That's a tough one. Very tough.

They needed those points right there. It was a complete pass. Either way, it's second down and one now for Cheney there at the Lewis and Clark 44 yard line. Got to get down to the 43 to keep the drive moving. Turns and hands off to Jeremiah Hubbard.

He's got a big first down past the 40, 35, 30. What a run instead. No, that was Micah Ragasa again. He got down to the 30. Regassa out of nowhere had not run the ball since the first quarter.

Now they bring him back for a run of 20 yards. But you can see why he's running the ball so good, picking up good yards. We have a timeout on the field. We will take it with them 12 to 10. Our score.

What a game by him. A couple of amazing tackles. I think a sack and a touchdown and that's just how you step up as a player. That's what I'm saying. Like throughout the duration of this game we've seen players step up and do things that they that we've never seen before.

We're seeing QBs run, we're seeing QBs run people over. We're seeing guys step up and make plays first on the first down. This is a great drive right here by Cheney. Lewis and Clark 12, Cheney 10. But Cheney is now down to the Lewis Clark what, 17 yard line with 2:30 to go.

They only need a field goal to win this game. Here comes a spread formation for Valance. Hands off up the middle. It's Ragasa and this time the LC defense finally there to stop him. Maybe a gain of one it's an all out blitz there.

They made sure that he wasn't able to pick up any yards on that one. This LC band, the student section, the cheerleaders, they have been loud for a Thursday night home coming that is not at their normal stadium. They've had the spirit, but can their defense make a stop? Two minutes to go. The clock is running.

I think CH's got to put a little more tempo on this here. They're taking a lot of time. They are taking a lot of time but I, I think they're doing it that way when if Elsie gets the ball back, they're not going to have any time to do anything. Elsie likes to take their time sometimes. Three receivers split to the far side for Valance.

Dumps it off to Cordell Lar. We love this play for them. He spins off a man down inside the 15. Taken out by the ankles. Got down to the 11 or the 12.

This is going to be a tight what, third down and third down and maybe a long five. Yeah, they are running the clock down pretty, pretty, pretty low. But I think the main reason why they're doing this because LC doesn't have any timeouts. They only have two left, which allows them that if Chini doesn't get a get the first down here, they can put kicky and Elsie won't really have much time to put any more points on the board. The clock is running 113, 112, 111, 110.

Third down and a long five for Jacob Valance and Cheney. Three receivers to his left. Here's the snap. He's going to roll left. He's looking downfield.

He's going to step up and run. He's down inside the 10 yard line. Got down to the seven or the eight. That's right around the sticks. Did he get the name of orthodontics?

First down. Either way, the clock is now at 55 seconds. Did he get it? I think we might have a timeout on the field actually. And we do Lewis and Clark.

No, Cheney. Cheney will take the timeout. It looks like he didn't get it. It's going to be fourth down and 1/4 down in inches. Unbelievable.

Yeah, that was a big time run there that he definitely wanted that first down. He was scrambling. He really wanted to get a pass downfield. However, it was very smart to do what he did because he made sure he cut back in and put the ball in a good spot for his kicker. All right, the teams are back on the field.

After the timeout they brought the chains out rather the sticks. They're gonna call it fourth and one. Fourth down and one. But. But not.

But not a close fourth and one. I would love to see them kick it here. 55 seconds and Cheney will send out Josh Bingham. They're gonna kick it. The ball's on the 10.

They are down 12 to 10. A field goal here for Cheney would put them in lead and probably win them the game. It's from the left hash mark. Balls on the 10. This is a 26 yard kick for the senior right footed kicker, Jacob Valance.

Good snap. Ball is down. It's blocked by Lewis and Clark for the second consecutive drive. Cheney gets down inside the Lewis and Clark red zone. And the Tigers come up big once on defense and now once on special teams.

They blocked the Josh Bingham kick. Lewis and Clark is going to hold on to win this game 12 to 10. What a finish, huh? This is exactly what we want. This is like what we wanted to see on this Thursday night.

Am I right? And I told you I could have easily went and switched to cheating, but what did I do? I stuck with lc. I knew that they were going to be able to come out and do a great, great job here. However, Cheney does have three timeouts left.

49 seconds. They could utilize those and make it to where they get the ball back. You gotta feel just awful for Che to get down there into the red zone twice and kind of feel like they blew it. Yeah, they did a little bit there. They shot themselves in the foot as you would say.

So Lewis and Clark is going to come out with an actual offense here because Cheney has timeouts to use. Handoff up the middle. Jen silburn past the 25 yard line, got to the 26, gain of six yards. And Cheney will take that first timeout. 43 seconds.

Yeah, we see a little bit of the original gents right there running through players and stuff. I love the energy and attitude that he plays with. There's 49, there's 43 seconds left in this game. He's still running as if the game just started. That's the attitude and poise that you need from a player.

Man, oh man. Lewis and Clark will have held on to win by. By the skin of the skin of their teeth, man. What it was a fight for. Sure.

Cheney definitely dominated throughout this game. But in the end it was just the second half that they didn't put any points on the board that that really hurt them. Lewis and Clark bend. Don't break. That's pretty much what it has to be.

Their halftime adjustments were great. They came out the firing. They're looking good. What halftime adjustments did you see from them? I can just see that they're actually moving the ball up and down the field.

They created turnovers. Their momentum was really down from the crowd, too. And they allowed that to. They allowed the switch. They got the interception, switched it.

The bands going, the crowds loud again. Now it feels like a game where they're at home again. All right, so 43 seconds after the timeout, Lewis and Clark has it after the great run by Hilburn. Second down and three. A first down here from Lewis and Clark would win the game because Chena does not have enough timeouts.

So Cheney stacks the box on defense. Lewinson, Clark, jumbo formation and offense to run the option handoff up the middle. It is Jen Silburn falls forward 32. He's got it. The Tigers are going to win.

That's it. I don't even think they know it yet. They'll move the sticks. And there it is. David Orthodontics.

First down wins it for the Tigers. What an outstanding game from both sides. This was a great game, Just phenomenal. What a great atmosphere for a freaking Thursday night. The hanse.

Exactly. And what we talked about earlier was that Cheney came out here and their. Their record doesn't really show how good of a team they are. They played a stellar game today. They really did.

They just needed to come out the second half a little bit more aggressive and fiery the way they did the first. No doubt about it. And weirdly, Cheney is going to go over there and take the last time out. So it. It is their prerogative to do so.

And it's awesome to be able to say that because before you know, Spokane wasn't too known for having great players or players in general like that. When you think of football and now you're going to games and you're like he's the MVP, he's the star. He's leading a reception with 25. He's averaging a 52 completion percentage. Those are crazy stats.

In recent years, a lot of the time Spokane has really been a basketball town when it comes to high school sports. But football has given them a run for their money these years, huh? And, and that it's a great sport to have your money ran from first. And for losing Clark, Cooper Jeffries the quarterback takes an E and is cheating going to take a timeout or they don't start cheating is going to take the last time out on, on the qb Neil. Again, it's their prerogative to do so.

But either way the final score will be at Lewis and Clark 1012 Lewis and Clark 12 Cheney 10. Deontay. We said about halftime during our broadcast tonight, if Cheney won this game, that would put a shock into the gsl. So maybe not a shock to the gsl, but I think people who are here tonight amazingly impressed by Cheney. Oh yeah, for sure.

I mean all over the board. Cheney did great. Their defense was outstanding tonight. Their defensive line was even better. Their offense was good.

I mean you really, like I said, you really can't ask for too much more from your team. And they did a great job tonight. It's just that they just missed the couple tackles on that one play and gents made him pay. Boy, did he. So Cooper Jeffries comes out with losing Clark in their orange uniforms into their victory formation.

She needs out of timeouts. Goes under center, looks back at gents Hilbert and looks like he just smiled at him. Takes the snap down to a knee and that's it. They had Jacob Valance who played an insane game. Cordell. Cordell played insane too. He had great receptions, great catches, picked up good, good yardage for them. Didn't get any touchdowns tonight.

But he did what he needed to do tonight to put his team in positions to put points on the board. It was just not too much. Let's give you your scoring recap tonight. In the first quarter, Cheney surprised everyone got on the board first. Jacob Valance to Micah Ragasa for a touchdown pass to put him up.
